Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has released two newly-declassified documents related to government surveillance abuses against the Trump campaign in 2016.
The first document, withheld from public view until now, is a 57-page summary of a three-day FBI interview in January 2017 with Christopher Steele’s so-called "primary sub-source" in the anti-Trump allegations and "dossier."
Document number two, also withheld from public view until now, takes apart a New York Times article written by Michael Schmidt, Mark Mazzetti, and Matt Apuzzo.
Comments made by then-FBI agent Peter Strzok undercut a litany of claims made in the Times article, which was entitled: "Trump Campaign Aides Had Repeated Contact With Russian Intelligence."
Claim in NYT article: "Phone records and intercepted calls show that members of Donald J. Trump's presidential campaign and other Trump associates had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election, according to four current and former American officials."
Note by Strzok: "This statement is misleading and inaccurate as written. There is as yet no explanation in the documents or from the New York Times as to the identities of the four "American officials" who apparently provided the misleading and false information; or what their motivation was.
However, it is clear that inaccurate reporting such as that in the Times had a significant influence on the trajectory of the Trump-Russia collusion probe, which ultimately concluded there had been no collusion on the part of Trump, anyone in the Trump campaign, or any U.S. person.

Just the News is daarnaast een bron die door Media Bias Fact Check als Mixed beoordeeld word op feitelijke journalistiek, niet een erg overtuigende score.
Heb je ook wat beters dan dit, of moet het weer zoals altijd uit een matige bron komen?
Oh, en COLLUSION was nooit het onderwerp van het onderzoek van Mueller, maar dat is al tot in den treure uitgelegd. Dat rechtse media toch maar steeds over COLLUSION praat, geeft maar weer aan hoe groot de rechtse grammofoonplaat voor hun kop is.

Lees anders mijn eerste zin. De NYT heeft nooit iets beweerd. Dat ze weergeven wat er in het Steele dossier staat wil nog niet zeggen dat ze beweren dat het waar is. Er zijn altijd twijfels geweest over het waarheidsgehalte van dat rapport.quote:

Wat klopt er niet aan de inhoud ? Als jullie kunnen aantonen dat de inhoud niet correct is haal ik het weg laat ik enkel het officiële document staan. Echter is de inhoud gewoon correct en de bron staat niet aangemerkt als questionable of borderline questionable.

A. Er word beweerd dat alle opmerkingen persoonlijk door Peter Strzok geplaatst zijn bij het artikel. Het document noemt nergens specifiek een enkele auteur, dus die conclusie kan je niet trekken.
B. De titel van het Just the News artikel begint al met dat er "massive errors" in het artikel zitten. De opmerkingen van de FBI geven kanttekeningen over details, maar geven maar op een paar punten aan dat het verslag feitelijk onjuist is.
De introductie zou misleidend zijn. Roger Stone zou niet onderzocht zijn door de FBI, waar gesteld was dat dat wel zo is. Prima, dat zou dan onjuist zijn. Maar daar houd het dan op.
Daarnaast schreef de NYT dat de FBI "banking records" zou hebben, een de comment daarop is dat ze geen "detailed" banking records hebben. Dus ze zijn er wel, maar niet gedetailleerd blijkbaar?
Verder zijn het bijna enkel opmerkingen dat de FBI ergens niet van op de hoogte is, maar er is nergens die de NYT beweerd dat hun bron bij de FBI werkt, die zijn namelijk anoniem gebleven. Geen onjuistheden, dus, maar alleen een bewering die de persoon die de comments geplaatst heeft niet kan bevestigen nog ontkennen. Het zou kunnen dat de NSA, CIA of CID we wel informatie over hebben die de FBI op het moment van plaatsen van de comments niet in bezit had.
Dus de kern van het bericht word niet ontkracht, de details worden er uit gepikt en uitvergroot als "massive errors".
C. Het artikel staat nog steeds, met twee kleine rectificaties, op de website van de NYT. Als dit zulke "massive errors" zouden zijn, dan was het artikel onlangs opnieuw gerectificeerd of zelfs verwijderd.
Blijkbaar blijven de bronnen die de NYT geraadpleegd hebben dus achter hun gegeven informatie staan, en is de informatie gestaafd door derde bronnen.
Nog steeds staat de naam van Roger Stone in het lijstje van mensen dat onderzocht zou zijn door de FBI. Dat zou smaad zijn, dat is behoorlijk strafbaar in de VS. Maar het staat er nog steeds. Dat moet iets zeggen over de betrouwbaarheid van die informatie, blijkbaar.
