Een van de belangrijkste zaken van de Olympische Spelen is toch wel het winnen van de befaamde medailles, en daar wordt dan ook elke editie een kek klassement van bijgehouden. In dit klassement, medaillespiegel genaamd, strijden de Verenigde Staten en China de laatste jaren om de hoogste posities, zeker nu de Russen nog meer aan kracht hebben ingeboet. Hierdoor lijken Team GB en Australië serieuze kanshebbers op een podiumplaats. Voor Nederland lijkt een top 10-klassering mogelijk, maar dan moet alles meezitten. 8 a 9 gouden plakken zijn dan normaal gesproken vereist.

Zeker op de eerste dag zal de strijd verhit zijn, want vier jaar geleden kon Kazachstan toen een mooie positie pakken, onder andere met dank aan Rigoberto Uran Uran, die het goud kado deed aan Vino. Als ik sommige topics mag geloven zal Nederland dat dit jaar doen, aangezien de eerste dag 3 goud moet opleveren. Ikzelf ben nog wat sceptisch,, maar desalniettemin ben ik benieuwd welke verrassingen we zullen zien.

De strijd tussen de VS en China werd in 2012 afgetekend beslist in het voordeel van de VS, die deze spelen ook geholpen worden door de missende russen op de atletiekbaan, wat veel meer in het voordeel van de Amerikanen is. Het lijkt er dus op dat er een herhaling van zetten komt. China heeft in ieder geval een grote vroege voorsprong nodig om de Amerikaanse tweede week af te wenden. Het schoonspringen, trampolinespringen en tafeltennis zijn prachtige ondedelen om je medaillespiegel wat op te krikken.

Game on! En dat we mogen genieten van een mooie klassering voor de Nederlanders.

Ik zeg wat er verder ook gebeurd, dat er in Papendal? na Rio 2016 harde noten zullen worden gekraakt op die sport-onderdelen waarin Nederland de afgelopen jaren domineerde.Of we zijn gewoon te verwend geweest de afgelopen jaren.

Dat is sowieso iets van Canada. In Londen haalden ze 1 gouden, 5 zilveren en 12 bronzen medailles. In totaal hebben ze nu (op de zomerspelen) 61 goud, 101 zilver en 129 brons.

Het zijn op de Zomerspelen toch niet zo'n afmakers als op de Winterspelen. In de breedte is Canada een behoorlijk sportland, maar ze missen een supervedette.
Klopt, maar het is toch tekenend dat het al heel lang zo is.

Je kunt wel spreken van een olympisch effect, maar in een wat minder welvarend land dat ook nog eens in een economische en politieke crisis zit kun je niet verwachten dat ze ineens op alle nummers boven zichzelf uitstijgen. Ligt daar toch wat moeilijker dan in het VK of Australië.
