NYT en WaPo deden vrijwel uitsluitend feitelijke onthullingen, zonder daarbij te concluderen of zelfs suggereren dat Trump daadwerkelijk samenwerkte met de Russen.

Neem de Trump Tower meeting. Werd onthuld door de NYT. Vervolgens probeerde Trump de waarheid te verdoezelen door een eigen draai te geven aan de gebeurtenissen. Maar de media bleven graven met als gevolg dat de feiten uiteindelijk aan het licht kwamen. Dat is gewoon uitstekende journalistiek. En ja, ook die verhalen waren onderdeel van het Rusland-dossier. Geen leugens of complottheorieën, maar keiharde feiten, onthuld door de 'MSM'.

In a follow-up interview later in the morning, The Sun-Times reported, Smollett told the police that the attackers yelled “this is MAGA country,” a reference to President Trump’s campaign slogan.

The newspaper also reported that the F.B.I. was looking into a letter sent to Fox offices in Chicago last week that contained threatening language toward Smollett and a white powdery substance.

On Tuesday night, the police said in a statement that the area where Smollett said the attack occurred had “very high density of city and private surveillance cameras.” Detectives had viewed hundreds of hours of video but “unfortunately, thus far we have not found any helpful information on a suspect or a suspect’s vehicle to be able to share,” the statement said. The police were widening their search to cameras from surrounding areas.

Both of his parents, Janet Smollett and Joel Smollett Sr., were civil rights activists. He comes from a family of performers: he and all five of his siblings were cast on the 1994 ABC sitcom “On Our Own.” Jurnee Smollett-Bell, a sister, has appeared on the TV series “Underground,” “True Blood” and “Friday Night Lights.”

Poging tot hoor en wederhoor zoals het een fatsoenlijk medium betaamt.

Feitelijk weergave van politieke reacties,

Summiere achtergrondinformatie over het Smollet.

Wat cijfers over haatmisdrijven in de VS.

Zoals je ziet staat er geen feitelijk onjuist informatie in het artikel en is het verder ook niet opiniërend. Men spreekt zich niet uit over de juistheid van claims die gedaan worden door vermeend slachtoffer en politie.
Daar zit natuurlijk ook het verschil met een Fox News, waar men vol in de opiniërende aanval gaat in dit soort gevallen.
Ik snap dat dat onderscheid voor mensen lastig is, maar het is wel cruciaal als je je wilt ontwikkelen tot kritische mediaconsument in plaats van hokjesdenkend schaapje.
