Volgens mij had FiveThirtyEight berekend dat het minimaal in een voordeel van zes procent moet uitvallen voor de democraten om het huis terug te winnen, wat zeker mogelijk is - maar het systeem werkt overduidelijk in het voordeel van de republikeinen.

It began with a reference to the protests around the country after a shooting in Parkland, Fla., left 17 people dead.

“Please be advised that the Needville ISD will not allow a student demonstration during school hours for any type of protest or awareness!!” Rhodes wrote. “Should students choose to do so, they will be suspended from school for 3 days and face all the consequences that come along with an out of school suspension. Life is all about choices and every choice has a consequence whether it be positive or negative. We will discipline no matter if it is one, fifty, or five hundred students involved.”

Rhodes — a registered Republican, according to public records — said parental notes would make no difference. “Respect yourself,” Rhodes wrote, “and please understand that we are here for an education and not a political protest.”

Blaming video games for gun violence isn’t anything new for Trump who, after the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012, tweeted, “Video game violence & glorification must be stopped—it is creating monsters!” His comments also echo those made by other Republican politicians, including the governor of Kentucky, who said last week on a radio talk show that violent video games were responsible for desensitizing people to the value of human life. It’s a familiar scapegoat many of us have been hearing for decades, one which often acts like a smokescreen to deflect responsibility away from the Second Amendment and lax gun laws.

The last major attempt to try and regulate violent video games came in the form of a 2005 California law backed by then Democratic assemblyman Leland Yee. It sought to criminalize the sale of violent games to minors, but was blocked from taking effect when groups like the ESA and Entertainment Merchants Association sued. The law was then eventually eventually shot down by the Supreme Court which found that it violated the First Amendment.
