quote:Sanction Circumvention: Russia Ramps Up Su-35 Production Despite Microchip Ban, Reveals Satellite Analysis
In the face of Western sanctions aimed at curtailing Russia’s access to essential microchips and semiconductor parts, Russia has demonstrated its capability to sustain and potentially escalate the production of Su-35 fighter jets. This assertion is backed by detailed satellite surveillance of a Komsomolsk-on-Amur factory conducted by SpaceKnow, a Czech tech firm employing advanced AI for satellite image analysis. Despite a supposed shortage of microchips due to sanctions, the production of Su-35 aircraft has notably increased, as evidenced by satellite imagery showing a rise in the number of jets at the facility, from a mere two in 2020 to 29 fully assembled planes by October 2023.
This surge in production aligns with Russia’s ambitions, underscored by Deputy General Director of Rostech’s public claims of doubling Su-35 production efforts. This development occurs despite international sanctions and highlights a significant breach in enforcing these sanctions. Russia continues to obtain critical Western-made microchips through third countries like Turkey, Kazakhstan, and the UAE, amounting to around $1.2 billion in components from major Western firms.
The situation underscores the urgent need to address the loopholes in current sanctions regimes and halt the indirect financing of military advancements that could be used in terroristic actions, such as the ongoing aggression against Ukraine. It is imperative to strengthen international oversight and enforcement mechanisms to prevent Russia from acquiring technology that supports its military capabilities, thereby cutting off a crucial funding source that could support aggression acts or terrorism.

In Russia, work is ongoing on a TOS-3 new heavy flamethrower system.
Militarnyi reported about this.
Recently, the Russian plant – the developer of the Omsktransmash system registered a new trademark.
The new multiple rocket launcher was named TOS-3 Drakon (Dragon – ed.).
It is created on the basis of existing TOS-1 and TOS-2 systems, which Russians are actively using in the war with Ukraine.
A possible schematic image of the future flamethrower system was published on the network.
Judging by the image, the TOS-3 will be based on a tank tracked chassis, like its predecessors TOS-1 and the TOS-1A Solntsepek, while the launcher will be borrowed from the TOS-2 Tosochka, which has its own ammunition loading mechanism that facilitates reloading.
According to the image, each Drakon launcher will be able to launch 15 unguided rockets with an incendiary or thermobaric warhead.
It is currently unknown at what stage the project is located and how long it will take occupiers to implement it and possibly establish serial production.
Russians are actively using the TOS-1A Solntsepyok against the Defense Forces of Ukraine. This system is forced to approach very close to the front line due to the fact that its maximum range of fire is only 6 kilometers.
The Ukrainian military has repeatedly destroyed and captured these flamethrower systems and their transport and load vehicles.
Russians also use a wheeled version of the TOS-2 Tosochka MRL, which is made on the basis of a Ural-63706 truck with a 6×6 wheel arrangement. Unlike TOS-1 and TOS-1A that use tracked chassis of the T-72 or T-90 tanks respectively.

Russian hackers targeted several prominent Ukrainian media outlets on Sunday and spread misinformation about the Ukrainian withdrawal from the Donetsk region city of Avdiivka, the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine has said in a statement.
Ukraine’s Computer Emergency Response Team launched an investigation following attacks on outlets Ukrainska Pravda, Liga.net, Apostrof and Telegraf, which the statement called a continuation of “Russia’s information war against our country”.
The hackers posted now-deleted news items on the affected outlets’ websites and social media claiming that Russia had defeated “elite Ukrainian Army divisions” at Avdiivka and that, having lost over 1,500 soldiers, Ukrainian forces were “fleeing in panic, abandoning equipment and wounded troops,” Apostrof reported.
Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation called on readers “not to succumb to such enemy provocations” and to trust only official Ukrainian military sources.
The attacks came after Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi announced the Ukrainian Army’s withdrawal from Avdiivka on Saturday “to avoid encirclement and preserve the lives and health of servicemen,” as well as to “move to defence on more favourable lines”.
Russian state media has since celebrated what it called the “liberation” of Avdiivka, which had been a frontline city since 2014, as the Russian Army’s most significant breakthrough since it captured the nearby city of Bakhmut in May.

Arms scandal shakes Pistorius ministry
Boris Pistorius's (SPD) Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) is being criticized for an explosive arms deal.
According to BILD research, there were massive inconsistencies in a deal between the Ministry of Defense and the Flensburg arms manufacturer FFG in the summer of 2023.
The biggest questions in the room:
▶︎ Did Germany buy the vehicles at far overpriced prices?
▶︎ Were the vehicles – contrary to what was promised – not actually manufactured in Germany?
▶︎ Do the vehicles actually deliver what they promise from a military perspective?
The deal
On June 2, 2023, in response to a BILD request, the BMVg confirmed that Germany would deliver 66 “protected infantry combat vehicles” to Ukraine. According to BILD information, both the German arms company Rheinmetall and its competitor FFG applied for the contract.
The BMVg's statement said: "After evaluating the existing offers, the choice fell on the product from FFG as the most economical solution, which is also available quickly." The name of the product: "FFG Armored Personnel Carrier (FFG APC)".
Since October 2023 ( as of today ), according to the federal government , Ukraine has received 48 of the 66 promised armored vehicles
The armor
According to BILD research, the vehicles are unsuitable for front-line deployment in Ukraine or even for use in “combat,” as the name “infantry combat vehicle” used by the BMVg suggests.
The reason: their armor is far too weak.
Unlike “infantry combat vehicles” or “infantry combat vehicles” common in Bundeswehr service, the vehicles delivered to Ukraine do not have mine and fragment protection against artillery, rocket and mortar fire (STANAG Level II a+b or higher).
Instead, the “German” vehicles in a war dominated by explosive weapons will only be delivered with “protection against small arms” (protection class B6, comparable to STANAG Level II), as a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense confirmed to BILD.
A circumstance that shocks military expert Carlo Masala, professor at the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich, “since the lightly armored variant offers little protection against the heavy fire that these vehicles are exposed to at the front.”
Masala told BILD: “If it turns out that only the lightly armored variant was delivered to Ukraine, it will be a crystal clear procurement scandal. Savings were made here at the expense of lives.”
The Defense Ministry, however, says that “increased protection against mines was not requested by Ukraine at that time.”
A high-ranking Ukrainian official contradicts this. “Of course we would have liked to receive mine-protected vehicles,” he tells BILD. “But the Germans didn’t have a choice,” said the official, who wished to remain anonymous. They were therefore satisfied with the lightly armored variant. “For tasks far away from the front,” said the official.
Government circles also say that FFG's offer was communicated as an “alternative to Rheinmetall's 'Fuchs'. Of course we assumed that the offer would come with mine protection like the fox.”
▶︎ But it's not just the vehicles' far too little armor that raises questions.
The place of manufacture
Last June, the Federal Ministry of Defense told BILD: “The contractor, the company FFG, is equipping the 66 contractually agreed vehicles in Germany as a licensed construction company.”
In response to another BILD request, the BMVg announced in February 2024: “The procedure as a licensed construction was explained by the FFG company as part of the project planning. Manufacture/supply of the chassis by Ford, USA. Manufacture of the body components by “The Armored Group”, USA, delivery of the components to Germany and final assembly in Germany to enable the value chain in Germany.”
But documents and statements from arms insiders available to BILD say something completely different.
Accordingly, FFG passed the order on to the German division of the US defense company “The Armored Group” called “TAG Germany”. Through several intermediaries in the United States, the order finally ended up with “TAG Middle East”, a weapons company in the United Arab Emirates.
According to BILD information, the factory there built all 66 “FFG APC” or better “BATT UMG”, as the vehicles are actually called, and delivered the finished vehicles to Ukraine - possibly with a stopover in Flensburg. According to information from defense circles and internal documents that BILD was able to see, not a single vehicle was manufactured in Germany.
In response to a BILD query, the Federal Ministry of Defense said: “The BMVg has no information that these agreements are not being adhered to.”
▶︎ The BMVg-FFG deal is also extremely questionable when it comes to the costs (for the German taxpayer).
The price
BILD was able to view the purchase contract of a BATT UMG customer. It shows that the vehicles delivered from Germany to Ukraine have a unit price of 185,000 to 208,000 euros.
A publicly available press release from “The Armored Group” from June 2022 also shows that, even including transport and with a destination in Ukraine, you no longer have to pay 215,000 euros per vehicle .
Secret documents from the Federal Ministry of Defense (VS - For Official Use Only) show, however, that the Federal Ministry of Defense paid FFG a "unit price of EUR 600,000 per vehicle" - around EUR 40 million in total.
A discrepancy that causes CDU defense expert Roderich Kiesewetter to shake his head.
Kiesewetter said to BILD: If it turns out that poor-quality armored vehicles were purchased and delivered to Ukraine at almost three times the usual market price, that would be doubly problematic. Firstly, scarce transition funds are being burned unnecessarily. Secondly, this is done on the backs and endangerment of Ukrainian soldiers.”
While the Ministry of Defense did not want to confirm the unit price of 600,000 euros to BILD, a spokesman explained: "The price-performance ratio for the entire system, which is ready for use, was assessed as justified as part of a plausibility check."
▶︎ Kiesewetter nevertheless calls for “both an internal investigation of the business transaction and an audit by the Federal Audit Office” in order to clarify the difference between the market price and the price paid of more than 25 million euros.
In addition, against this background of the BMVg-FFG deal, it is “still highly questionable why the federal government refuses to deliver 100 available FUCHS armored transport vehicles and instead releases less protected vehicles”.
BILD confronted both the “Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft” (FFG) and three other involved TAG Group companies with the research results. So far, however, without any reaction.

quote:The shooting of Ukrainian prisoners in Avdiivka: the Armed Forces revealed the details of the Russian attack on the Zenit position
The withdrawal of the Ukrainian military from the "Zenith" position on the outskirts of Avdiyivka took place under conditions of continuous bombardment by enemy aircraft. During the negotiations, the enemy agreed to evacuate the wounded soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and exchange them in the future.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Corporal General Mark Bezruchka on Facebook.
"The withdrawal of the personnel of the 110th Brigade from Avdiyivka took place under the conditions of continuous bombardment by enemy aircraft and artillery fire, constant attacks by fpv drones, attacks on evacuation vehicles, fire on evacuation routes. It was not possible to evacuate several seriously wounded and dead servicemen," the message said.
Due to the rapid and large-scale offensive of the Russians, the "Zenith" stronghold was surrounded. Therefore, it was decided to contact the coordination center and the organizations that are negotiating with the enemy side. It was stipulated that the Ukrainian military would be provided with assistance in accordance with international rules of warfare and laws protecting prisoners of war.
At the same time, the Russians informed the coordinators of this process that they agree to evacuate the Ukrainian wounded and provide them with assistance, and in the future - to exchange them. That is why Ukrainian servicemen were ordered to save their lives.
"We found out what happened next from enemy resources. In the video released by the enemy from the captured position of Zenit, relatives identified Georgy Pavlov, Andriy Dubnytskyi, and Ivan Zhitnyk as the dead. According to our data, the enemy also shot Oleksandr Zinchuk and Mykola Savosik. Information about the sixth fighter has not yet been confirmed, most likely he was from the dowry unit," the brigade said.
They also said that the Russian Armed Forces are terrorists and war criminals who shot the unarmed wounded. The relevant authorities will conduct an investigation and establish the truth about the violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder.
The situation in Avdiivka
According to the prosecutor's office, on February 18, one of the Telegram channels published a message about the shooting of 6 prisoners of the Armed Forces at one of the positions in Avdiivka. The defenders were seriously injured and were waiting for evacuation.
The situation in Vesely
In addition to the previous one, a video recording with a fragment of the killing of 2 more soldiers near the village of Vesele, Bakhmut district, was also discovered.
The recording from the drone camera shows how, during the assault on our positions, representatives of the Russian Armed Forces shoot at close range, first at one captured soldier of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, and then at the second.
"Not wanting to leave the captives alive, the occupier deliberately kills them with automatic weapons," the prosecutor's office emphasized.
Shooting of prisoners
It will be recalled that earlier it became known that the Russian military shot 6 captured Ukrainian soldiers in the process of leaving the "Zenit" position in Avdiivka. At the same time, Brigadier General, commander of the operational and strategic group of troops "Tavria" Oleksandr Tarnavskyi stated that the Defense Forces were withdrawing from the "Zenith" position on the outskirts of Avdiivka.
According to him, the decision to leave was made in order to preserve personnel and improve the operational situation.
Withdrawal of the Armed Forces from Avdiivka
On the night of February 17, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi announced the decision to withdraw Ukrainian troops from Avdiivka, which was under threat of being surrounded by the enemy.
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, President Zelenskyi called the decision to withdraw troops from Avdiyivka correct and professional, but criticized allies for improper assistance to Ukraine, which led to such a situation.

Let us remind you that as part of an investigation by the Guildhall news agency , it was established that Polish carriers who blocked checkpoints on the Polish-Ukrainian border demanding “fair competition” interact with persons with ties to the Russian Federation . Russian influence has also been established through similar events in Slovakia.
Thus, the official organizer of blocking the Polish border with Ukraine is Polish citizen Rafał Mekler , owner of the transport company Rafał Mekler Transport. Rafal Makler is a representative of the cell of the pro-Russian party “Confederation of Freedom and Independence” in the Lublin Voivodeship, which has close ties with Russia. In particular, the leader of the party, Janusz Korwin-Mikke, made calls for recognition of the occupation of Crimea and himself visited the annexed peninsula in 2015, where he met with the head of the Russian occupation administration of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov.
The organizers of the action in Slovakia were representatives of the public organization “Union of Road Carriers of Slovakia” (UNAS). The action was supported by the anti-European right-wing radical party “Our Slovakia,” which advocates “restoring friendly ties” with Russia, whose leader, Slovak politician Marian Kotleba, wrote a letter to the former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych in 2014 , where he compared the Revolution of Dignity with terrorism.
Let us remind you that on the Polish-Ukrainian border, carriers continue to block checkpoints demanding the return of the system for issuing permits to Ukrainians to work in the EU, despite the fact that the European Commission has already stated that the implementation of such requirements is not legally possible.

quote:Ukraine Introduces STABNET Mobile Medical Aid Post for Battlefield Care
A STABNET mobile medical aid post in which the wounded military should be rescued was presented in Kyiv.
Militarnyi reported about this.
According to medical teams, today a large percentage of wounded soldiers die on the way to stationary medical aid posts.
The developers of the STABNET project propose to solve this difficult task by deploying a mobile network of mobile medical aid posts on the front lines.
Light, mobile medical aid posts equipped with modern equipment should form a new emergency network close to the active combat areas.
This should, in addition to stationary medical aid posts, provide an opportunity to reduce the time of emergency assistance for the injured and therefore increase their chances of survival.
STABNET is 2.5 meters wide and 6 meters long and weighs only 3 tons. The developers note that such a fully equipped medical aid post costs ¤45,000.
It has a number of advantages:
• Mobility. Due to its lightweight, it can be easily towed by any all-wheel drive car or van.
• The compact size allows it to be hidden as close to the frontline as possible.
• The container can function autonomously due to the equipment on board (generators, water tank, bacterial disinfection system, and washing system).
• With a total budget of ¤45,000, it is half the price of a resuscitation vehicle and 10-20 times cheaper than a mobile hospital container.
The goal of the STABNET project is to deploy at least 100 stabilizing containers.
At the same time, combat medics familiar with the submitted model had certain comments. In particular, because small-diameter wheels are not adapted for off-road travel, the container can become a target for Russian operators of FPV drones and gunners.
The container itself is not protected from bullets or debris. In addition, there are many comments on the container equipment and internal dimensions – it is too tight for the work of a surgeon and anesthesiologist. According to the Chief Surgeon of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Surgeon Colonel Kostiantyn Humenyuk, “this is a basic model that needs improvement.”
Recall that Ukrainian specialists also developed a remotely controlled FoxTac platform for the evacuation of wounded soldiers.

Stompzinnige opmerking inderdaad.quote:

Werkelijk?
Wat is de andere optie? Overgave?quote:Op maandag 19 februari 2024 23:39 schreef inslagenreuring het volgende:

Nee. Diplomatie.quote:
