It’s unclear if the Mulvaney discussions or other records pose any legal problems for Trump in the impeachment inquiry, but some fear they could pose political problems if revealed publicly.

Kortom als bijgewerkte samenvatting:
Mulvaney verklaarde in een persconferentie dat onderzoek naar de DNC een overweging was bij de ingehouden steun*. Sondland getuigde dat Giuliani aangaf dat een bezoek aan het Witte Huis conditioneel was voor een mededeling dat een onderzoek gestart zou worden en dat Trump bij herhaling aangaf met Giuliani op dit dossier te moeten werken. Verder weten we vanuit het telefoongesprek tussen Trump en Zelensky dat Trump op de hoogte was wat er gevraagd werd, hij vroeg het nota bene zelf en vanuit de getuigenis van Holmes dat hij had vernomen dat de inhouding van steun op order van Trump gebeurde.
* Later voegde hij hier aan toe dat dit voor officieel onderzoek was waar de DOJ mee bezig was door Durham, waar begin december het rapport van verwacht wordt. Dit lijkt me, om redenen zoals eerder betoogd, nonsens.
En wat bedoel je met "later voegde hij hier aan toe" ?. Het gaat om 1 en dezelfde persconferentie en serie van vragen en antwoorden dat weet je toch neem ik aan ?
Maar goed. Ik vraag me af of je nog een zaak kan maken als enkel de meeting in ruil voor de mededeling overblijft. Lijkt mij niet te kwalificeren als bribery daar een meeting geen item of value is lijkt mij. Tevens is die mededeling er nooit gekomen en heeft er gewoon een meeting plaatsgevonden, weliswaar niet in the White House maar wel in NY. Dus als dat de zaak moet worden waar je een president voor wil afzetten dan vraag ik me af hoeveel steun je daarvoor van het volk kan verwachten (in het senaat zal het sowieso kansloos zijn). Ik denk een heel stuk minder als wanneer je wel hard kan maken dat de steun ingehouden is in ruil voor het heropenen van onderzoeken maar Burisma. En vooralsnog is dat nog niet gelukt.

Ik zou er niet te veel van verwachten. Mulvaney heeft dit zelf al aangegeven in de persconferentie van 17 oktober. Het lijkt met niet dat je even "by the way" je cover up gaat lopen verklappen. Lijkt gewoon weer de zoveelste smear campagne van WP op basis van anonieme bronnen.quote:

Die meeting in het Witte Huis met POTUS voor het oog van de wereld (en niet te vergeten zijn eigen bevolking) was juist uitermate belangrijk voor de positie van Zelensky. Het zou vooral een sterk signaal afgegeven hebben richting Putin: de president van de Verenigde Staten staat achter de militaire steun voor Oekraine. Dat bezoek werd tegengehouden omdat Trump eerst in ruil een toezegging wilde van een onderzoek naar de Bidens en het (voor Trump) allerbelangrijkste: een publieke aankondiging daarvan bij CNN.
Een grotere waarde (thing of value) kan je in deze situatie niet bedenken lijkt me.
En zoals ook zo vaak is uitgelegd in politieke analyses zou het achteraf erkennen van Zelensky dat hij wel degelijk onder druk stond op dezelfde manier een signaal afgegeven hebben van zwakte, vooral ook richting zijn eigen bevolking. Wie wil er nou een president die zich laat chanteren in een volkomen politiek beladen partisan onderzoek. Om nog maar niet te spreken over de gevolgen dat dat gehad zou hebben voor de relatie met Trump. Vandaar zijn ontkenning ervan.

Deze toestanden krijg je dus als betrokkenen dingen gaan tweeten/ met de pers praten voor er overlegd is. Trump doet het natuurlijk ook niet voor niets via twitter, hij weet best wel dat daarmee het normale proces al verstoord is maar zijn aanhang vindt dit soort 'stoere' acties prachtig en daar gaat het om. Dat het gezag er binnen het leger mee ondermijnd wordt zal hem worst wezen.quote:

En dan krijg je ook dit: Gallagher's openlijke kritiek bij Fox News op admiraal Green en 'the higher echelon' waar volgens hem de hele SEAL-community volledig achter staat. Daar zit een organisatie als het leger dat vooral functioneert op basis van regels, rangorde en de bijbehorende gehoorzaamheid vast op te wachten! En POTUS wordt natuurlijk de hemel in geprezen als de geweldige leider die hij is
