21 mei 2008
bron: Autosportquote:McLaren have been moved back up to the middle of the pitlane for the Monaco Grand Prix, following their relegation down to the bottom end for the last three races.
The Woking-based team had started the season in the fifth slot between Williams and Red Bull Racing, but were informed prior to the Bahrain Grand Prix that they would be moved to the last position - after alleged complaints from rival teams.
Although it was expected that they would remain there for the rest of the season, the pitlane allocation for Monaco has seen them return to the slot between Williams and Red Bull Racing.
No reason has been specified.
McLaren, whose motorhome remains at the bottom of the paddock, were unconcerned about being at the bottom of the pitlane – especially because it gave them an advantage in getting a clear exit from the pits after refuelling stops.
"Technically, it's an advantage as far as we can see and where we are in the pit lane doesn't affect the races," team boss Ron Dennis said in Bahrain. "If there is an outcome, it will be positive not negative.
"Obviously some of the other facilities are not as good as here in Bahrain, it can be a bit of a squeeze, but we're very resilient to this sort of thing."
bron: Autosportquote:Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has said he will defend his corner in the battle for the future of the sport if FIA president Max Mosley wants a fight over it.
Reacting to a letter Mosley wrote to national automobile clubs last week, ahead of the FIA Extraordinary General Assembly meeting on June 3 to decide his future, the Briton warned that the governing body risked losing control of F1 to commercial rights holders Ecclestone and CVC partners if he was forced from office.
Ecclestone has said he was taken aback by those suggestions and has revealed that CVC is to follow up Mosley's letter with their own explanation of the situation.
"I sincerely hope that it isn't a declaration of war because, if that's what the message should be, then we'll have to defend ourselves," Ecclestone told The Times.
"That is what anyone would do. I don't believe that's what Max wanted the letter to say. I don't want to have a war with Max. I hope he doesn't want one with me.
"This whole business is really about what was printed in the News of the World and whether this in any way damaged the FIA clubs or the FIA - that's all.
"It's nothing to do with anything else and I don't quite know why he's come out and said these things. I am sorry if the press have reported things which he doesn't like, but we certainly don't have any influence over the FIA."
Ecclestone revealed that CVC had held a meeting to discuss Mosley's stance and agreed to write a letter to the automobile clubs themselves to set the record straight.
"We have decided we are going to contact all the clubs who Max wrote to, with a reply to the matters raised in his letter," Ecclestone said.
"I think the General Assembly of the FIA was called for one reason only - to decide whether or not they think Max is the right person to be their president. The vote will be on that, not about the Concorde Agreement."

Bronquote:Alonso signs for Ferrari
The word in the F1 paddock in Monte Carlo is that Fernando Alonso has just inked a deal to drive for Ferrari in 2010.
No confirmation is expected for a year, and there may be denials of any arrangement, as there would obviously be some serious knock-on effects for other parties in the F1 paddock.
Alonso went to Renault this year after splitting with McLaren unexpectedly at the end of last season. It was a stop-gap solution for the Spaniard, although it was dressed up as the big return to the team with which he won his two World Championships. This year the team's performance has been rather disappointing and Fernando has scored just nine points, while Nelson Piquet has failed to score and the team is languishing in seventh place in the Constructors' Championship. Unless there is a dramatic improvement soon the team will have no hope of finishing the year better than fourth in the championship and there have been rumours for some time that ING may be looking around at other opportunities.
Fernando has made no secret of the fact that he will consider other offers if they are sensible. He has been angling for a ride at Ferrari for some time. It may seem that is a rather premature move, but these days in F1 deals are being done much earlier than used to be the case. Kimi Raikkonen's deal with Ferrari, which began in 2007, was first reported as being done as early as October 2005. Alonso's 2007 deal with McLaren was announced in December 2005. Thus now would be the time that deals are being done for 2010.
quote:REVEALED: MI5 man's 'prostitute' wife embroiled in Mosley scandal
This is the wife that an MI5 agent kept secret from his Security Service bosses until she was involved in an S&M orgy with motor racing chief Max Mosley.
The spy was forced to resign after confessing he had concealed his marriage to the ‘professional dominatrix’ when it emerged she had sold details of a sadomasochistic sex session with the F1 boss to a newspaper.
'Mistress Abi' wore a military-style uniform during her session with Mosley
MI5 officers are supposed to disclose full details of their personal lives to their bosses.
But the £30,000-a-year mobile surveillance officer – whose job involved tracking suspected terrorists – had told them nothing about his relationship.
The former Royal Marine married ‘Mistress Abi’ last August. The couple had already lived together for several years.
However, the Security Service’s vetting procedures – which regularly update the personnel files of all officers, looking for potential security breaches – failed to uncover details of the relationship.
A security source said: ‘The main focus of the procedures is to ensure MI5 officers are not connected to anyone who poses a direct security threat.
‘But once someone joins the Service, much of the continuous vetting relies heavily on people’s honesty and integrity.
‘Staff are expected to tell the vetting department when they are in a serious relationship. In this case, this officer chose to conceal this part of his life completely, even after he married.’
Investigations by The Mail on Sunday reveal why he could not have told his bosses about his wife and have expected to keep his highly sensitive job.
'Mistress Abi': The 'professional dominatrix' strikes a pose
Mistress Abi’s website – removed from the internet in the wake of the Mosley affair – gives a full breakdown of her sordid employment.
The site ‘Mistress Abi Professional Dominatrix’, retrieved from a computer archive of the worldwide web, contains dozens of pornographic pictures and graphic images of her ‘services’.
The photos include images of the 38-year-old woman in a military uniform similar to those she and four other prostitutes wore during their five-hour session with Mr Mosley, the 68-year-old son of Sir Oswald Mosley, the wartime British fascist leader.
Many of the images on the site are too obscene to describe in a family newspaper.
The site’s front page says: ‘Mistress Abi caters for males, females, tv’s (transvestites) and couples in her discreet, private dungeon facility in the Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Northampton and Oxford areas.
'Mistress Abi': 'I love to torment or humiliate a slave'
‘Mistress Abi’s services include: domination, bondage, humiliation, pain and torture at all levels and most fetish fantasies. Mistress Abi has clothing in rubber, pvc, leather, and thigh-high/knee boots.’
The next page adds: ‘I am a tall, beautiful, strict, demanding, bisexual Dominatrix, the kind you have always dreamt about. I expect total obedience and discretion from those who wish to serve me...’
The site lists ‘approved activities’ including caning or flogging (light to severe), face-slapping and even ‘blackmail’.
However, she warns: ‘I do not offer personal or escorting services ever, so do not even think about asking as it causes great offence and you will be ignored.’
She reveals that most of her sessions take place in a converted garage in a private house on the outskirts of Milton Keynes and that she charges clients a ‘tribute’ of £120 an hour.
Adverts for her services appear on other S&M websites, together with an interview about how she decided to make a living from it.
She says she had been involved in sadomasochism for seven years and went ‘professional’ in 2005, around the time she moved to Milton Keynes – when her husband began working for MI5.
She adds: ‘I would say I am a sensual sadist. I love to punish, torment, chastise or humiliate a slave but I am not a whip wielding shouting/screaming maniac.
I do it with a sensual style, “pain and pleasure, pleasure and pain” I think sums it up. But don’t think I can’t do what is needed if a slave gets out of line!’
Last night, neither Mistress Abi nor her husband could be contacted for comment. A mobile phone number previously used by her clients was switched off.
Alan Banks, her American-based website provider, said: ‘Her site has been taken down.’ He offered to pass on details to his client, but added: ‘I don’t think you will hear from her.’
Security sources have dismissed any suggestion that the surveillance officer was involved in the secret filming of Mr Mosley in a ‘torture dungeon’ at a £2million flat in Chelsea.
They said the officer was unaware of it until after the story appeared in the papers.
But the fall-out caused acute embarrassment after MI5 chief Jonathan Evans had to tell the Prime Minister one of his agents was caught up in the affair.
He also gave a categorical assurance that MI5 was not involved in an operation to entrap Mr Mosley, who is not considered a security threat.

bronquote:The FIA is in a 'critical' situation and could suffer serious damage to its image and credibility unless Max Mosley resigns, a number of leading automobile clubs have warned the FIA president in a last ditch plea ahead of next week's confidence vote.
Mosley has been told there is 'no way back' for the governing body to avoid being hurt if he does not agree to stand down and put in place an orderly transition process for a new president.
With tensions inside the governing body clearly rising ahead of next week's Extraordinary General Meeting in Paris to vote on his future, 24 clubs representing 22 different nations have written a joint letter expressing their belief that the FIA would be best served if Mosley stood aside.
"We strongly believe that the only respectable way forward for the FIA, and for yourself, is to have an orderly transition, with an immediate agreement and your commitment to step down," said the letter, a copy of which has been seen by autosport.com.
"The FIA is in a critical situation. Its image, reputation and credibility are being severely eroded. Every additional day that this situation persists, the damage increases. There is no way back."
The letter, sent on Wednesday, was signed by representatives from America (AAA and AATA), Singapore (AAS), Germany (ADAC), Finland, (AL), Canada (CAA), Brazil (CCB), Denmark (FDM), France (FFA), India (FIAA), Japan (JAF), the Netherlands (KNAC), Sweden (M), Hungary (MAK), Israel (MEMSI), Austria (OEMTC), Spain (RACC and RACE), Belgium (TCB) and Switzerland (TCS).
The clubs also express their disappointment that Mosley refused the offer of a compromise deal to step down in November in exchange for a guaranteed victory in next week's vote.
"We deeply regret your refusal to accept the proposal by the members of the World Council for Automobile Mobility and Tourism to reach an agreement for you to step down at the General Assembly in the coming month of November," said the letter.
"This is a constructive effort to facilitate an orderly transition within the FIA and to find a solution to the present crisis.
"Instead, your intention to remain until the end of your term in 2009, in spite of the severe damage being inflicted to the FIA, could imply putting personal considerations before the interests of the FIA and its member clubs."
The clubs also reject Mosley's fears, expressed in a recent letter he wrote to FIA clubs, suggesting there was a risk of division amongst them. They also state they do not accept Mosley's warning that the FIA could lose control of F1 if he is forced out of office after next week's vote.
Instead, they claim Bernie Ecclestone's letter last week that suggested he wanted to continue working with the FIA gave a better indication of the state of play between the governing body and F1's commercial rights holders.
"We take note of the letter sent by B. Ecclestone to all member clubs, stating his support for the FIA as the sole body governing international motor sport and his willingness to continue working with the FIA, irrespective of the result of the Extraordinary General Assembly on June 3rd.
"We believe that his explanations put in due perspective the state of the relationship between the FIA and the Formula One world, taking away relevance to many of the arguments you make in your letter to justify your continuity. We take note of his point on the importance that the FIA be led by a credible and respected President."
Although the letter sheds light on the level of dissatisfaction with the FIA, it is believed there are still enough clubs willing to back Mosley at next week's vote to make it likely that he will receive the support of the majority to continue in his role until his term ends in October 2009.
However, the ultimate aim of this latest letter may not be to convince Mosley to step down but to make clear to the wavering voters that there is enough feeling against Mosley for him to lose the vote.
With the 24 clubs that signed the letter representing 86 percent of the total FIA members (though not the votes in the General Assembly), those contemplating voting against Mosley may feel safe in doing so without fear of being a lone voice of dissent.
bronquote:Dear Presidents
Thank you for your letter of 28 May.
I will use your numbering in this reply.
1. I did not accept the proposal from some (but not, as you incorrectly suggest, all) members of the Mobility World Council because it was the worst possible solution. I would have resigned, yet still spent the summer carrying out all the day-to-day work with neither the time nor the authority to complete the major outstanding tasks. Better to stop immediately than accept this muddled compromise.
Your suggestion of a "crisis" is nonsense. Although I am personally embarrassed and greatly regret that this affair has become public, no one fails to call for roadside assistance because of it.
As I said in my earlier letters, the communications I received from club presidents were overwhelmingly in favour of my remaining as president. I therefore had no choice but to submit the question to the FIA membership as a whole. I certainly could not have simply ignored the majority and resigned.
2. Some of the larger clubs among those who have signed your letter have previously contradicted their claimed commitment to the FIA. See the sample responses of the AAA, ADAC, ANWB, JAF, and TCS to the FIA Survey of 5 February 2008 attached. These same clubs have, of course, been trying to change the structure of the FIA since well before the events they now seek to exploit.
As stated in my letter of 23 May, several of these same clubs have formed groups separate from the FIA from which the wider FIA membership is excluded. Worse, they have obstructed our efforts to improve cooperation between all clubs. Combined with a complete lack of transparency, I believe these activities are contrary to the interests of the FIA.
3. Mr Ecclestone is willing to continue working with the FIA because he has a binding contract to do so. In his letter to the clubs, he says he is now willing to live with this contract. That is a sudden and major change in position.
Together with other member clubs of the FIA you will be free to express your views to the Assembly next Tuesday.
In the interest of transparency, I am sending a copy of your letter together with this reply to all the member clubs of the FIA.
Yours sincerely
Max Mosley
