At Square-Enix’s fiscal meeting they candidly mentioned the White Engine development is moving at a sluggish pace. However, they are not abandoning creating their in house engine. Since the engine is the backbone for Final Fantasy XIII it seems likely that the Playstation 3 game will be further delayed. Square-Enix did not mention a date for Final Fantasy XIII (maybe now 2009? edit: this date is just me speculating) or Dragon Quest IX, which was originally slated to come out this year.
It’s not all gloom for Square-Enix. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII sold quite well in Japan with 710,000 copies in the market. Itadaki Street DS was a hit with 410,000 copies sold, just to put that in perspective It’s a Wonderful World only sold 180,000 units.

Zucht, multiplayer in uncharted.
quote:Everyone bitches about FPS games, but the fact is that FPS games are so popular cause its so easy to put semi-unlimited replayability in the game by re-doing some singleplayer maps, taking all the other content/textures from the SP and making a multiplayer.
Its beyond retarted that games like uncharted are being compared to say like Gears of Wars or Halo and lose cause the end value of the latter 2 are better then a singleplayer-only platformer. Its even more beyond me to downgrade a game like Uncharted merely for not having multiplayer. Its facts like these that are the reason we have so many shitty FPS games out there cause its just so easy to do and people buy them.
But I can understand why developers make FPS games or at least games with enough replayability just because they wont be labelled as "a good rental". It sickens me that CoD4 can getaway with a 5hour SinglePlayer story and just throw up a solid online system with some redone SP maps and be like the ultimate revival of the genre whenn its just another FPS. Dont get me started on Halo.
Dont get me wrong. I love both, they'r decent fun shooters and in the end thats the important part about putting in 60$, or in our case 100$ (EUR $_$) but its horrible for the industry if platformers like Uncharted/Ratchet or whatever die out or get less attention just cause they dont provide 30+ hours of "new" content.
In my opinion, games should be differently graded by genre. Naughty Dog did all they could to put in enough replayability in the game to last a long time. It provides a solid 8~10hr first-run experience with a better story and more compelling characters then most Hollywood movies. Every review I see people praise it for pretty much everything and only mention the overall downside of being too lineair and too short. And yet thats why the game gets like a full point deducted if you know how to count trace it back.
What im trying to say is that reviewers do have a major influince on how certain titles are sold and lame comparisons or bashing something thats missing which would be impossible to implement is just cutting on the respect the developers should be getting.
Keep in mind I took Uncharted here as an example, but Im sure it sticks for every other game from a similar/same genre on another platform. Im not saying GT or any other review site is biased or w/e. Im saying is that genres are dying out and instead we'r treated with one FPS after another and I just really hate that.
And a final shoutout to those that are prolly gonna rent it for a week and then ditch it. Give credit where credit is due, dont drown in the insane amount of titles we have this season. Uncharted is in my book still one of the greatest games I have played and people should respect that and the developers for their work by putting down money so you can put it in your collection. Take some time to enjoy all it has to offer and dont skip or ignore the collectables and trophies.
Peace.
