Leg Nederland bijvoorbeeld naast de staat New York. Die zijn zowel qua omvang als inwonertal vergelijkbaar. Dan doet New York het vele malen slechter. Het is dus maar net door welke bril je de cijfers bekijkt.
Het virus is nog niet doorgedrongen tot alle gemeenschappen in de VS. Mocht dat gebeuren, dan verschuift het beeld heel snel.

Het testen van mensen die ernstig ziek zijn op een afdeling van een verzorgingstehuis waar al corona heerst en waar de mensen die afdeling niet af gaan heeft dus bijvoorbeeld weinig zin. People typically die of COVID-19 about a month after they are infected with the coronavirus, suggesting that the person who died Feb. 6 likely was infected in early January. At that time, the virus had only been reported in China — the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had not yet issued any advisories to Americans about the potential threat.
Santa Clara County officials said in a statement that the medical examiner-coroner had performed autopsies on two people who died at home on Feb. 6 and Feb. 17 and sent tissue samples to the CDC. The CDC confirmed that both samples were positive for the coronavirus on Tuesday.
The county also confirmed a resident who died March 6 had died from COVID-19.
All three residents died at home “during a time when very limited testing was available only through the CDC,” the county statement said.
“Testing criteria set by the CDC at the time restricted testing to only individuals with a known travel history and who sought medical care for specific symptoms,” the statement said. “As the medical examiner-coroner continues to carefully investigate deaths throughout the county, we anticipate additional deaths from COVID-19 will be identified.”

Nou ja afgezien van het feit dat zijn daadwerkelijke claim (meer testen dan alle andere landen samen) ook nog eens feitelijk onjuist was, ben ik niet zo van de autistendefinities. Zo'n uitspraak wordt gedaan in een bepaalde context. Het ging hier om een vraag waarom de VS de beloftes van Pence over testen niet waarmaakte. Daarop stelde Trump dat de VS meer testte dan de rest van de wereld bij elkaar. Dat was natuurlijk een flagrante leugen, maar belangrijker nog het is totaal misplaatste 'spin'. Testen is in deze context een relatief begrip. De relevante van testen is dat je voldoende mensen kunt testen om gevallen te detecteren en dat is natuurlijk een concept dat enkel relevantie heeft in relatieve zin.
