The brigade stated that its command had done everything possible to protect Ukrainian warriors, providing substantial fire support.

The soldiers said that since the end of October 2023, the Russian army had not ceased its attempts to capture the facility through so-called "meat grinder assaults."

The 47th Brigade said that Ukrainian Bradley crews, FPV drone operators, and infantry "ground down the enemy in unprecedented scales."

"Every one of our soldiers has performed their duty honestly, honorably, and bravely throughout this period. Honor! Other units of the 47th SMB continue to hold the defense in designated directions," the military said.

MUNICH — A government body setup by Ukraine to deliver security guarantees from across Europe today laid out its case for speeding Kyiv’s accession to NATO, dismissing three key concerns held by current members.

The International Advisory Group on Ukraine, co-led by former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and President of Ukraine Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak, is proposing all NATO countries agree to offer Ukraine an alliance membership invite, potentially, at the next NATO summit in Washington DC in July, “but won’t guess on timelines.”

Rasmussen called for the invite in short order because a “new security architecture in Europe” is needed and Ukraine ought to be an integrated part of NATO “to serve as a part of a barrier against an aggressive Russia.”

As a priority, the group, which was initially established in 2022 by Ukrainian President Vlodomyr Zelenskyy and tasked to enhance national security through new agreements with European partners, wants to see an end to all limits placed on weapon deliveries to Ukraine, repeating calls from pro-Ukrainian interlocutors over the past two years and which have largely fallen on deaf ears.

At the NATO Summit in Vilnius last year allies also decided against giving Kyiv an assession timeline, committing only to an invitation when “members agree and conditions are met.”

But Rasmussen said he plans to refute three arguments opposing the invitation.

First, Washington and European capitals have not made it clear, as analyst Joshua Huminksi recalled in an op-ed for Breaking Defense earlier this month, whether it’s “even plausible” for a country at war to join NATO.

To that, Rasmussen said that such logic hands Russian President a “de facto veto” vote in NATO simply by continuing the invasion. Surely NATO would not want to allow its adversaries — its reason for being, in the case of Russia — such a say over what it does.

Relately, the second concern is that even an invitation to Kyiv would be seen by the Kremlin as a significant escalation in the conflict, a worry over which Washington has stressed since the outbreak of the conflict. Rasmussen quashed that too, arguing it’s been Russian President Vladimir Putin who has has been “escalating since 2008.”

Finally, he debunked the idea that an invite would lead to NATO fighting a war with Russia, because he said “opposite” outcome is more likely, where Russia is deterred.

“Putin knows, from where Ukraine receives weapons today but has not attacked NATO countries because he respects Article 5,” he explained, refering to the NATO clause that calls for collective defense of any member state.

Crucially, the International Advisory Group invite also proposed a security assurance to Russia that it will not be attacked once Ukraine enters NATO. In return, “1991 borders” belonging to Ukraine, must be respected by Moscow, according to Rasmussen’s vision.

It remains to be seen if NATO leaders, including in Washington, are eager to invite Ukraine into the alliance mid-war, and less likely that Moscow sees a reason to agree to the 1991 borders, which would forfeit Ukrainian land currently controlled by Russia — especially since US President Joe Biden today acknowledged “Russia’s first notable gains in months” in eastern Ukraine.

Separately, today Yermak noted that other bilateral security pacts, similarly to those agreed between Ukraine, France, Germany and the UK in recent days, are currently under discussion. Deals with Canada, Denmark, Italy and the Netherlands, are expected to be concluded soon, he said. Zelenskyy mentioned the Danish pact during a visit to Munich today, saying it will include joint production of drones.

A major fire broke out after an oil depot in Makiivka, Donetsk Oblast was rocked by an explosion.

Russian air defense was allegedly operating in occupied Donetsk and Makiivka, local Telegram channels claimed.

A large cloud of black smoke can be seen in photos and videos published online.

"Makiivka. The Russian invaders' oil depot shoots down Ukrainian missiles," journalist Denys Kazansky sarcastically wrote.

Several substations were cut off because of Makiivka shelling, local channels reported. 15 boiler houses and the villages of Krupska, Horky, Karl Marx and Pervomaiskyi are without electricity.

No casualties have yet been reported.

I am confident in you. I wish you good health. Take care of yourself and your colleagues. This is very important. I wish you all victory,” the President said.

In particular, the Head of State conferred the title of Hero of Ukraine and presented the Golden Star Order to Colonel Oleh Apostol, who has been serving in Air Assault Forces since 2008 and is currently commanding the 95th separate air assault brigade of Armed Forces of Ukraine. Oleh Apostol has been defending Ukraine in the east since 2014. Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, he has participated in the defense and liberation of a number of settlements.

Volodymyr Zelensky also presented the President’s Cross of Military Merit to Colonel Oleksandr Lutsenko.

The defenders also received from the President the Orders of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, III class, and the Orders “For Courage”, II-III class. For the safety of the warriors, Volodymyr Zelensky handed over some of the awards to the commanders so that they could present them at the places of their service.

According to the General Staff of Armed Forces of Ukraine, in the area of responsibility of the Khortytsia operational-strategic group in the Kupiansk sector, Russian invaders tried to attack the positions of Ukrainian troops near Tabaivka in the Kharkiv region twice over the past day.

Maar als het puntje echt bij het paaltje komt moet je gewoon doen wat er van je verwacht wordt. Het leger in dus. Al zal het grootste gedeelte van Fok! te oud zijn, of worden afgekeurd.

Wat natuurlijk ook helpt is dat wij in de NAVO zitten, het conflict moet wel heel erg groot gaan worden (denk aan WW3, waar Rusland, China, India en het midden oosten de oorlog aan ons verklaren) om daadwerkelijk weer de dienstplicht/opkomst plicht te activeren. Dan zijn er weinig landen in de wereld waar wij heen kunnen vluchten die veilig zijn, en waar de levensstandaard hoog genoeg is om aan onze eisen te voldoen.

Death of Russian opposition leader imbues EU summit with renewed nervousness over war in Ukraine

Germany has said it is proposing a new batch of sanctions against Russia over the death of Alexei Navalny as EU ministers met his widow, Yulia Navalnaya, in Brussels.

“We have seen the brutal force with which the Russian president represses his own citizens who take to the streets to demonstrate for freedom or write about it in newspapers,” the German foreign minister, Annalena Baerbock, said on Monday. “We will propose new sanctions in light of the death of Alexei Navalny.”

Sanctions could include the use of frozen Russian assets, a move that would be in addition to a levy Belgium exacts from interest on immobilised cash reserves.

After Hungary dropped its opposition, EU foreign ministers agreed a 13th round of sanctions against Russia on Monday. The bloc will now start studying ways of hitting back at Putin in a 14th round in the coming weeks.

The death of the Russian opposition leader in a penal colony cast a long shadow over the Brussels meeting, with the EU’s chief diplomat, Josep Borrell, proposing that the EU’s global human rights sanctions regime be renamed.

“I am proposing to EU member states to rename our global human rights sanctions regime the ‘Navalny regime’. To honour his memory, for his name to be written on the work of the EU in the defence of human rights around the world,” Borrell said.

His message came as Navalnaya released a powerful video saying she would continue her late husband’s work and fight for Russia.

The shock of Navalny’s death has imbued Monday’s summit with a renewed sense of nervousness verging on panic about the war in Ukraine, with the country’s neighbours decrying what they see as Europe’s lack of urgency in relation to military support.

The Lithuania foreign minister, Gabrielius Landsbergis, launched a scathing attack on fellow leaders, imploring them to treat the situation with renewed vigour.

“We spent two years discussing, trying to figure out the way that we can help Ukraine bit by bit,” he said. “But unfortunately, since we did not formulate a strategic goal for what we are trying to achieve, we’re unable to declare that we’re in this for the victory.”

While EU leaders had been arguing over money, Landsbergis added, Russia had amassed firepower at a 6:1 advantage over Ukraine. He urged the EU to stop dithering about military funds. Germany, he said, had been doing the heavy lifting with ¤17bn contributed so far, while Europe was still debating a fund of ¤5bn a year.

“Europe should be able or could be able to form a fund of ¤5bn when you know, Germany alone is considering sending ¤7bn. So for the 27 countries of Europe, ¤5bn should be a day’s work, an hour’s work,” Landsbergis said.

He was not the only Baltic politician to not mince his words. Margus Tsahkna, Estonia’s foreign minister, said as he arrived: “[Vladimir] Putin is a murderer. He has murdered one person who fought for freedom for democracy and this is exactly why we have to keep going.

“We have to give support to Ukraine by military ways and by political ways. We have to give Ukraine this 1m round of ammunition that EU actually has promised a year ago for this March.”

EU diplomats have acknowledged that the EU has failed to meet this ammunition target, admitting recently it was only producing 500,000 rounds of ammunition and that the target would not be met until the end of the year.

The Belgian foreign minister, Hadja Lahbib, urged EU leaders to consider developing a European army, something first mooted by the French president, Emmanuel Macron, in 2018.

“If Russia manages to expand, it is a dictatorship that will expand and move a little closer to the European Union. It is essential that, here too, we are united, that we develop a defence capacity together, that we also develop an army, not only to defend our territory, but also our values,” Lahbib said.

Borrell told reporters that the EU would redouble efforts to choke off funds to the Kremlin’s military machine. Foreign ministers wre considering the 13th round of sanctions, the biggest list since the first round in the aftermath of the outbreak of war two years ago.

Borrell said member states would propose sanctions “for sure against those responsible”, while making it clear he considered direct responsibility to lie with Putin.

“We can go down the institutional structure of the penitentiary system in Russia,” Borrell said, indicating whom the bloc would add to its list of people subjected to asset freezes and travel bans. “But don’t forget who is really responsible for Navalny’s death.”

Crypto, grondstoffen en rekeningen in buitenlandse valuta is inderdaad een optie, maar dit kom ook met nadelen en risico's.

Zuid-Amerika zou ik overwegen om heen te vluchten als er echt stront aan de knikker is. Zijn qua welvaart normaal, binnenlanden stabiel, en prijzen laag om een tijd vooruit te kunnen. Of zij ook jonge mannen opnemen in een dergelijke situatie is maar de vraag.

Het grootste goed in je leven is "het" leven en je gezondheid. Die zou ik niet graag in de waagschaal willen stellen omdat er enorme hoeveelheden infanterie vlees nodig is omdat het Westen haar afspraken niet nakomt en er een strategie op nahoudt om niemand te laten winnen of verliezen.
