A video of the destruction of Russian equipment during the assault was posted on the brigade’s official Telegram channel.

Yesterday, on August 10, the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, claimed that Ukrainian drones had allegedly entered Belarusian territory. He asserted that Belarusian air defense had destroyed about 10 drones, with the rest flying into Russia.

Lukashenko threatened that Belarus would not leave provocations unanswered. Following this, he ordered additional troops and equipment to be deployed to regions bordering Ukraine. The Belarusian defense minister stated that Polonez multiple launch rocket systems and Iskander missile systems would be sent to the Gomel and Mozyr regions.

Today, Belarus showcased tanks that are allegedly being sent to the border with Ukraine.

In the footage, which potentially represents an embarrassing fresh breach of Russia’s state border by the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s (AFU), five men in military uniform holding a Ukrainian and a Georgian flag can be seen in front of what appears to be the Poroz Farmers’ Club. One of the men introduces the group as soldiers from the AFU’s 252nd Territorial Defence Battalion.

While it was not possible to verify the video’s authenticity or confirm when it was made, the building shown in the footage does resemble images of the Poroz Farmers’ Club available online.

“On the one hand, we’ve all seen the video shot in front of the village hall, but on the other, residents who just left say that they hadn’t seen the enemy or heard any shooting”, Gladkov said, adding that local security forces would “need to investigate” what was going on and that he hoped that the situation would “stabilise by the end of the day”.

Gladkov also said that roads into Poroz had been closed as part of the counter-terror operation that was launched in the Belgorod, Kursk and Bryansk regions on Friday.

The howitzer, mounted on the MTS-15 Klever tracked platform, is equipped with a four-shot autoloader.

According to the information stand, the deployment and retraction of the combat vehicle takes only 30 seconds.

For reference, the deployment and folding time of the towed version of the D-30 is 1.5 to 2 minutes, including the time for firing, which is enough for counter-battery warfare.

The launcher has two types of transport and launch canisters (TLCs). It also lacks two 2A38 30mm guns.

The standard TLC (there are in total 7 on the launcher) belongs to the 95Ya6 or 95Ya6SM, which are typical for this system. The smaller TLCs (in total 20 on the launcher) may belong to the promising 19Ya6 anti-aircraft missile.

VK Video App Downloads Surge as YouTube Playback Speeds Plummet
The video streaming platform of the Russian social media company VK has seen a surge in downloads over the past week as playback speeds on YouTube plummet in an apparent attempt by the authorities to “throttle” the website.

“VK Video app downloads rose 4.5 times in the first week of August compared to July’s monthly average, reaching more than 250,000 [downloads] per day,” the state-run news agency TASS quoted the tech company’s press service as saying.

Apple’s App Store and Google Play also showed VK Video among their top downloaded apps, a significant increase after it remained outside the top 20 for the past two months.

Users across Russia began reporting problems with download speeds on YouTube last week after the authorities demanded that its owner Google restore around 200 pro-government channels. A prominent Russian lawmaker warned that the popular video platform’s loading speeds would drop by 70%.

Google denied Russia’s claims that the YouTube slowdown was “the result of any technical issues or actions on our part.” Russia’s state-owned telecom giant previously warned that Google’s withdrawal of equipment from the country would degrade the playback quality of YouTube videos.

Besides VK Video, another domestic YouTube alternative, RuTube, appeared among the top downloaded apps this week. Both VK and RuTube are under the control of Gazprom Media, a subsidiary of the state energy giant.

The Kremlin has tightened control over internet and media freedoms in recent years just as YouTube has become a vital platform for dissenting viewpoints in the country.

Russians who fled from a cross-border attack by Ukraine have described abandoning their homes and running for their lives as local government control collapsed.

Panic spread quickly through villages in the Kursk region, in southern Russia, as Kyiv’s forces staged the first foreign invasion of Russian soil since the Second World War last week.

“We don’t understand why they don’t tell the truth,” one woman told Russia’s Kommersant newspaper. “On TV, they kept saying, ‘this is an emergency’.

“What kind of emergency is it when there are foreign tanks on our land? This is already a real war.”

Other videos showed dozens of bodies of dead Russian soldiers strewn across fields or lying on the fringes of woodland.

Nikolai Volobuyev, head of the Belovsk District that neighbours Sudzha, also admitted that Ukrainian soldiers have now advanced into his region and ordered an evacuation.

“The situation is stable, but very tense. Today we don’t understand all the issues in the border areas,” he said.

The Russian defence ministry inadvertently confirmed this advance by reporting that its forces had engaged Ukrainian troops near two villages 20 miles from the border.

Russian soldiers were also spotted apparently building a new defensive line that included trenches around the Kursk nuclear power plant, 40 miles to the west of Kursk city.

A Ukrainian security official told the AFP news agency that “thousands” of soldiers had been involved in the attack, which has captured an estimated 600 square kilometres of Russian land.

“The aim is to stretch the positions of the enemy, to inflict maximum losses and to destabilise the situation in Russia,” he said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

It came amid reports that Russian forces had started a fire on a nuclear power station in Zaporizhzhia, southern Ukraine.

Ukrainian officials indicated that occupying soldiers had set fire to a large number of car tyres in the station’s cooling towers. A 20-second clip circulated on social media showed plumes of black smoke pouring from one of the two towers.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, accused Moscow of attempting to blackmail Ukraine as it pushed into Russian territory in the Kursk region, but said that radiation levels were at normal levels.

“However, as long as the Russian terrorists maintain control over the nuclear plant, the situation is not and cannot be normal,” he said.

“Since the first day of its seizure, Russia has been using the Zaporizhzhia NPP [nuclear power plant] only to blackmail Ukraine, all of Europe, and the world.

“We are waiting for the world to react, waiting for the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] to react. Russia must be held accountable for this.”

In scenes similar to those from across Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, tens of thousands of people have now fled the advance, pouring into Kursk city in cars, on bicycles and squashed into emergency buses, clutching a few bags of hastily-grabbed belongings.

Russian media reported that 20 evacuation centres had been set up for people fleeing the border region, but these quickly swelled to capacity.

In a video uploaded onto Telegram, a group of mainly middle-aged women who had fled from Sudzha described their terror – and their anger at officials.

“Foreign soldiers armed with Nato equipment entered our land and within a few hours our city was turned into ruins,” their spokesman said, ignoring a woman sobbing next to her. “We lost our land, our homes. We fled under fire, mainly without documents.”

Another man accused the Russian military of failing to protect the country. He said the evacuation had been chaotic and that people had been forced to flee “in their underwear and T-shirts”, with children “wrapped in rags”.

“In one cut-off village, people had to swim across a river as best they could,” he said.

In another video, a woman sitting on an evacuation bus said that she had to cower in the basement of her building overnight to survive the Ukrainian attack.

“Everything was burning, drones were flying, missiles were whistling. We were in the basement all night,” she said.
Another woman said that there had been total “chaos”.

“Everything was destroyed. We only barely managed to escape thanks to our neighbour who led us through the forest,” she said. “The Nazis’ armoured vehicles were driving around the streets firing at houses.”

Despite an edict by the Kremlin to its propaganda units to play down the Ukrainian attack, people’s shock and bewilderment leaked out across Russia’s usually pliant media.

In its lengthy article, Kommersant described how its correspondent had tried to reach Sudzha but had turned back because fighting was too fierce.

His report was reminiscent of scenes played out thousands of times across Ukraine since Russia’s invasion in February 2022.

“A jeep was completely smashed,” he wrote. A few minutes later, we noticed a white Niva [car] that had been blown into a ditch, also damaged by a drone attack. Another couple of hundred metres and another smashed jeep, right next to a religious cross,” the correspondent wrote.

“We then saw a burnt-out white car. The blow had been dealt recently, as the wreck was still smoking.”

People who had fled the fighting also told the Kommersant correspondent how their increasingly panicked phone calls to emergency hotlines went unanswered as the Ukrainian military advanced and their villages were destroyed.

“Two apartment buildings were destroyed on the central Lenin Street,” a woman said of Sudzha. “The prosecutor’s office building was badly damaged. The former sanitary and epidemiological station building was also damaged.”

They also said that they had been forced to leave old and disabled people behind in the rush to flee, despite a lack of food and running water in the town.

One woman said that she was ashamed of the Russian military, which she described as a “corrupt mess”.

“I thought we would take them, but it turns out they are taking us,” she said of the invasion of Ukraine. “Who made these plans anyway? Maybe we shouldn’t have sent the guys to Kiyv right away.”

The Ukrainian attack has also sent shockwaves beyond the Kursk region, deeper through the Russian system, with businessmen close to the Kremlin telling local media it has dealt “a very big blow” to the reputations of Vladimir Putin and the Russian military.

While hardcore Putin supporters living in St Petersburg and Moscow told The Telegraph that the Kremlin would shrug off the Ukrainian attack on the Kursk region and then “finish off Ukraine” as revenge, others said that people were becoming more wary.

One person living in a large Russian city said on condition of anonymity that work colleagues had discussed the attack and that they sounded “more afraid”.

“One of my acquaintances is on the way to Kursk now, her mum lives there and she wants to take her away because of the fighting,” the person said.

Ordinary Russians’ nervousness and accusations of incompetence and duplicity levelled at Valery Gerasimov, Russia’s top general, will alarm Putin who has relied on his usually hardcore propaganda to maintain public support for his war in Ukraine.

He has sent tanks, conscripts and mercenary units filled with hardened former Wagner fighters to Kursk to try and regain control of the border region.

According to news reports, Volodymyr Zelensky personally ordered the military incursion into Russia.

In a Telegram message to Ukrainians on Saturday night, the president acknowledged the attack as strategically important for the first time.

“Ukraine is proving that it really knows how to restore justice and guarantees exactly this kind of pressure is needed, pressure on the aggressor,” he said.

It has also given Ukrainians a major moral boost. In Ukraine, people have been celebrating, cheering on Ukrainian soldiers who they feel are giving ordinary Russians a “taste of their own medicine”.

“Combined with the F-16 arrivals, it is finally giving people something positive to talk about,” said a senior Western aid worker based in Kyiv.

“They love it.”

Every day the Russians don’t counterattack is a day the Ukrainians dig in deeper.

On the sixth day of Ukraine’s advance into Kursk Oblast in southern Russia, there’s growing evidence the Ukrainian invasion corps—some or all of up to five 2,000-person brigades plus at least one 400-person independent battalion—plans to stay.

The Ukrainians are digging trenches. Anticipating static warfare along or near the existing front line, the Russians are digging in, too.

That both sides are fortifying their positions doesn’t mean the Ukrainians are done advancing. Nor does it mean the Russians can’t counterattack—and push the Ukrainians back to the border, 10 miles away.

But it does mean that stabilization of the front line—and a long-term Ukrainian occupation of part of Kursk—is on the table.

Russian military correspondent Aleksandr Kharchenko observed Ukrainian forces digging trenches in Kursk on Sunday. He described it as “the worst thing that can happen,” according to a translation of his missive by Estonian analyst War Translated.

Ukrainian sources have spotted industrial excavators at work on both sides of the front line.

“Once the enemy picks up shovels, in two days it will be just as difficult to take the forest stands as it was near Avdiivka” in eastern Ukraine, Kharchenko added. It took the Russian military six months to roll back Ukrainian defenses in Avdiivka—and cost it tens of thousands of casualties.

Unless, of course, the Kremlin can organize a powerful counterattack before the Ukrainian trenches are complete. But “the window of opportunity is rapidly closing,” Kharchenko warned—and Ukrainian attacks are blocking Russian reinforcements trying to reach the Kursk front line.

Russian columns “are met by Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups, drones and artillery,” wrote Artur Rehi, an Estonian soldier and analyst.

If and when it stabilizes, the Kursk salient could become another major front in Russia’s 29-month wider war on Ukraine.

The Ukrainians have already positioned potentially more than 10,000 troops in Kursk and the adjacent Ukrainian oblast, Sumy. And according to the Ukrainian Center for Defense Strategies, Russia’s Northern Grouping of Forces is trying to move 10 to 11 battalions to the front line—perhaps 4,000 troops in all.

Those 10 or so Russian battalions are just the initial echelon, however. On paper, the Northern Grouping of Forces oversees 48,000 troops. Many of them are bogged down in Vovchansk, the locus of Russia’s own attack across the Russia-Ukraine border that kicked off in May.

But if it gives up trying to advance in Vovchansk and other front-line towns and cities, the Russian military could shift significant forces to Kursk. Indeed, compelling the Russians to deplete their forces along other fronts may have been the Ukrainian invasion corps’ main objective.

Kyiv is probably trying to “divert some of the Russian attention and Russian troops stationed in the eastern parts of Ukraine,” France 24’s Emmanuelle Chaze noted, citing Ukrainian sources.

Once the trenches are complete, that diversion could become long-term—if not permanent.

As Ukraine’s foreign minister completes his latest tour of Africa, his country risks paying a serious diplomatic price for helping separatist rebels in northern Mali inflict a severe defeat on the Russian military operator Wagner at the end of last month.

The ambush at Tinzaouten on 27 July reportedly killed 84 Wagner fighters and 47 Malian soldiers.

It was a painful military blow for the mercenary outfit once headed by the late Yevgeny Prigozhin, but now controlled by Russia’s official defence command structure.

Just two days later Andriy Yusov, spokesman for Kyiv’s military intelligence service (GUR), said that ethnic Tuareg rebels in Mali had “received necessary information, and not just information, which enabled a successful military operation against Russian war criminals”.

Subsequent reports suggested that Ukrainian special forces had trained the separatists in the use of attack drones.
Yet for many Africans, this was yet another case of outside powers exploiting the continent as a bloody playing field for their own rivalries.

Predictably, Mali’s ruling military junta, and the allied regime in neighbouring Niger, protested by breaking off diplomatic relations with Kyiv.

The anger will have been strengthened by suggestions that some jihadist militants joined the Tuareg separatists in mounting the Tinzaouaten attack.

The Senegalese foreign ministry summoned the Ukrainian ambassador in Dakar to protest after he posted a Facebook video about Mr Yusov’s gloating comments.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba was touring Malawi, Zambia and Mauritius last week. But after the harsh words from Ecowas and Senegal he may now have to engage in some serious fence-mending in West Africa.

What many sub-Saharan African governments - even those that privately mistrust Moscow - will probably view as Kyiv’s unhelpful outside military adventurism could dispel the goodwill so painstakingly cultivated over the past two years through peaceful Ukrainian diplomacy.

Of course in narrow military terms, helping to inflict the heaviest-ever African defeat on Wagner was a success for the Ukrainians.

The mercenary contractor - now officially renamed Corps Africa after being brought under Russian state control - had doubled its manpower to an estimated 2,000 in Mali over the past two years.

So news of the heavy losses in Tinzaouaten came as a shock, particularly given that the Malian army and Wagner forces had seized Kidal, the Tuareg rebel “capital”, last November.

The Tinzaouaten incident has signalled the separatists’ return to the offensive –with, it soon became clear, the support of a new partner.

Kyiv’s hints of direct involvement confirm how far it is prepared to reach in taking its fightback against Russia’s President Vladimir Putin well beyond the home battlefield.

In fact this is not the first such direct intervention against Wagner military operations in Africa.

There were strong indications that last August and September Ukrainian special forces carried out drone raids in Sudan in support of the military regime led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.

For more than a year, it has been engaged in a brutal power struggle with its former allies the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by Gen Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, better known as "Hemedti", who has been assisted by Wagner.

Some Ukrainian military commentators, such as Evgeniy Dikiy, former commander of Ukraine’s Aidar battalion, depict their country’s reported African military interventions very much in terms of a battle for survival after Russian forces invaded in February 2022.

Mr Dikiy has argued that Kyiv has no Africa policy but does have scores to settle with Russia and Wagner in particular.

But the administration of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky may not see things in quite such simplistic terms.

For it knows that the fightback against Moscow is not only conducted on the battlefield. Diplomacy and trade matter too.

And in the immediate aftermath of the 2022 invasion, Kyiv was painfully reminded of this truth, particularly in regards to Africa.

In the UN General Assembly on 2 March that year, only 28 of the 54 African member states voted to condemn the invasion.

While only a few close allies of Moscow actually voted in support of Russia’s action, many other African governments, including some generally perceived as firmly pro-Western, actively abstained or absented themselves from the vote.

And later, when President Putin pulled out of the deal allowing both Ukrainian and Russia grain exports - many destined for Africa - to safely transit through the Black Sea, many sub-Saharan governments chose to view this setback in neutral terms rather than blaming Moscow.

While that particular issue has faded in significance, because Ukraine has largely recovered its freedom to ship grain after striking the Russian Black Sea fleet, the foreign ministry team in Kyiv has remained convinced of the need to rebuild their political and economic networks across Africa.

Mr Kuleba has now made four African tours. And while his campaign to earn goodwill and build partnerships south of the Sahara has not always advanced without a hitch - hopes of being received by President Cyril Ramaphosa during a visit to South Africa late last year were disappointed - there have also been important successes.

Zambia, for example, attended the Ukraine Peace Summit in Switzerland in June and, unlike some other participants, did sign the final communiqu� (whose terms satisfied Kyiv).

And last week Mr Kuleba visited the Zambian capital, Lusaka, where he was received by President Hakainde Hichilema.

In reaching out to African countries now, Ukraine is seeking to make up for the diplomatic ground lost during the first three decades after its independence when it was largely preoccupied with its internal affairs.

While Russia inherited the worldwide diplomatic presence of the old Soviet Union, newly independent nations such as Ukraine had to build up their networks from scratch.

With limited resources, over 30 years Kyiv managed to open only eight embassies across the entire African continent - in Algeria, Angola, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa.

But after being so uncomfortably reminded in 2022 of the need to win friends and influence people, Kyiv is pushing rapidly to expand its coverage, aiming to build a 20-embassy African network, with the first 10 extra missions already announced.

April saw Kyiv’s special envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Maksym Soubkh, in Abidjan to open the embassy in Ivory Coast.

And Kyiv is proposing more than diplomatic co-operation.

Eight sub-Saharan countries have already benefitted from its “Grain from Ukraine” food aid initiative.

It also plans to build up its development assistance, strengthen two-way trade and provide more university places for African students.

Contentious military adventures targeting Russian mercenaries look an ill-judged risk that could jeopardise all the diplomatic goodwill and economic returns that Ukraine hopes to gain from its broad-based positive sub-Saharan strategy.

The Russian Defense Ministry published videos claiming to show successful strikes against Ukrainian forces in Kursk Oblast, but the videos were filmed in other locations and at other times, the Russian independent news outlet the Insider reported on Aug. 10.

The Ukrainian military launched a surprise incursion across the border on Aug. 6, bringing regular Ukrainian forces into Russia for the first time. Ukraine has continued to advance, triggering a state of emergency and "counter-terrorism operation" in Russia.

The Russian Defense Ministry and state-controlled media circulated videos that they alleged show Russian forces defeating Ukrainian troops in the region. A video published Aug. 9 claimed to show Russian troops carrying out strikes against the Ukrainian military in bordering Sumy Oblast in response to the Kursk incursion.

The video was in fact first posted weeks before the offensive, the Insider reported. The Russian state media outlet TASS published the video on July 14.

Another video published Aug. 10 by the Russian state outlet RIA Novosti claimed to show Russian helicopters striking Ukrainian personnel and armored vehicles in Kursk Oblast with S-13 airborne missiles.

The problem with this claim is that the video was filmed in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, according to the Insider. Screenshots of the defense ministry's videos show facilities and territories that recognizably belong to Chasiv Yar and Kreminna.

The day after Ukraine launched its offensive, Valery Gerasimov, Russia's commander of the war against Ukraine, said that Kyiv's attempts to push deep into Kursk Oblast were "stopped," and that "the operation will end with the rout of the enemy and the return to the state border."

While the Russian Defense Ministry has tried to downplay the effectiveness of Ukraine's incursion, it also admitted on Aug. 11 that Ukrainian forces had reached the villages Tolpino and Obshchy Kolodez, which are around 25 and 30 kilometers from the Russia-Ukraine border.

Starting 1 September, Russian schools will be teaching students about the "heroic deeds" of Russian soldiers in the war against Ukraine, as well as other figures regarded as heroes by the aggressor country.

Details: The Russian list of "Our Heroes" features militant Arsen Pavlov, known as Motorola, who was blown up in a lift, and propagandist Daria Dugina, who was blown up in a car.

According to Russian media reports, the new curriculum has been made available on the Unified Content of General Education website.

The Russian Federation recommends that students study the works of writers Mykola Hohol [the Ukrainian-born writer better known as Nikolai Gogol] and Anton Chekhov, poets Alexander Pushkin and Fyodor Tyutchev, composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky, and others.

From the Soviet period, the Ministry of Education has chosen "heroes" such as Marshals Georgy Zhukov and Konstantin Rokossovsky, "saboteur" Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya, and other military figures from the Red Army.

Also on the Russians’ list is the renowned Ukrainian designer and rocket builder Serhii Korolov, who was responsible for the first spacewalk.

Korolov was a pioneer of practical cosmonautics and the USSR's first head designer of rocket and space technologies – but he had previously spent six years in Soviet forced labour camps.

In 1938, the Soviet authorities imprisoned him in the Gulag in Kolyma, later transporting him to Moscow. Korolov collaborated with aircraft designer Andrei Tupolev – also a victim of Stalin's terror – on the development of jet engines, and it was not until 1944 that he was granted an early release from prison.

Previously: Russian media reported that Dmitry Medvedev has suggested that Russian schools should be renamed after veterans of the "special military operation".

Ukraine’s attack on the borderline Kursk Region is expected to be among the focal points at the meeting.

A massive attack by the Ukrainian military on the Kursk Region began on August 6. A missile warning has been repeatedly issued in region. As a result of artillery bombardments and attacks by Ukrainian troops at least five residents of the Kursk Region were killed, and more than 30 people, including nine children were injured. Thirty-four injured people, including five children, are being treated in hospitals. Local residents are being evacuated to other Russian regions, including Moscow and the Moscow Region.

The Defense Ministry has said that over the past 24 hours, Battlegroup North together with the Federal Security Service (FSB) prevented the Ukrainian forces’ advance and attempts to break through in the Sudzha and Korenevo districts of the Kursk Region. Kiev has lost 660 troops and 82 armored vehicles since the beginning of hostilities in the Kursk Region.

The author of the video claims that he filmed it in the village of Oktyabrskoe. Russian Z-bloggers also reported on the ambushed military convoy allegedly after the strike by the Armed Forces.

The video with the crushed column of Russian equipment was shot near the village of Oktyabrskoe, near Rylsk, the department of the Russian service BBC Verify confirmed later.

490 "KIA" personnel were counted in the broken column, the editor-in-chief of Censor.NET Yuriy Butusov stated on Aug. 10, with reference to the Khorne Group unit of the 116th separate mechanized brigade.

The systems were donated by the Come Back Alive Foundation as part of a joint project with the OKKO filling station chain called Eye for Eye 3.

The Pulstron reconnaissance and strike systems have been put into service with the 77th Airmobile Brigade and the 79th Separate Tavrian Air Assault Brigade.

The Come Back Alive Foundation noted that in this way they, together with OKKO filling station chain and Ukrainians, had provided the command of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces with five out of 10 Pulstron reconnaissance and strike systems.

• reusable FPVs with reset system and digital video communication: 10 units.

The system also includes car portable radios, as well as Starlink kits.

Among the vehicles, Mitsubishi L200 pickups or their equivalent, and night vision devices for drivers are being transferred.

In total, UAH 500 million are being collected within the framework of the “EYE FOR AN EYE 3” project. This amount is needed to provide the units of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces with 10 Pulstron reconnaissance and strike systems at once.

Ukraine's deputy energy minister Oleksandr Kheilo was arrested on corruption charges, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported on Aug. 12.

While the SBU said only that a deputy energy minister had been arrested and did not mention Kheilo by name, Ukrainska Pravda soon confirmed that he was the individual in question.

The official portal of Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers later reported that Kheilo had been dismissed from his position.

According to the SBU, Kheilo allegedly demanded bribes from representatives of a state-owned coal company to facilitate the transfer of mining equipment from near the frontline hotspot of Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast, where fighting is currently ongoing, and then transport it to the Lviv-Volyn region in western Ukraine.

Kheilo allegedly involved three other accomplices in his corruption scheme—an independent energy trader, the head of an energy company in Mykolaiv Oblast, and the head of a mining company in Donetsk Oblast.

The SBU documented several tranches of bribe payments, and the individuals in question were reportedly caught "red-handed."

The four conspirators have been charged with receiving a bribe and face up to 12 years in prison if convicted.

In a post on its official website, the Energy Ministry said it was cooperating with law enforcement authorities to "ensure an objective investigation and establish all the circumstances of the offense."

There are traces of destruction at the Sudzha gas metering station, which came under the control of Ukraine during the Kursk operation at the beginning of August 2024, reported Radio Svoboda.

Satellite photos available to the outlet show that some of the damage appeared between August 9 and 10, and some between August 10 and 11.

The Sudzha gas metering station is located close to the Russian-Ukrainian border, and therefore came under the control of Ukraine from the very beginning of the operation, although this was confirmed only on August 8.

The photo from August 11 shows that one of the administrative buildings of the station, as well as one of the platforms where the equipment is installed, was almost completely destroyed.

At the same time, on Monday morning, Gazprom claimed that it continues pumping gas through Sudzha to Europe in the usual volume.

Since May 2022 , Ukraine has stopped gas transit through the Sokhranivka gas metering station as a result of the Russian occupation of the northern part of Luhansk Oblast. After that, the transit takes place only through the Sudzha gas station, which is the only working point of entry of Russian gas into the territory of Ukraine.

Gas futures in Europe reacted to the events in Kursk Oblast by increasing to levels not seen since December 2023.

As previously reported, the Ukrainian company Skyeton, which produces ACS-3 (Raybird-3) reconnaissance systems, has launched production in Slovakia.

The production of Raybird drones in Slovakia started in the spring of 2024, with the company renting a 1000 sq m facility. The company invested $3.5 million to launch the production.

The Slovak plant is capable of building 25 reconnaissance systems per year, and after the investment round is closed, the capacity will be quadrupled. Skyeton is currently attracting $15 million in investments for the expansion.

Due to martial law, Raybird systems cannot be exported abroad, and the final price is limited to a 25% markup. In addition, development costs cannot be included in the price. The plant in Slovakia is not subject to these restrictions and opens up more opportunities in the global market.

Afunanya did not say if the Poles being detained were participating in the protests when they were arrested, nor was there any evidence of their involvement presented at the meeting.

The University of Warsaw confirmed those detained were students and a lecturer who were in Nigeria for a study trip organized by the university, according to the Polish state news agency PAP.

The students “found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Polish deputy foreign minister Andrzej Szejna told PAP. The Poles were not carrying any flags, Szejna said, but added, “It seems they were taking photos and this had been interpreted in this way.”

Ukrainian handlers with their highly trained dogs are to be deployed to clear landmines and unexploded ordnance across the country in a project.

16 Belgian Malinois will be the first technical survey dogs to be deployed in Ukraine. Together with their eight Ukrainian female handlers, they underwent extensive training in Cambodia for five months before returning to Ukraine.

The new initiative is funded by a �2 million grant from the European Commission’s Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI).

Many of the dog handlers had previously studied dog training. During their dog handler course, they have also been trained in manual demining.

The project is being jointly implemented by humanitarian mine action organisations APOPO, which specialises in the deployment of animals for landmine clearance, and the Mines Advisory Group (MAG).

The dogs will be used to supplement MAG’s manual and mechanical clearance efforts in liberated Ukrainian territories, including in the Mykolaiv, Kherson and Kharkiv regions.

The dog teams will help improve the speed and precision with which MAG can identify contaminated areas, especially in communities with dense vegetation or challenging terrain.

“In certain conditions, technical survey dog teams are able to survey large tracts of land much more quickly than human deminers, identifying explosive items and helping to confirm whether land is safe,” the statement said.

When the dog teams find a landmine or unexploded item of ordnance, MAG’s deminers will be tasked with making the item safe.

Large areas of Ukraine are currently contaminated with landmines and unexploded ordnance, including cluster munitions, but these areas are gradually being cleared.

Russian special services are reportedly trying to exploit the situation in Kursk Oblast to falsely accuse the Ukrainian military of war crimes, with the possibility of provocations, according to a statement from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

"The Security Service of Ukraine is recording attempts by Russian special services to use the situation in Kursk Oblast for baseless accusations against Ukrainian defenders of committing war crimes," the statement reads.

To achieve this, Russia is creating and spreading fake news and false information that "have nothing to do with reality," law enforcement officials added.

Russian special services may soon stage crimes against civilians in Kursk Oblast to blame Ukraine, according to Ukrainian intelligence.

The SBU said these attempts are futile and will not affect the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces or the international community's attitude. Ukrainian military continues to adhere to the rules of war, particularly regarding the treatment of prisoners and civilians, law enforcement officials assured.

The man was born in the Kaluga region of the Russian Federation. He is a Russian citizen with a residence permit in Ukraine who has been living in Kharkiv. He is married and retired.

The Ukrainian unit operating the British Stormer HVM anti-aircraft system has already managed to hit 70 air targets.

Soldiers of the 1129th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment say they have managed to do this in two years of full-scale war.

“I’ve been serving since 2022, and since then the unit has destroyed 70 drones: Zala, Supercam, Orlan-10, Orlan-30, Merlin-VR,” said the Stormer HVM operator.

In addition to the skill of the operators, this result was achieved thanks to the use of laser-guided anti-aircraft missiles, which, unlike missiles with an infrared seeker, do not need to lock on the target by thermal signature.

The UK government announced the transfer of these systems to Ukraine in April 2022. Hundreds of Starstreak missiles have also been delivered for these systems.
