Een van de belangrijkste zaken van de Olympische Spelen is toch wel het winnen van de befaamde medailles, en daar wordt dan ook elke editie een kek klassement van bijgehouden. In dit klassement, medaillespiegel genaamd, strijden de Verenigde Staten en China de laatste jaren om de hoogste posities, zeker nu de Russen nog meer aan kracht hebben ingeboet. Hierdoor lijken Team GB en Australië serieuze kanshebbers op een podiumplaats. Voor Nederland lijkt een top 10-klassering mogelijk, maar dan moet alles meezitten. 8 a 9 gouden plakken zijn dan normaal gesproken vereist.

Zeker op de eerste dag zal de strijd verhit zijn, want vier jaar geleden kon Kazachstan toen een mooie positie pakken, onder andere met dank aan Rigoberto Uran Uran, die het goud kado deed aan Vino. Als ik sommige topics mag geloven zal Nederland dat dit jaar doen, aangezien de eerste dag 3 goud moet opleveren. Ikzelf ben nog wat sceptisch,, maar desalniettemin ben ik benieuwd welke verrassingen we zullen zien.

De strijd tussen de VS en China werd in 2012 afgetekend beslist in het voordeel van de VS, die deze spelen ook geholpen worden door de missende russen op de atletiekbaan, wat veel meer in het voordeel van de Amerikanen is. Het lijkt er dus op dat er een herhaling van zetten komt. China heeft in ieder geval een grote vroege voorsprong nodig om de Amerikaanse tweede week af te wenden. Het schoonspringen, trampolinespringen en tafeltennis zijn prachtige ondedelen om je medaillespiegel wat op te krikken.

Game on! En dat we mogen genieten van een mooie klassering voor de Nederlanders.

In Peking waren de badmintonnummers, het tafeltennis min of meer zekerheidjes voor China. Ook wonnen ze in 2008 alle turnonderdelen bij de mannen op één na.

Er valt vast nog wel een 'verrassende' gouden medaille uit de bus van de bmx'erhandbal/volleybal/springruiters. Duitsers gaan normaal wel nog wat zilveren medailles pakken. In de atletiek wordt het niet bijzonder (Storl zilver misschien, speerwerpers zijn chokers en dan ben je al klaar. Tenzij Roleder of Kazmirek nog verrassen voor brons).

Grenada heeft 9 medailles op een miljoen inwoners. Als een klein land een medaille haalt omdat ze een wereldtopper hebben kan niemand daar in de buurt van komen.

Bahama's ook een klein land met een medaille. Die hebben er dus 3 per miljoen inwoners.

Japan heeft nog vier jaar om atleten klaar te stomen. In dat kader is het wel interessant dat Japan al 33 medailles heeft. Om spoilers te kunnen lezen moet je zijn ingelogd. Je moet je daarvoor eerst gratis Registreren. Ook kun je spoilers niet lezen als je een ban hebt.
Het blijft spannend om plaatsen 2 en 3, terwijl ook om 4-6 een mooie strijd is. Brazilië komt met alle teammedailles straks toch nog aardig opzetten. Al worden er nog maar 2 echt verwacht.

Chinezen hebben het in vergelijking met twee eerdere Spelen laten liggen in het gewichtheffen, het turnen en het badminton (allemaal ze nog wel gewoon de herendubbel en herenenkel kunnen winnen daar)

Australië heeft sowieso Tallent nog bij de 50 km snelwandelen, meer niet denk ik. Ja, BMX (Willoughby zag er erg goed uit) maar dat is een loterij. Frankrijk kan wel nog richting top 4/5 met de springruiters, handballers (m,v), Diniz, Absalon, Bresset/PFP, Belaud/Prades (moderne vijfkamp mannen), Clouvel (moderne vijfkamp vrouwen) hebben ze in de laatste dagen nog heel veel kansen op goud.
