Indien Rusland zich er echt mee gaat bemoeien dan sturen ze denk ik niet 3 vrachtwagens en een halve tank over de grens, maar is het eerder een Georgie scenario, waarbij ze doelgericht de vijandelijke strijdkrachten uitschakelen in een serie van snelle aanvallen.

The Russian, pro-Kremlin, news site Pravda.ru has published an article, citing a supposed "source in the Ministry of Defence", that hints strongly at a possible Russian pretext for invading Ukraine. The source says that not only have forces returned (as we have clearly seen) but that plans exist to cross the border and establish a "humanitarian corridor" in the Donbass.
Russian tanks indeed appear to have already crossed the border, albeit unmarked. The article also describes a visit by Sergei Ivanov, the head of the Presidential Administration, to Rostov where he described the situation in Ukraine as "genocide". While today's deployment of unmarked forces may serve to provide some sort of provocation or advanced spearhead to establish control, there are clear signs that the Russian government is considering an open invasion under the guise of humanitarian intervention. Such apparent government leaks in the Russian media are often employed by the Kremlin to give heed to their plans.
According to a source at the Ministry of Defence, army units and military equipment are drawing up to the Russo-Ukrainian border. That they are equipped with engineering and construction equipment as well as fuel tankers and medical battalions indicates that the military is here to stay for a long time. RBK reports this citing a source in the Ministry of Defence.
The source also confirmed to the agency reports that scenarios are being worked out for Russian forces in Donetsk and Lugansk to create a so-called "humanitarian corridor" in the Donbass.
"Indeed, such a possibility is being studied: within days of receiving the order the military would need to create screens between the civilian population and the Ukrainian army, and propose an ultimatum to the opposing side on the need for a ceasefire. The use of force is only possible in the event of fire in our direction", said the military source.

- slaviansk omsingelend
- rebellen in de houdgreep
- dan een dwingend ultimatum stellen
De vraag is of Poetin dit scenario toestaat.

De Oekraense president Porosjenko heeft een decreet getekend dat een tijdelijk staakt-het-vuren in Oekrane afkondigt. Dat heet het ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken vanavond gemeld. Porosjenko wil hiermee de separatisten in het oosten de mogelijkheid geven hun wapens neer te leggen. (NRC)

In dat geval is de troepen versterking aan de grens nodig om de ontmanteling van de strijd, vanaf Russische zijde te stabiliseren.
Het staakt het vuren kan ook door Poetin zijn afgedwongen, onder dreiging het land binnen te vallen.

Violence in eastern Ukraine may abate for a while, but Russian meddling could crank it up again
Ukraine's parliament agreed yesterday (19 June) to discuss a bill to allow gas transit facilities to be leased on a joint venture basis with participation from firms in the European Union or United States.
Ukraine would hold 51% and foreign partners would be offered 49% in the venture, which would manage both transit pipelines and underground gas storage facilities.
Suffering a third cut-off of natural gas supplies from Russia in under nine years, and with political relations in crisis, Ukraine is desperate to become less dependent on Russian gas, but at the same time to provide more reliable transit for the Russian gas that Europe needs.
The government said the joint venture would bring in investment and remove the need for the South Stream pipeline, which Russia's Gazprom is building to take gas to southeastern Europe across the Black Sea, avoiding Ukraine.
It would also aim to boost Ukraine's capacity to receive "reverse flows" of Russian gas reimported back from EU countries.

Interpretatie 1
Eergisteren sneden Oekrainse strijdkrachten Slaviansk af van de grens met Rusland. Gisteren reed er een colonne van 5 tanks, 5 APCs & 20 militaire voertuigen door Lugansk, van de Russische grens naar o.a. Horlivka & Slaviansk. Dat is versterking / bevoorrading voor de opstandelingen.
Dit kan niet zonder Russische medewerking. Dat is een voorbeeld waaruit blijkt dat Rusland zich wel mengt in het conflict.
Het is dus te beschouwen als een Ukrainse onafhankelijkheidsoorlog, ruim 20 jaar na dato. Ook in het leger, de veiligheidsdienst en de Rada zitten mensen die aangestuurd worden vanuit Rusland. Daarom vormt Oekraine milities buiten het leger om (Donbass Batallion, Azov Battalion, Aidar Battalion). Daarom zijn er berichten over de slechte samenwerking tussen deze twee.
Donbass Batallion (inmiddels 2000 man sterk) vormt nu ook een Krim Batallion. Het is niet duidelijk waarvoor, maar ik vermoed dat ze in de Krim de Russen het leven zuur gaan maken (net zoals de Rusland in Donbass te werk gaat).
Interpretatie 2
Het is een proxy oorlog tussen de RF en Het Westen. Dat blijkt o.a uit alles dat het westen heeft gedaan om Oekraine opte nemen in zijn invloedssfeer (EU & NATO), en de stimuleren van de volksopstand in Kiev tegen de zittende elite.

Poroshenko Proposes 15 Point Peace Plan
The office of the Ukrainian President, Petro Poroshenko, has published his proposals for a peace plan:
Peaceful plan of the President of Ukraine on the settlement of the situation in eastern regions of Ukraine:
1. Security guarantees for all the participants of negotiations.
2. Amnesty for those who laid down weapons and didn’t commit serious crimes.
3. Liberation of hostages.
4. Establishment of 10 km long buffer zone on the Ukrainian-Russian border. Withdrawal of illegal armed formations.
5. Secure corridor for the escape of Russian and Ukrainian mercenaries.
6. Disarmament.
7. Establishment of units for joint patrolling in the structure of the MIA (missing in action).
8. Liberation of illegally seized administrative premises in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
9. Restoration of functioning of local government.
10. Restoration of central television and radio broadcasting in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
11. Decentralization of power (through the election of executive committees, protection of Russian language; draft amendments to the Constitution).
12. Coordination of governors with representatives of the Donbas before the elections (in case of the approval of single candidature, in case of discrepancies – the decision is taken by the President).
13. Early local and parliamentary elections.
14. Program of creating jobs in the region.
15. Restoration of industrial objects and objects of social infrastructure.
The BBC reports that Poroshenko also announced that he would invite the OSCE to monitor the ceasefire.
However they note that the Russian government has not reacted enthusiastically to the ceasefire announcement:
The Kremlin dismissed the truce, saying it was "not an invitation to peace and negotiations but an ultimatum".
Ukrainian news agencies quoted a senior rebel commander as saying the insurgents would not lay their arms until government troops had left the region.

The Verkhovna Rada on June 5 passed a number of changes to the law on terrorism which had been heavily criticized by lawyers for not providing an effective legal framework to fight Kremlin-backed separatists Ukraine’s eastern-most regions of Luhansk and Donetsk.
The amendments were passed in the third attempt by a simple majority of 239 lawmakers out of the legislature’s 450. President Petro Poroshenko signed the document on June 18.
They are supposed to extend the legal reach that counterterrorism forces have to combat the Russia-backed militants. Until now, there were restrictions and preconditions attached to firing and ending the life of a terrorist.

Ukraine is following American policy on restricting travel to the country from Russia. The State Border Service on April 17 restricted entry for Russian male citizens aged 16-60 and since then they are allowed to come only if they can prove they’re visiting a relative who is fatally sick or deceased.
Moreover, National Security and Defense Council head AndriyParubiy on June 16 said that Ukraine will build a solid wall along its state border with Russia to avoid any future provocations from the Russian side.

Dat is slecht nieuws voor heel Europa. Want Europa heeft geen collectieve defensie, maar ontleent zijn militaire zelfverdediging aan de NAVO. Dat verklaart gelijk de rol van de VS. Dit land is het machtscentrum van het westerse kamp.
Dat is heel slecht nieuws voor Oekraine. Dat maakt het onmogelijk om een zelfstandige staat te vormen binnen de huidige grenzen. Dat zal dan waarschijnlijk op het slachtveld worden uitgevochten.
Het alternatief is dat Rusland afstapt van zijn rampkoers. Rusland zals nooit meer een wereldmacht zijn. Het bevolkingsaantal is daarvoor te klein. Door het centrum te willen zijn van eigen machtsblok (de Euraziatische Unie) zal het ook aantrekkelijk moeten zijn voor toetredende landen. Maar Ruslands autoritaire bestuur, en bijbehorende corruptie, is niet aantrekkelijk. Dit probleem is niet militair op te lossen.

Putin Supports Ukraine's Ceasefire Move, Calls for Sides to Negotiate
MOSCOW — Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday he supported Ukraine's ceasefire, but added that without "practical action" to start negotiations the plan would not be viable.
"Vladimir Putin supports the decision of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to cease fire in the southeast of Ukraine, as well his stated intentions to take a number of concrete steps to achieve a peaceful settlement," the Kremlin said in a statement.
"However, the Russian head of state drew attention to the fact that the proposed plan, without practical action aimed at the beginning of the negotiation process, will not be viable and realistic."
The Ukrainian forces' seven-day ceasefire began at 10 p.m. on Friday, as part of the president's plan to end a rebel insurgency in the east of the country. On Saturday, pro-Russian separatists attacked Ukrainian posts on the border with Russia and a military base and tried to storm an airforce base overnight into Saturday, government forces said. The Kremlin said, without referring to any of the sides involved in the conflict, that Putin considers unacceptable that after the ceasefire order there were sounds of explosions and ammunition reaching Russian territory from Ukraine.

Het valt op dat sommige vormen van schadelijk gedrag blijkbaar afgehandeld zijn met de constatering dat het nu eenmaal zo is. Terwijl andere vormen van schadelijk gedrag, die ook van alle tijden zijn, altijd moeten worden vervolgd en bestraft. En dat verschil is de grote truc waarmee veel corruptie onder het vloerkleed verdwijnt. Men doet alsof bij misleiding het alleen gaat om de vraag of jij zo slim bent dat je het doorhebt, en niet om het liegen zelf en degene die liegt.

Russia's Putin calls for compromise in Ukraine
MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly expressed support Sunday for Ukraine's declaration of a cease-fire in its battle against pro-Russian separatists and called on both sides to negotiate a compromise.

Novosti Donbassa reports that separatist fighters have returned to the village of Shabelkovka near Kramatorsk.
The fighters were driven out of the village on Saturday, June 21, by around 200 local residents after the fighters had refused to dismantle their roadblock.
The report says however, that "Russian mercenaries" later arrived at the village and dispersed an impromptu meeting of local residents.
The terrorists fired into the air and kidnapped the brothers, Alexei and Roman Khokhotva, who they accused of organising the dismantling of the roadblock .
On the following day the militants kidnapped another relative of Roman Khokhotva. The three are now in the occupied Ukrainian Security Service building in the town of Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region.

Pro-Russische separatisten in Oekrane hebben alsnog hun steun gegeven aan het bestand dat president Porosjenko afgelopen vrijdag eenzijdig afkondigde. Ook zullen ze de ontvoerde waarnemers van de OVSE vrijlaten.
De separatisten komen met hun toezeggingen na overleg vandaag in Donetsk, onder leiding van de Oekraense oud-president Koetsjma. Aan het overleg namen de leiders van de separatisten in Loegansk en Donetsk deel, twee van de belangrijkste pro-Russische regio's in Oost-Oekrane. Ook waren de Russische ambassadeur en een OVSE-vertegenwoordiger aanwezig.
Tot nu toe wilden de separatisten alleen de wapens neerleggen als het Oekraense leger zich uit het Oosten van Oekrane zou terugtrekken. Die eis hebben ze nu dus laten vallen.
Rustig
Het bestand geldt tot vrijdag. Die einddatum werd afgelopen vrijdag ook al gesteld door president Porosjenko. Hij zei toen dat het Oekraense leger zich nog wel zou verdedigen tegen aanvallen van separatisten. De afkondiging van het eenzijdige bestand leidde daarom niet tot een einde aan de gevechten. Vandaag was het voor het eerst rustig in Oekrane.
Als het de komende dagen rustig blijft, kunnen vredesinitiatieven een serieuze kans krijgen. Porosjenko heeft tot nu toe geweigerd om rechtstreeks in gesprek te gaan met de separatisten, die hij terroristen noemt. Hij ging wel akkoord met bemiddeling door Koetsjma, die zelf uit het oosten afkomstig is. Koetsjma was president van 1994 tot 2005.
Poetin en Obama
De Russische president Poetin en zijn Amerikaanse collega Obama hebben vandaag telefonisch overlegd over de situatie in Oekrane. Obama heeft in dat gesprek gezegd dat hij met extra sancties zal komen als Rusland niet snel zijn best doet om het conflict in Oekrane te de-escaleren.
Dat is goed nieuws. Tot nu toe sloten de posities van beide partijen een oplossing uit. Hopelijk is een vergelijkbare doorbraak ook mogelijk mbt tot het vredesplan.quote:

South Stream, which will cost an estimated $40 billion (29.4 billion euros), is designed to carry Russian gas to the center of Europe. Russia currently supplies a third of Europe's gas. The pipeline bypasses the current transit route through Ukraine and would make Europe even more dependent on Russian gas, critics say.
The EU Commission says South Stream as it stands does not comply with EU competition law because it offers no access to third parties. The EU also objects to the fact that Gazprom will control both the pipeline itself and the gas supply.
The pipeline will stretch across Russia, under the Black Sea and then through Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary and Slovenia to Austria.
Gazprom's partners for the offshore part of the project are Italy's ENI, Germany's Wintershall Holding and France's EDF.

(Reuters) - NATO will not approve a formal step to membership for Georgia at its summit in Britain in September and will delay taking a decision on whether to admit Montenegro until next year, NATO officials said on Wednesday.
NATO members have agreed in principle to draw up a substantive package of cooperation with Georgia that would "help it come closer to NATO", Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen told reporters during a meeting of alliance foreign ministers.
But that falls short of an invitation to join NATO's Membership Action Plan - a formal step towards NATO membership - that Georgia had hoped for.
The question of whether to grant Georgia a NATO Membership Action Plan has been highly controversial since it split the alliance at a 2008 Bucharest summit.
Months afterwards, Russia fought a five-day war with Georgia and later recognised two breakaway provinces as independent nations.
That has made many NATO allies wary of welcoming Georgia into the alliance as that would mean NATO could be obliged to come to its defence in the event of another war with Russia.
Montenegro's hopes of receiving an invitation to join the alliance at the September summit in Wales were also dashed.

DONETSK, June 25, 1:01 /ITAR-TASS/. Kiev in fact sabotages the ceasefire agreements with Ukraine's south-eastern regions, a leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Denis Pushilin, told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
“Today after the consultations were over, the [Ukrainian] military continued shelling [the village of] Semenovka [on the outskirts of the city of Slaviansk],” Pushilin, who chairs the presidium of the DPR's Supreme Council, said. “About five people were killed there and a convoy of heavy armoured vehicles was heading towards the city of Donetsk from the area of Donetsk’s airport.”
“And it is just a short list of aggressive activities of the occupation troops in our territory,” he said.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said the draft changes to the Ukrainian Constitution dealing with the decentralization of power will be submitted to the parliament on June 26.
Poroshenko said he is hoping that the parliament will adopt the changes next week. "Tomorrow, I am scheduled to visit Strasbourg and speak in PACE to present our new changes to the Constitution," the president said.
Poroshenko earlier said the draft changes to the Constitution envision "a key element of the peace plan: decentralization of power, on which the Ukrainian government has done a lot of work and whose main policies were developed and approved by me."

Interfax-Ukraine reports that Yevhen Perebiynis, the spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, has clearly implicated Russia in the conflict in Ukraine's south-east. He also said that Russian officials were directly coordinating hostage taking, including the kidnapping of two OSCE observer groups.

The militants acting in eastern Ukraine are financed, controlled and supported by Russia, and a large portion of them are citizens of that country, said the director of the Foreign Ministry's Information Department, Yevhen Perebiynis.
"It is with Russian weapons, which freely and (there are good reasons to speak of this) under the auspices of the Russian authorities, find their way in large quantities into eastern Ukraine, that the terrorists are killing Ukrainian soldiers and civilians", said Perebiynis at a briefing on Wednesday.
According to him, the activities of the militants are controlled from Russia. "In fact, Russian officials are giving commands to the militants on when, where and how to capture or release hostages, including observers from international organisations," said the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry.

Both sides seem loosely organized and fragmented, with no strong central command structure. Russian commentators have argued that the conflict is advantageous for the Kiev government as it distracts from Ukraine's struggling economy and harsh austerity measures. WHAT ARE THE COSTS?
One reason that ousted Ukrainian president Yanukovich rejected the EU deal in November was because he said it would cost Kiev $500 billion in trade with Russia. Implementing EU standards would cost another $104 billion, he said.
The EU says Ukraine is still free to trade with Russia, and it will provide support and funds to help meet EU rules. However, by agreeing to the EU accord, Ukraine can no longer join Russia's customs union, because members Belarus and Kazakhstan are not members of the World Trade Organisation.
EU diplomats worry Moscow may remove Ukraine's preferential treatment to its markets and implementing high tariffs, or at worst blocking goods at its border.
Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia are also agreeing to considerable domestic reforms that will challenge entrenched interests among business and the political class.

De onderhandelingen erkennen geen enkel standpunt van de rebellen. Hoe men overeenstemming kan bereiken met de rebellen (zodat zij hun wapen neerleggen, verdwijnen of zich laten bestraffen) is mij een raadsel. Tenzij de rebellen geen eigen doel nastreven, slechts een instrument zijn in handen van Rusland. In dat laatste geval moet je niet onderhandelen met de rebellen, maar direct met Rusland. De vraag in het hele conflict is telkens weer:
Vertegenwoordigen de rebellen een eigen standpunt of zijn ze slechts een proxy?
Volgens mij beide. Maar inzover de rebellen het standpunt van de Russische bevolking vertegenwoordigen, wordt hen dit ontnomen, en vullen Rusland en Kiev dit samen in, achter de rug van de bevolking om.
Het associatie verdrag staat in het teken van onversneden marktdenken. De EuroMaidan beweging is daarin naief. Die geloven in het Amerikaanse model (Rule of Law, Civil Society, Free Markets, Human Rights) zoals het op papier wordt opgedist. Maar een ideologische verhaal is meestal een schaamlap voor machtsspel. Wie deugd er eigenlijk wel?
In het NRC stond dit weekeinde een stuk waarin werd bepleit, dat de EU in de strijd tegen Rusland samen 1 vuist moeten maken. Dat daarbij een zekere mate van opofferingsgezindheid nodig is. Deze boodschap hoor je vooral als het gaat om een stammenstrijd (Het Westen vs Rusland), Gaat het om een klassenstrijd (Elite vs Jan met de Pet), dan zijn we ineens allemaal individualist en is solidariteit een scheldwoord.

Gisteren
Volgens de rebellen is de beschieting van het vliegveld in Kramatorsk van vannacht een vergelding voor de aanhoudende granaatbeschietingen van de buitenwijken van Kramatorsk en Slaviansk door het Oekrainse leger. Ook formuleren ze eigen voorwaarden voor een staakt het vuren:
1. Terugtrekking van het leger tot 10 km van de legerplaatsen van de rebellen
2. Staken Oekrainse vluchten over de gebieden van de rebellen
3. Beeindiging van de beschieten van de posities van de rebellen

Er is een kind omgekomen in de plaats Antracit. Beide partijen even elkaar de schuld.
In totaal zijn er inmiddels meer van 40 kinderen omgekomen volgens dit bericht. Volgens de Oekrainse overheid zijn het 4.

Er is alweer allerlei extra militair materieel door de Russen aan de grens geplaatst, waaronder Mig 29 straaljagers, communicatie apparatuur, een colonnes met allerlei leger voertuigen.
Als Porosjenko de rebellen de oorlog verklaart, blijven de russische troepen dan afzijdig, of escaleert dit tot een Oekrainse onafhankelijkheidsoorlog? Of blijft Rusland afzijdig, maar voortdurend stoken in het conflict? Ik denk dat ze blijven stoken.

Separatisten bij de Oekraense basis
Pro-Russische separatisten hebben een legerbasis bij de opstandige stad Donetsk in Oost-Oekrane veroverd en de commandant gevangengenomen. Dat heeft een woordvoerder van het regeringsleger bevestigd.
De overige militairen zijn overgebracht naar een andere militaire basis. Aan de inname van de legerbasis ging een zeven uur durend vuurgevecht vooraf.
Schending
De strijd bij Donetsk betekent een nieuwe schending van het staakt-het-vuren dat de Oekraense president Porosjenko een week geleden afkondigde en dat later door de separatisten werd overgenomen. Vandaag loopt het bestand af.
De strijdende partijen in het oosten hebben elkaar de afgelopen week voortdurend beticht van schendingen. Zo vielen dinsdag acht doden toen de rebellen een militaire helikopter neerhaalden bij de stad Slavjansk.
Poetin
De Russische president Poetin heeft er bij Porosjenko op aangedrongen het bestand te verlengen om een vredesdialoog op gang te brengen.
Maar de Oekraense president lijkt hier weinig voor te voelen, zolang Rusland naar zijn zeggen de rebellen van wapens en steun blijft voorzien.
Toch is er sprake van een mogelijk vredesoverleg waaraan alle partijen en ook Rusland en de EU zouden meedoen. Gisteren werd gezegd dat dat gesprek vandaag plaatsvindt in Donetsk.

De Oekraense president Petro Porosjenko heeft vandaag in Brussel zijn handtekening gezet onder de EU-overeenkomst die vorig jaar tot een bloedige opstand leidde. Vanavond om 22.00 uur loopt het staakt-het-vuren tussen de pro-Russische separatisten en het regeringsleger af. Duizenden Oekraners zijn gisteren en vannacht op de vlucht geslagen uit angst voor een nieuwe opleving van het geweld.
Rusland heeft woedend gereageerd op de ondertekening van het associatieverdrag tussen De Europese Unie en Oekrane. Hoewel de beslissing het soevereine recht van Oekrane is, zal de stap volgens onderminister van Buitenlandse Zaken Grigori Karasin 'ernstige consequenties' hebben.
Volgens een woordvoerder van het Kremlin zal Rusland maatregelen nemen om zijn economie te beschermen als blijkt dat de verdragen die de EU vandaag sloot met Oekrane, Georgi en Moldavi economisch schadelijk zijn, meldt persbureau RIA Novosti.

Four Ukrainian servicemen killed in new fighting: military source
(Reuters) - Dmytro Tymchuk, who has good sources among government forces, said the rebels, backed by eight Russian tanks and firing mortar bombs, stormed a military base near Kramatorsk in one of several rebel attacks overnight.
"In return fire by government forces, one terrorist tank was destroyed and one tank captured," Tymchuk said on his Facebook page. "Four service personnel were killed, five wounded," he added.
In other fighting, Tymchuk said, rebels again attacked forces taking part in the government's "anti-terrorist operation" on a hill near the city of Slaviansk and one Ukrainian soldier was wounded by sniper fire.
Rebels also attacked a military base in the early hours at Artemivsk, using tank and other fire. Ukrainian forces repelled this attack without any casualties, he said.

Next round of consultations on south-east Ukraine crisis may be held June 27

On June 23, consultations were held in Donetsk between representatives of the Ukrainian authorities and the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR).
Participating in the talks were
- Kuchma,
- the OSCE Secretary-General’s special representative Heidi Tagliavini,
- Ukrainian Choice leader Viktor Medvedchuk,
- DNR leader Alexander Borodai,
- South-East Movement leader Oleg Tsarev, and
- LNR officials.
- Russian Ambassador in Kiev Mikhail Zurabov attended the consultations as well.
However, Borodai said later that these were informal preliminary consultations but no talks were being considered:
At the same time, Borodai saidquote:There is no question of talks for two reasons:
1. Full-fledged negotiations as such can be possible only after Kiev has met seven conditions put forth by Oleg Tsarev, co-chair of the Novorossiya People’s Front. These conditions are our common position.
2. The second reason is that the officials who came to Donetsk today had no official powers and status.
He said further discussions, even in the format of informal consultations, could be possible only if Kiev ceased fire and stopped the redeployment of its army and National Guard which threaten the Donbass militia.quote:At least some dialogue has been started by Kiev which for several months preferred to speak in the language of heavy artillery.
Tsarev’s conditions include:
- withdrawal of the Ukrainian troops from the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics,
- payment by Kiev of compensation to the people affected by the conflict,
- coordination by the Ukrainian president and the republics’ parliaments of a constitutional act that would determine their status, and
- amnesty for the militiamen and political prisoners.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has described the Association Agreement as an instrument of preparing Ukraine for its full-fledged membership of the European Union.

The empire of overthrown President Viktor Yanukovych extended far beyond his billion-dollar Mezhyhirya estate.
He also kept residences in the Carpathians and Crimea as well as hunting estates. He had an impressive car collection and made his travel fast and comfortable with personal helicopters and a plane. He held lavish receptions with expensive champagne and other pricey treats.
All these luxuries were courtesy of Ukraine’s long-suffering taxpayers – specifically through the state Asset Management Department, known in Ukrainian as DUSya. During Yanukovych’s four-year presidency, the department was managed by Andriy Kravets, a reclusive operative nicknamed “Yanukovych’s caretaker.”

An arrest warrant was issued on June 26 for Renat Kuzmin, one of Ukraine's most controversial prosecutors. He has been missing since the beginning of June, according to the Interior Ministry’s website.
Kuzmin served as the first deputy general prosecutor under disgraced ex-President Viktor Yanukovych, overthrown on Feb. 22 by the EuroMaidan Revolution.
Kuzmin played a major role in politically motivated criminal convictions of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko, who both served prison terms. Lutsenko spent two years in prison, while Tymoshenko served six months longer before being freed the day Yanukovych left power.
Kuzmin’s former boss, ex-Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka, has been on the wanted list since April 28 and has appeared on Russian TV alongside his friend and patron Yanukovych.
Kuzmin is suspected of organizing the illegal arrest of Lutsenko in 2010. He is also under investigation for bullying a judge into issuing a ruling to send Lutsenko to prison.

Invloed
De EU-regeringsleiders, die in Brussel bijeen zijn voor een top, hebben Rusland opnieuw opgeroepen om de separatisten te vragen om de strijd op te geven. Ook wordt Rusland opgeroepen om geen wapens meer te leveren.

Ten slotte eist de top ook dat "substantile onderhandelingen" over de uitvoering van het vredesplan van de Oekraense president Petro Porosjenko van start gaan.
'Tevreden'
Porosjenko is naar eigen zeggen tevreden met het EU-ultimatum. "Veiligheid is nu ons grootste probleem. Oekrane wordt aangevallen", zei Porosjenko op een persconferentie, waarin hij het besluit van de EU-lidstaten voorlas.
Tot dusver heeft de EU sancties ingesteld tegen 31 mensen en twee bedrijven uit Oekrane en Rusland die betrokken waren bij de Russische annexatie van de Krim.

The sons of all high-ranking officials - from the president to the governor and lower officials - have to serve in the area of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO), and then problems with provisions will be quickly resolved.
Civil Position Party leader Anatoliy Hrytsenko said this on the ZIK television channel.
"They have to feel what is going on there and say, for example, that there are only 50 bulletproof vests for a unit of 300 persons, that there's lack of weapons, drinking water and medicines. Andrei Lysenko, a spokesman for the Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council (SNBO), announced at a briefing today in Kiev that Ukrainian forces have captured two tanks used by separatists in an attack in the Donbass.
The press office of the National Guard confirmed reports of five dead Ukrainian servicemen during shelling, and added that at least three security officers had been wounded.quote:As a result of the fighting, Ukrainian security forces have captured two T-64B tanks, which had been in service with the militants, one tank was knocked out.

The video shows the commander of the army of the 'Donetsk Peoples' Republic,' Igor Strelkov, showing off IDs taken from the dead Ukrainian soldiers. This is actually standard practice by the separatists as they often use the IDs and bodies to trade for their own casualties.
When showing the IDs to LifeNews, Strelkov tells the journalists to "take photos, or else they [Kiev] will say there aren't any killed from yesterday. Otherwise they say they have no losses, or they say one killed, two injured. But here..."
He says that the separatists took no prisoners, but that they did capture a working and undamaged BTR which he promises to show the journalists later.

Ieder zijn rol. Het leger heeft een rol en de pers een andere. Op het ministerie van defensie nemen ze ook geen genoegen met misleidende en eenzijdige informatie van derden.
Propaganda is alleen te rechtvaardigen als de burger in een democratie de rol van een horige krijgt. Daarmee is het ideologische verhaal (democracy, rule of law, civil society, free markets, human rights) op drijfzand gebaseerd. Daarmee is er geen principieel verschil tussen Het Westen of Rusland en blijft alleen een cynisch machtsspel over.
De rebellen in Oost-Oekraine krijgen geen enkele onderhandelingspositie. Zij moeten gewoon van het toneel verdwijnen. Dat is alleen redelijk als de rebellen proxies zijn van ongevraagde Russische inmenging. Daarom worden ze ook zo voorgesteld. Toch is dat maar half waar.
In dat geval moet nog eens goed gekeken worden naar de belangen van de bevolking in Oost-Oekraine. En dat feest gedruis in Kiev over aansluiting bij de EU gaat nog heel wat mensen hun baan kosten. Het is waarschijnlijk wel een verstandige keuze, maar daar mag je best eerlijker over zijn.

Een veelheid van gekleurde berichtgeving is ook niet voldoende. Iedere individuele krant kan worden aangesproken op de kwaliteit van zijn berichtgeving, dus ook het Journaal. In alle gevallen is betrouwbare berichtgeving te verkiezen boven misleidende. Pluriformiteit en vrijheid van media werkt alleen als mensen deze vrijheid gebruiken om kwaliteit af te dwingen. Het lijkt erop dat zij een grootmacht met een invloedssfeer willen zijn, geen gewoon land zoals alle anderen en zker geen arm land dat de boot van modernisering naar westers voorbeeld grotendeels gemist lijkt te hebben (zoals veel Oekraners hun land wel lijken te zien).
En dus is het al jaren geen vriendschappelijke relatie maar een constant over-en-weer aftasten van machtsverhoudingen binnen de kaders van wat verdragsrechtelijk is toegestaan. Zo ging het met alle incidenten tijdens het Nederland-Ruslandjaar en zo gaat het nu in de Oekrane-crisis ook weer. Dat is in die zin dus ook een proxy-conflict.

Alleen is er heel wat af te dingen op 1, 2 & 3 (net als in de VS) en past 4 alleen bij een supermacht (wat Rusland niet meer is).
De Rusland heeft zich nog niet neergelegd bij het verlies van hun positie van supermacht. Het probeert met de Euraziatische Unie opnieuw om het centrum van een imperium te worden. Dat kun je imperialisme en/of nationalisme noemen. Want Russen willen in de Eurarische Unie wel de baas zijn.
De bevolking van Rusland staat achter de annexatie van de Krim. Dat berust nationalistische sentimenten, net zoals hun idee van bescherming van etnische Russen in andere landen. Maar Rusland heeft vazalstaten nodig om een rol als supermacht te kunnen waarmaken. Die vazalstaten kun je niet paaien met Russisch nationalisme, dus noemen ze het anders. De nieuwe omarming van het orthodox christelijk geloof en Slavische broedervolkeren spelen daarin een rol.
De VS is ook geen gewoon land en wij vallen onder de invloedssfeer van de VS. Als wij Texel verkopen aan China, zodat zij daar een legerbasis kunnen aanleggen, dan mag dat niet. De EU is dus een deel van de invloedssfeer van de VS. Door de EU / NAVO verder uit te breiden, vergroot de VS hun invloedssfeer. Dat is belangrijk als de VS een supermacht wil blijven (want zij zijn ook maar 5% van de wereldbevolking; China heeft een veel grotere bevolking).
In Rusland zijn ze niet gek. Zij begrijpen dat het verhaal van de VS (democracy, rule of law, civil society, free markets, human rights) een ideologisch verhaal is, dat het machtsstreven van de VS verhuld. Noam Chomsky legt al decennia lang overtuigend uit dat de VS een imperialistische agenda heeft.
Dat is een tweede reden waarom Rusland niet meer meespeelt met het westerse maatschappelijke model. Dit gaat gewone burgers in Het Westen ook aan. Net zoals Rusland het gevoel heeft dat de ideologie een schaamlap is voor een stammenstrijd, zo heeft de burger in de VS het gevoel dat de ideologie een schaamlap is voor een klassenstrijd.
Al dit machtsstreven is schadelijk voor veel mensen. Het formele ideologische model is beter dan het machtsspel dat eronder schuilgaat. Daarom vind ik de strijd om invloed tussen twee machtsblokken onacceptabel (net zoals een klassenstrijd). In het formele ideologische model speelt de burger de hoofdrol, maar dan moeten burgers wel leren deze handschoen op te pakken. Volgens mij staat dit nog steeds in de kinderschoenen. Sinds wanneer hebben wij stemrecht? Sinds wanneer volgen kinderen van gewone mensen hogere opleidingen? Zou het kunnen dat we zelf ook nog veel te leren hebben? Ook onze samenleving maakt steeds een corrupte indruk.
Precies. Onze democratie en persvrijheid zijn dus ook alleen maar zo 'vrij' zolang bij ons een meerderheid zich vrijwillig binnen die kaders blijft bewegen. Dat is trouwens al heel lang zo, het hele herstel van de Nederlandse soevereiniteit na de Franse overheersing lag bijvoorbeeld ook al bij de grootmachten van destijds, die een bepaalde rol voor Nederland (nl. als neutrale bufferstaat) in gedachten hadden.quote:

Wat maakt nu het verschil tussen beter functionerende landen en slechter functionerende landen? Volgens mij, dat je het individuele streven naar voordeel beperkt tot het redelijke.
Zodra het een excuus Truus wordt voor het meelopen in een corrupt systeem, zouden mensen daar weerstand tegen moeten bieden (dat is het idee van 'civil society'). Dat betekent dat mensen niet te snel mee moeten gaan in argumenten die wijzen op je individuele voordeel, ten koste van wat redelijk is. Een besef van algemeen belang is noodzakelijk.
Edit: En daarvoor is een zekere mata van objectiviteit noodzakelijk.

The international airport of Ukraine’s eastern industrial city of Donetsk has been closed till October 31, a source in Ukraine’s state-run air traffic control authority Ukraerorukh told ITAR-TASS on Friday.
"The airport will stay closed for technical reasons till October 31,” the source said, quoting a special message of several hours ago. The official did not specify what the technical reasons were. The message he was referring to contained no hints on that score either.
No new information about the airgate’s further operation has appeared on the airport’s official website yet. On its homepage one can find only a statement of June 3, when Ukraine’s state aviation service closed down the airport till June 30.
Earlier, Ukraerorukh told ITAR-TASS that “for technical reasons” the international airport of another eastern city, Lugansk, has been closed till September 10. The official website says current repairs of lighting and radio navigation equipment, the runway and power supply cables are in progress.
All passenger flights in the airspace over the Donetsk and Lugansk regions are prohibited by the Ukrainian aviation authorities.

“I condemn the steps forcing media outlets to register and to report in favor of the illegal armed groups,” Mijatovic said. “Censored reporting under the threat of harassment and intimidation gravely violates freedom of the media and is unacceptable.”

Russia said on Saturday that three shells fired by Ukrainian troops have hit a customs post and residential areas inside its territory, causing damage but no injuries.
"In the course of clashes on Ukrainian territory, the Ukrainian military fired shells which ended up on Russian territory," a spokesman for the border service in the Rostov region, Vasily Malayev, told Russian agencies.
"One seriously damaged the building of a customs post" near the border town of Gukovo while two others landed in or around nearby villages, he said.

Rosneft and BP agreement
Russian oil major Rosneft and BP Oil International have signed an agreement on Friday, implying that Rosneft will supply 12 million tonnes of oil products to BP within the next five years. The supplies may start in July 2014.
Under the contract, BP must make an advanced payment standing at least at $1.5 billion. “The pre-payment amounted to about $2 billion at the moment of the agreement signing. Eight leading world banks took part in the deal. The pre-payment will rise because several other banks were interested in the deal as well,” a Rosneft representative said.
Oil products may be replaced for crude on demand under the agreement.
As World Leaders Discuss Russian Sanctions, BP and Rosneft Sign $2 Billion Deal
While Europe and the United States debate whether or not to further sanctions into the economic realm, the oil industry is taking a very strict "business as usual" approach. Rex Tillerson traveled to Moscow to speak on a World Petroleum Congress panel aside Rosneft's Igor Sechin (who is sanctioned) earlier this month, regardless of government officials opposing the trip. Business lobbies in the U.S. have also said they would oppose economic sanctions against Russia, worried they would affect American jobs and revenue streams.
The deal with B.P. is instrumental not only because of its size, 12 million tons for around $2 billion, but because of its longevity. Rosneft will supply B.P. with oil and oil products over the next five years. What is more, Rosneft has demanded prepayment. The prepaid amount will be at least $1.5 billion, the majority of the total deal. In the event of economic sanctions, $1.5 billion dollars essentially disappear. B.P. will throw around all of the weight it has in Washington to prevent this from happening.
Rosneft has signed some impressive deals worldwide recently, especially in the regions looking to sanction their homeland. Rosneft is pursuing a multi billion dollar drilling deal with Cuba's national oil company, they have started drilling on a $900 billion Arctic deal with Exxon and now, they have signed a long term deal with B.P.

De VS en EU maken ook onderscheid tussen landen. Dat Oekraine na ondertekening en ratificatie van het 2e deel van het verdrag minder importheffingen hoeft te betalen is een voorbeeld. De VS geeft landen een status (begunstigd en minder begunstigd) en gebruikt dat ook als drukmiddel. Rusland zal nu tav Oekraine minder gunstige voorwaarden hanteren, nu zij niet meer bij de familie willen horen. Dat reflecteert de bestaande realiteit van de handelsbetrekkingen in de wereld.

In november 2001 startte de Doha-ronde. Dit is een door de Wereldhandelsorganisatie (WTO) georganiseerde onderhandelingsronde waaraan de 153 leden van deze organisatie deelnamen. Het Oekraense leger heeft een Russisch onbemand verkenningsvliegtuig (drone) uit de lucht gehaald. Het toestel werd neergehaald in het grensgebied bij de plaats Loehansk.
Het ministerie van Defensie in Kiev meldde dat ook een Russische tank in handen is gevallen van het Oekraense leger. Volgens de Oekraense grensbewaking komen er nog steeds militaire spullen uit Rusland het land in.
Participants of the volunteer battalions Donbas, Dnipro, and Aidar, the Council of Maidan’s sotnias, and civic organizations of Maidan held a rally on Sunday June 29, demanding Poroshenko to end the ceasefire on the East and to declare a state of war. The rally was held not far from the President’s administration.
As part of the rally, Donbas battalion representatives made public their demands to the President:
1. Stop the ceasefire.
2. Declare a state of war in the east.
3. Provide the volunteer battalions with weapons and allow them to eliminate the terrorists.
4. Keep his electoral promises regarding social provision for the soldiers.
5. Demand the West to impose third-level sanctions against Russia.
The protesters handed the demands to the President through the first deputy head of the Presidential Administration Ghennadiy Zubko, who spoke at the rally, stating the need to negotiate and to continue consultations on the situation in the east of Ukraine, but his speech was interrupted with whistling and exclamations “Balabol,” “Shame,” “demagogy!”
Later, the leader of the Donbas battalion made an additional demand – to remove Medvedchuk, Shufrych, and “other traitors” from negotiations with the terrorists of the East.
Speaking of the negotiatiors, Zubko told the audience that Leonid Kuchma was the only official representative from Ukraine. As for Viktor Medvedchuk and Nestor Shufrych, they are, in his words, “intermediaries who have assumed the function of negotiating.”

De rebellen schat men op 20.000 man. Dat is meer dan ISIS in Irak. Ze zijn alleen minder goed bewapend, maar dat neemt wel rap toe. Het is al niet meer te winnen.quote:

One of the most contemptible and shameful side shows in every conflict is the frequency with which blood, exploitation, and human anguish are subordinated to profit. This is particularly reprehensible when the well-groomed, smooth-tongued brokers of this odious and sometimes deadly commerce claim to do so for the benefit of the worker, and on behalf of peace and security.
We have come to expect such sanctimonious duplicity from Russian President Vladimir Putin and his well-oiled, four-billion-dollar media machine, but what about all his eager U.S. and European enablers who are collaborating with him to strangle a nation that asks for nothing but to control its own destiny without outside interference?

Transparency is always important, and this is sadly wanting in the present situation where a close associate of Putin, targeted for US sanctions over, among other things, his active support for Russia’s annexation of the Crimea is being given a major role in negotiations. The same applies to Nestor Sufrych.
The authoritative newspaper Dzerkalo Tyzhnya reported on Saturday that a source close to ex-president Viktor Yanukovych had told them that Putin’s insistence on Medvedchuk’s role in the negotiations was partly aimed at getting Medvedchuk back into Ukrainian politics, by first making him governor of the Donetsk oblast, then bringing him back into parliament. Shufrych would be given governorship of the Luhansk oblast. These appointments, the source claimed, would be agreed at confidential discussions between Poroshenko and Putin.

Dat schrijft Financial Times zondag.
De uitgifte van leningen in buitenlandse valuta door Sberbank en Gazprombank schept hoop dat ook andere Russische bedrijven de weg naar de internationale markten weer weten te vinden.
Sberbank en Gazprombank schreven recent obligatieleningen uit in zogenoemde eurobonds, ieder ter waarde van zo'n 1 miljard euro. Het totaal is meer dan alle Russische bedrijven samen in de maanden maart, april en mei bij elkaar in buitenlandse leningen hebben uitgeschreven.
Oekrane
De uitgifte van Russische leningen in buitenlandse valuta stagneerde in het vroege voorjaar vrijwel volledig door de crisis rond de Krim en Oekrane.
Intussen zijn de bedrijven wel afhankelijk van buitenlands kapitaal om aan hun verplichtingen te kunnen voldoen en hun schulden te herfinancieren.

De Duitse bondskanselier Merkel en de Franse president Hollande hebben gisteravond telefonisch overleg gehad met de leiders van Rusland en Oekrane: Poetin en Porosjenko. Merkel en Hollande hebben er bij Rusland en Oekrane op aangedrongen om te voldoen aan de EU-voorwaarden voor Oekrane.
De EU wil onder meer waarnemers van de OVSE in Oekrane stationeren, die moeten toezien op een bestand. Ook hebben Merkel en Hollande nog eens benadrukt dat er controleposten langs de grens tussen Oekrane en Rusland moeten komen.
De afgelopen weken heeft de EU vaker overlegd met Oekrane en Rusland over de situatie in Oekrane. Tot concrete vooruitgang heeft dat niet geleid. Sinds april zijn bij de strijd tussen het Oekraense regeringsleger en pro-Russische opstandelingen al zeker 400 mensen omgekomen.
Wapenstilstand
Anderhalve week geleden werd door de Oekraense president Porosjenko eenzijdig een bestand afgekondigd en Rusland steunde dat. Maar het staakt-het-vuren wordt voortdurend geschonden.
De EU wil dat het bestand, dat vanavond afloopt, wordt verlengd.
Schieten
Gisteren demonstreerden in Kiev enkele honderden mensen die er niets voor voelen om de wapens te laten rusten. Het zijn leden van groepen die graag naar het oosten van Oekrane gaan om de strijd aan te binden met de separatisten. Ze willen dat president Porosjenko hen bewapent.

In het oosten van Oekrane is een cameraman doodgeschoten. Hij zat in een bus met moeders van militairen en kreeg een kogel in zijn buik toen hij de moeders wilde filmen. Het is niet duidelijk wie hem onder vuur heeft genomen.
De 68-jarige cameraman werkte voor de Russische publieke omroep Channel One. In de bus zaten meer journalisten, maar voor zover bekend is de cameraman van Channel One het enige slachtoffer. Hij werd in een auto naar het ziekenhuis gebracht waar hij stierf.
Het geweld in Oekrane heeft sinds april al aan vijf journalisten het leven gekost.
Ophalen
De moeders in de bus waren op weg naar een militaire basis om te eisen dat hun zonen uit het Oekraense leger werden ontslagen. Ze wilden hun zonen ophalen en meenemen naar huis.
EU leaders urge Ukraine to extend ceasefire
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande joined Vladimir Putin on Sunday in asking Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko to extend the truce in the country's troubled east, the Kremlin said in a statement issued after a four-way phone conference.
However, fighting flared on Sunday between Ukrainian forces and separatists around the eastern flashpoint city of Slaviansk despite the truce.
The talks came in the run-up to a Monday deadline that European Union leaders set for Russia and the separatists to take steps to ease the violence, warning that they were ready "at any time" to impose further punitive measures.
The European leaders encouraged the Ukrainian and Russian presidents to work on meeting the EU conditions, Hollande's office said in a statement. The EU's demands included:
- the return of three border checkpoints to Ukrainian control,
- verification of the ceasefire by monitors from the OSCE,
- free hostages and talks to put Poroshenko's peace plan in place.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has insisted that the ceasefire between the Ukrainian army and militants in eastern Ukraine, which has already been extended until 22.00 on June 30, be extended again, Deutsche Welle has reported.
"During a quadrilateral conversation between the presidents of Ukraine, France, Russia, and the German chancellor, [Russian President Vladimir] Putin spoke out this time for a long-term ceasefire. The Kremlin press service also says such a call was made during phone talks, while not specifying from whom it came," reads the statement.
The German chancellor, according to dpa, insisted that an OSCE mission be set up to monitor the Ukrainian-Russian border.

(Reuters) - Ukraine called on the President of Russia to strengthen control over the Russian side of the state border in order to stop the penetration into Ukraine of militants and mercenaries and supplies of weapons and armoured vehicles.
The European Union has threatened more penalties on Moscow beyond existing asset freezes and visa bans unless pro-Russian rebels act to ease the crisis in eastern Ukraine by Monday.
RISING ANGER
Poroshenko, under pressure from the West to keep up the ceasefire during talks with the rebels, is facing rising anger over the truce, which some Ukrainians say is only giving the rebels time to regroup and rearm.
Persisting violence has increased political pressure on Poroshenko, who promised to end the crisis in the east in a matter of weeks, to step up what he calls an anti-terrorism operation against the rebels.
Hundreds of people rallied in central Kiev on Sunday for Poroshenko to call an end to the ceasefire and boost operations in the two provinces, where separatists have seized state buildings and weapons arsenals.
SANCTIONS THREAT
Although it has drawn up a list of hard-hitting economic sanctions, the EU is still hesitating over deploying them because of fears among some member states of antagonising their major energy supplier.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Friday the EU expected progress within hours.
"If we don't see any steps forward on any of the points, then we are also prepared to take drastic measures," she said.
Ammunitions depot exploded on military base in Donetsk
Ammunitions depot on a military base in Donetsk was blown up at an order of Ukraine’s acting interim Interior minister Arsen Avakov. The man revealed the news personally late night Sunday.
According to his version of the incident, commanders of base No. 3037 of the ‘national guard’ that had sustained a three-months-long siege by the self-defence forces did not succumb to the demands of the latter “to lay down arms, to surrender and to cede control over the garrison depot of munitions to the Donetsk People’s Republic”.
Instead of this, the ‘national guardsmen’ under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Borteyev broke through the checkpoints of self-defense forces Sunday “on cars and with weapons in their hands,” Avakov went on.
Referring to the character of the explosion, he said that “watchdog timing devices went off” when self-defence fighters of self-defence forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic “tried to penetrate the ammunitions depot” of base No. 3307 of the so-called ‘national guard’.
“I gave the order to prevent a situation where they /the self-defence forces/ would get hold of the weaponry and munitions” still kept in the depot.
Reports also said that the approaches to the base had been sealed off and officials of the unrecognized self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic had arrived at the site of the incident.

Anatoly Klyan, 68, was fatally wounded in the stomach and died Sunday night. Along with a few other journalists, he had boarded a bus full of women – mostly mothers – who were traveling to a military base in Donetsk to demand that their sons be dismissed from the unit and allowed to go home.
Kiev armed forces opened fire as soon as the bus entered the territory of the military base, the driver immediately turned the bus back to escape the deadly shooting.
After the bus made it out of shooting range, the driver stopped the bus to wait for other journalists who were following in cars, said Evgeny Lyamin, Russia's Channel One TV correspondent, who was with Anatoly till his last moments.
“When we all got out of the bus, either of us were either calling home or their editors,” he said, “And in about a minute we saw a single flare in the sky and then the shooting started. Everyone ran toward the bus. They were shooting at the vehicle.”
People were trying to hide on the bottom of the bus to escape the shelling, shows a video, released on YouTube. The sounds of bullets are heard in the recording, which later displays the bus with several holes, allegedly from the bullets.

Met 'ondemocratische problematiek' doel ik op de gebeurtenissen 23 jaar geleden toen de Sovjet-Unie in elkaar klapte en mensen zonder dat hen iets werd gevraagd bij een 'nieuw land' werden ingedeeld.
Zoals in het geval van Oekraine heeft dat land noch bestaan, noch berhaupt bestaansrecht. Oekrane met de huidige landsgrenzen was niets meer dan een sovjet-administratieve regio. Een bijeenraapsel van regio's met totaal verschillende culturele, historische, etnische en sociale achtergronden.
Het gros van de miljoenen Sovjet-burgers die zich opeens in een politieke realiteit bevonden waar zij nooit om hadden gevraagd hadden werden ingedeeld in nieuw naties vaak vergezeld met discriminatoire, nationalistische bewegingen in die landen zelf. Dat is de kern van dit probleem.
Domweg miljoenen mensen wegzetten als separatisten/terroristen/pro-russische rebellen, zoals de Ukr-putschisten de afgelopen maanden hebben gedaan zorgt alleen voor een escalatie van het conflict.
De bezetting van Novorossija door de huidige Ukr-regering steunen maar de Russische bezetting van Polen/Baltische staten afkeuren is op z'n zachtst hypocriet te noemen.

Mensen hadden in een referendum, per regio, hun stem over eventuele zelfbeschikking moeten uitspreken. In de best case scenario hadden wij dan een aantal verschillende landen zien ontstaan die elk hun weg (welke die ook mag zijn) hadden kunnen gaan.
Het ironische aan dit alles is dat de regio's die het meest recent waren toegevoegd aan de Ukr SSR pretenderen over de ware oekranse identiteit te beschikken.
De oekraine heeft net zo min een toekomst en zal hetzelfde lot ondergaan als haar Afrikaanse en Midden-Oosterse koloniaal gecreerde zusterstaten.
Het enige wat dit land nog kan redden is verregaande federalisatie naar Zwitsers voorbeeld.
Ik geloof dat het Ukr-leger (NatsGwardia en huurlingenlegioenen van de oligarchen om precies te zijn) begonnen is bloed te vergieten. Een gurilla oorlog is niet te winnen zonder Oost-oekraine te veranderen in Grozny (Tsjetsjeni). De rebellen schieten op het leger vanuit de steden. Terugschieten betekent dat je schiet op de steden.
