Samantha Power, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, denounced the new policy on Twitter as “needlessly cruel & bigoted.”

“State Dept. will no longer let same-sex domestic partners of UN employees get visas unless they are married,” she tweeted, noting that “only 12% of UN member states allow same-sex marriage.”

De meesten studenten drinken (veel). Ik ken geen een student die niet veel dronk. Het hoort bij de studententijd. Nee, niet voor een tentamen. Maar als het kon. Murray, the chief executive of the Murray Energy Corporation, one of the nation’s largest coal companies. Mr. Murray, who was a major donor to President Trump’s inauguration fund, personally requested the rollback of the mercury rule soon after Mr. Trump took office, in a written “wish list” he handed to Energy Secretary Rick Perry.

The proposal would also hand a victory to the former clients of William Wehrum, the E.P.A.’s top clean air official and the chief author of the plan. Mr. Wehrum worked for years as a lawyer for companies that run coal-fired power plants, and that have long sought such a change.

A spokesman for the E.P.A. did not respond to a request for comment.

Ik moet ook nog zien of dergelijke bedrijven niet gewoon constructies gaan verzinnen om op papier dergelijke beloningen te garanderen, maar in de praktijk grotendeels te omzeilen.

Wat dat betreft is de constructie uit het voorstel van Sanders niet eens zo gek, al moet ik de concrete uitwerking nog zien. De enige reden dat dat soort bedrijven hun personeel zo kunnen uitknijpen is dat de overheid bijspringt om ze nog iets van een bestaansminimum te garanderen.
