Ja, alles is redundant uitgevoerd, maar geloof mij maar dat we daar uitval hebben meegemaakt net als bij elk ander telecombedrijf. Satellietverbindingen die uren en uren offline lagen door onweersbuien, fibercuts of gewoon routers die vonden dat ze geen forwarding traffic meer hoefden door te pushen..

Defensie gebruikt voor zijn IT gewoon burger hardware (cisco) met een SLA. Niet heel spannend.. en de mensen die er werken zijn ook niet speciaal. In de commerci�le wereld verdien je als topper meer.. dus je kan wel raden of ze bij defensie werken...

Western media coverage of the Krynky battle has characterized it as a “suicide mission” for the marines. But it’s the Russians who are dying by the hundred in doomed assaults across minefields around the muddy fishing hamlet and adjacent forest plantations.

Incredibly, the outnumbered Ukrainians have managed to achieve local superiority in artillery and drones—by grounding Russia’s drones with radio-jamming then launching their own drones to hunt down Russian howitzers and rocket-launchers.

“Russian attacks continue to hit Krynky hard,” analyst Donald Hill wrote in fellow analyst Tom Cooper’s newsletter on Jan. 1. “One of them actually pushed through the forest and gained a foothold in the town, but Ukrainian artillery blasted the rubble of the houses that they occupied—and Ukraine regained all of their defensive lines.”

One recent attack—perhaps the same one Hill referred to—was the most appalling for a blogger from Russia’s separate airborne corps. “Even though the weather was on our side, the enemy’s tactical advantage in artillery remained,” the blogger wrote.

“An order was received to destroy the enemy with a daring Zhukov maneuver, just like 80 years ago,” the blogger added, referring to Russian general Georgy Zhukov, who has become notorious—fairly or not—for claims he cleared German minefields by ordering his soldiers to just ... walk across them.

According to Hill, the Ukrainians replenish the minefields around Krynky under the cover of darkness. “Ukrainian drones are mining the roads at night and disabling trucks and cars. In the morning, before the vehicles can be recovered, drones finish them off by dropping munitions.”

As a result of the recent Zhukov-style attack across reseeded minefields, the Russian 104th Air Assault Division “lost unique specialists,” the blogger wrote, “but the situation on the battlefield did not change.”

With each failed assault, Russian casualties accumulate, contributing to the wider Ukrainian advantage in what is turning into a long-term war of attrition. Since Oct. 14, the Russians have lost 143 pieces of heavy equipment around Krynky. The Ukrainians have lost 25.

The Russian ruling party, United Russia, is recruiting members for its own "private army," the mercenary company Hispaniola, Ukraine's military intelligence agency (HUR) said on Jan. 3.

This adds the group to the list of several mercenary formations that have fought in Russian ranks against Ukraine, the most notable being the Wagner Company.

Hispaniola was previously part of the Russian militant group Vostok Battalion as a volunteer unit of Russian football hooligans. Since 2023, Hispaniola has been under the control of United Russia as a private military company, according to military intelligence.

The ruling party, formally chaired by ex-President Dmitry Medvedev but effectively one of the pillars of Russian leader Vladimir Putin's rule, has reportedly been pouring money into the group and began to actively seek new members.

According to the HUR, the unit is made up of football ultras, radicals, and neo-Nazi sympathizers, but also recruits citizens from poorer Russian regions and occupied territories of Ukraine.

The latter are reportedly used primarily as cannon fodder, military intelligence noted.

At Hispaniola's recruiting centers in occupied Ukraine, volunteers are offered 220,000 rubles ($2,400) per month for direct participation in hostilities for at least half a year.

Recruits are also promised 1-3 million rubles ($10,920-$32,760) as insurance for injuries and 5 million rubles ($54,600) in case of death, military intelligence said.

In practice, such compensations are often omitted as dead and seriously wounded are regularly left behind on the battlefield and registered as "missing" so as not to pay out the insurance, the HUR added.

Hispaniola was reportedly formed in 2022 by militant Stanislav Orlov and Vostok Batallion's leader, Alexander Khodakovsky. The unit claims it had participated in the siege of Azovstal in Mariupol.

The BBC reported last November that in March 2023, Hispaniola parted its ways with Vostok and went under the control of Redut, a private military company run by the Russian Defense Ministry.

Moscow continues to employ irregular mercenaries despite the brief uprising of Wagner Group and its now-deceased leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, in June last year.

Norway will send two F-16 fighter jets to Denmark as part of a training mission for Ukrainian pilots, Norwegian Defense Minister Bjoern Arild Gram said on Jan. 3, cited by the Norwegian media outlet NRK.

The "fighter jet coalition" to provide training for Ukrainian pilots and technical staff was officially established in July by 11 founding allied countries. Lessons for Ukrainian aviators are underway in Denmark and the U.S., and a training center was recently opened in Romania.

Norway will also provide 10 instructors to the training facility in Denmark. The two planes the country will send are for training purposes, but according to NRK, Norway also plans to send Ukraine between five and 10 F-16s.

The Netherlands will deliver 18 F-16 aircraft to Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Dec. 22, following a call with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

It is unclear when the fighter jets will actually arrive in Ukraine, and some Ukrainian lawmakers have suggested that they will not be operational until the late spring, in the best case scenario.

The Washington Post reported that according to official estimates, Ukrainian pilots would be ready to fly F-16s no earlier than summer 2024.

The fall of the zero stage motor of a Russian 57E6 guided surface-to-air missile on residential buildings due to the negligence of Russian air defense forces is routine for the civilian population of Belgorod.

A local Telegram channel published a photo of a rocket booster that recently fell in the yard of a private house, breaking through paving slabs.

The 57E6 missile’s launch engine weighs 18.5 kilograms. Such an object can significantly damage or even destroy any building if it falls on it.

Militarnyi has repeatedly reported on the Pantsir SAM deployment in close proximity to civilian objects in Russia.

Newsweek has been unable to independently verify the report, and has contacted Russia's Defense Ministry for comment via email. Russian authorities haven't commented on the alleged incident.

During the holidays, while on their latest flight, the pilots packed some sweet treats as a present for the girl and dropped the package from the helicopter.

The pilots captured this moment on video, and you can see the girl running out of her damaged house, greeting the Ukrainian pilots, and running over to the package they dropped.

For the past two weeks, the experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have been denied access to the reactor halls of units 1, 2, and 6 of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the IAEA said on Jan. 3.

"This is the first time that IAEA experts have not been granted access to a reactor hall of a unit that was in cold shutdown," reads the organization's statement.

"This is where the reactor core and spent fuel are located. The team will continue to request this access."

Five of the plant's six reactors remain in cold shutdown, while unit 4 is in hot shutdown "to produce steam and heat, including for the nearby town of Enerhodar, where most plant staff live," according to the IAEA.

Ukraine's state nuclear energy company Energoatom says keeping the fourth reactor in a hot state violates the way the reactor should be operated.

The IAEA also said its experts remain unable to gain access to some other parts of the plant, including the turbine halls of units 3, 4, and 6 and the reactor rooftops.

They have continued to hear regular explosions "some distance away from the site," the IAEA added.

The Zaporizhzhia plant was forced to rely on diesel generators overnight on Dec. 2 during a blackout after the 330 kV backup and 750 kV main power lines were cut off.

"Frequent power cuts have remained a source of serious concern for safety and security at Europe's largest nuclear power plant as it needs electricity to cool its reactors and for other essential functions, even when all reactor units have been shut down," the IAEA said in its latest update.

Russian forces have occupied the Zaporizhzhia plant, located on the east bank of the Dnipro River in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, since March 2022.

Throughout the full-scale invasion, the plant has been repeatedly disconnected from the Ukrainian power grid due to Russian attacks on the country's energy infrastructure.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has staff based at the nuclear plant on rotation since September 2022 to monitor the situation.

When police went to the scene, they saw the garland which the owner had hung in celebration of the New Year and a “slogan glorifying the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” as a spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs told state-owned news agency TASS.

The apartment owner said the garland was supposed to display a “Happy New Year” greeting, TASS reported.

Several other people in Russia described a similar experience on the AlexGyver web forum, linked to a DIY blog popular in the country. They said at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve, their LED curtains also began to show the “Glory to Ukraine” message in Ukrainian.

It is not clear whether any of these other posters were also arrested. The man in Veliky Novgorod will have to defend his case in court, according to TASS. Police have seized the curtain itself.

An independent investigation into the cause of the message by the AlexGyver forum users found that affected curtains all used the same open-source firmware code.

The original code appears to have originated in Ukraine before someone created a fork translated into Russian. According to the Telegram channel for AlexGyver, the code had been added to the original project on October 18, and then in December the people or person running the fork copied and pasted that update into their own version.

“Everyone who downloaded and updated the firmware in December received a gift,” the Telegram channel wrote. The message was “really encrypted, hidden from the ‘reader’ of the code, and is displayed on the first day of the year exclusively for residents of Russia by [geographic region].”
