Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has released two newly-declassified documents related to government surveillance abuses against the Trump campaign in 2016.
The first document, withheld from public view until now, is a 57-page summary of a three-day FBI interview in January 2017 with Christopher Steele’s so-called "primary sub-source" in the anti-Trump allegations and "dossier."
Document number two, also withheld from public view until now, takes apart a New York Times article written by Michael Schmidt, Mark Mazzetti, and Matt Apuzzo.
Comments made by then-FBI agent Peter Strzok undercut a litany of claims made in the Times article, which was entitled: "Trump Campaign Aides Had Repeated Contact With Russian Intelligence."
Claim in NYT article: "Phone records and intercepted calls show that members of Donald J. Trump's presidential campaign and other Trump associates had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election, according to four current and former American officials."

There is as yet no explanation in the documents or from the New York Times as to the identities of the four "American officials" who apparently provided the misleading and false information; or what their motivation was.
However, it is clear that inaccurate reporting such as that in the Times had a significant influence on the trajectory of the Trump-Russia collusion probe, which ultimately concluded there had been no collusion on the part of Trump, anyone in the Trump campaign, or any U.S. person.

Lees anders mijn eerste zin. De NYT heeft nooit iets beweerd. Dat ze weergeven wat er in het Steele dossier staat wil nog niet zeggen dat ze beweren dat het waar is. Er zijn altijd twijfels geweest over het waarheidsgehalte van dat rapport.quote:

Welke specifieke quotes doel je op ?
A. Er word beweerd dat alle opmerkingen persoonlijk door Peter Strzok geplaatst zijn bij het artikel. Het document noemt nergens specifiek een enkele auteur, dus die conclusie kan je niet trekken.
B. De titel van het Just the News artikel begint al met dat er "massive errors" in het artikel zitten. De opmerkingen van de FBI geven kanttekeningen over details, maar geven maar op een paar punten aan dat het verslag feitelijk onjuist is.
De introductie zou misleidend zijn. Roger Stone zou niet onderzocht zijn door de FBI, waar gesteld was dat dat wel zo is. Prima, dat zou dan onjuist zijn. Maar daar houd het dan op.
Daarnaast schreef de NYT dat de FBI "banking records" zou hebben, een de comment daarop is dat ze geen "detailed" banking records hebben. Dus ze zijn er wel, maar niet gedetailleerd blijkbaar?
Verder zijn het bijna enkel opmerkingen dat de FBI ergens niet van op de hoogte is, maar er is nergens die de NYT beweerd dat hun bron bij de FBI werkt, die zijn namelijk anoniem gebleven. Geen onjuistheden, dus, maar alleen een bewering die de persoon die de comments geplaatst heeft niet kan bevestigen nog ontkennen. Het zou kunnen dat de NSA, CIA of CID we wel informatie over hebben die de FBI op het moment van plaatsen van de comments niet in bezit had.
Dus de kern van het bericht word niet ontkracht, de details worden er uit gepikt en uitvergroot als "massive errors".
C. Het artikel staat nog steeds, met twee kleine rectificaties, op de website van de NYT. Als dit zulke "massive errors" zouden zijn, dan was het artikel onlangs opnieuw gerectificeerd of zelfs verwijderd.
Blijkbaar blijven de bronnen die de NYT geraadpleegd hebben dus achter hun gegeven informatie staan, en is de informatie gestaafd door derde bronnen.
Nog steeds staat de naam van Roger Stone in het lijstje van mensen dat onderzocht zou zijn door de FBI. Dat zou smaad zijn, dat is behoorlijk strafbaar in de VS. Maar het staat er nog steeds. Dat moet iets zeggen over de betrouwbaarheid van die informatie, blijkbaar.Ja en Solomon is editor in chief zoals je ook kunt lezen.quote:

In het hele artikel word vervolgens ook meermaals gesproken over intel van de NSA, CIA en CID. De informatie die deze partijen wel of niet zouden hebben is juist heel relevant, want daar zeggen de comments niks over. Logisch ook, want als de comments door iemand van de FBI geplaatst zijn, dan heeft die persoon daar geen of zeer beperkte kennis van.
Dus zelfs al zou je het artikel aanpassen, en een aantal zaken die zogenaamd door de FBI onderzocht zijn weghalen, dan blijft 95% van het artikel nog steeds staan.

This is the story of how the primary sub source was uncovered with no traditional journalist being involved.
It starts shortly after the summary is released. The primary work is done on twitter. Semi-Casual Observer (@CasualSemi) posts a critical bit of information. Based on the length of the redaction we know that the name is 14 characters long. This starts the ball rolling.
Using the length of the redactions we can then deduce many other details about the PSS (primary sub source's) biography. There are redactions for a lot of different details like place of birth and where he went to school. We know already it is a he by the way as the summary does not use he/she. Blackjack then posts a summary of all the critical details in the bio of the PSS. A very useful summary that was obtained by the work of a lot of different twitter accounts.
The entire twitter thread is here. Be sure to follow those that added information as they are brilliant online researchers.
So now we have a list of details we can use to find this person. Lots of names are thrown out but none of them are the right person based on details in the biography included in the summary.
To find the primary sub source we are going to have to expand the list of names to search beyond the common ones associated with Steele and Orbis Intelligence.
One of the more interesting things about the primary sub source that was revealed in the release of the summary of the interviews is that the sub source seemed rather young. The timing of his university and first work experiences did not match someone with a long career. Overall my impression was that this person was not a serious super spy or someone with lengthy experience. The next place to look in order to expand the list of possible names is to one of the great bits of analysis in the entire spygate affair. Yaacov Apelbaum's "The Mechanics of Deception" post on his blog.

Of particular interest are some of the younger people connected to Orbis. There are three younger people connected to Orbis Intelligence that stand out. Chris Utechin, Keiran Porter, and Alex Buckland. These three are all connected in some way to Steele's organization and have joined together more recently to form their own intelligence company. Elisius Intelligence, according to their website, features these three partnered together to fulfill intelligence requirements from companies around the globe. It was very tempting to want to force one of these three into the bibliographical details as the connection to Steele is so clear however none of them are truly a match to the details presented in the interview.
However, they do lead us to the person we are seeking. Kieran Porter has a twitter account. He follows and is followed by lots of people. One in particular caught my eye.
The initial thing that caught my attention was that his name matched the redacted characters. A four character first name with a nine character last name. That is certainly pretty thin evidence however it is a start. Fortunately his twitter account was open and public so I was able to look through his timeline. The twitter posts match the profile. This person is taking trips to Moscow, Ukraine, and mostly London. The trips coincide quite well to critical dates in the dossier creation. Lots of interest is shown for topics that are eventually covered in the dossier as well. It's a good sign but not enough.
Next I find some basic information about his schooling. We know from the interview he went to high school in various locations and the character length of his university (in the United States). We also know he comes from a four letter town in a five letter redacted city. Here is a brilliant observation from the Semi-Casual (but pretty sharp!) user on twitter:
Without this I would have given up. However this person went to school in Perm and then to a University in the US that fit the redacted character length. This is starting to look like a match.
Not enough to be sure but enough to keep searching. There is one other distinctive clue. The primary sub source was involved in a program affiliated with the Library of Congress. It doesn't take much to identify that as the Openworld program which is an exchange program for students concentrated in the countries of the former Soviet Union. Would this person match? Well at first I couldn't get a solid and complete match. The best I could find was involvement in the FLEX program which seems similar.

Ik sta 100% achter het vrijgeven van het document gezien de relevantie ervan in het Steele dossier verhaal. Echter denk ik wel dat je je af kunt vragen of de redactions voldoende waren.

Dat het Steele dossier niet geverifieerd is toch helemaal niks nieuws? Daar zijn altijd vraagtekens bij gezet. Ook het verlengen van de FISA-aanvragen van Carter Page (waarbij fouten gemaakt zijn) doet niks af aan het feit dat er grond was voor een onderzoek naar leden van de Trump campagne mbt Rusland. Waarom denk je dat Barr en Trump Roger Stone strafvermindering willden geven? Dat alle verdere onderzoeken naar Trump gedwarsboomd worden? Dat we nooit meer wat gehoord hebben van het onderzoek naar het lekken van Clinton emails door Giuliani naar Fox News in de aanloop naar de verkiezingen van 2016? Dat Manafort medewerking weigerde?
