Trump opposes sending any additional aid to Puerto Rico apart from the food stamp money, funding Republicans convinced him to accept as the price for passing the long-pending disaster bill.

The vote on the GOP bill was 44 in favor and 49 against. The House Democratic bill failed on a vote of 46-to-48. Sixty votes were needed for either piece of legislation to advance.

It’s unclear how Congress and the administration will move forward to revive the emergency package, and the impasse risks indefinitely delaying disaster funding nationwide amid partisan sniping. Support for disaster aid is often bipartisan on Capitol Hill, but the dispute over this legislation has become increasingly bitter, despite the evident need.

Hoewel ik besef dat het een aanlokkelijke frame is, hebben de zogenaamde MSM hun werk uiteindelijk gewoon prima gedaan. Qua nieuwsverslaggeving waren de NYT en WaPo de laatste jaren at the top of their game. Wat neem ik mijn pet af voor de onderzoeksteams van die kranten. Onthullingen volgden elkaar in rap tempo op; bombshell na bombshell.

En ik snap heel goed dat Trump en zijn achterban hun uiterste best doen om het beeld te schetsen dat de media twee jaar leugens hebben lopen verkopen. Dat is echter onzin. NYT en WaPo deden vrijwel uitsluitend feitelijke onthullingen, zonder daarbij te concluderen of zelfs suggereren dat Trump daadwerkelijk samenwerkte met de Russen.

Neem de Trump Tower meeting. Werd onthuld door de NYT. Vervolgens probeerde Trump de waarheid te verdoezelen door een eigen draai te geven aan de gebeurtenissen. Maar de media bleven graven met als gevolg dat de feiten uiteindelijk aan het licht kwamen. Dat is gewoon uitstekende journalistiek. En ja, ook die verhalen waren onderdeel van het Rusland-dossier. Geen leugens of complottheorieën, maar keiharde feiten, onthuld door de 'MSM'.
