MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow connects the dots between Russians trying to shut down Mueller investigations
quote:MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow on Monday revealed the bizarre link between a “lurid” murder-for-hire case in North Carolina and apparent Russian efforts to undermine the investigations into Donald Trump by special counsel Robert Mueller.
Maddow recounted the tale of Leonid Teyf, whom federal prosecutors allege plotted to kill the son of a former housekeeper because he suspected the man was having an affair with his wife.
As part of the investigation, prosecutors uncovered a $150 million kickback scheme that was allegedly defrauding the Russian Federation.
“The money-laundering scheme dates back to around 2010, during Teyf’s time as deputy director of a company called Voentorg that provided Russia’s military with laundry, food and other equipment, according to a federal indictment,” NBC News reported in December. “Voentorg, in turn, sought goods from subcontractors and Teyf demanded a cut of government funds they were paid — kickbacks that grew to $150 million in cash over a two-year period, prosecutors said.”
Maddow focused on the $150 million, which was only Teyf’s alleged cut of the kickback scheme.
“It’s interesting though, this is a U.S. criminal case. All of that money was allegedly stolen from Russian defense contracts, but the government in Russia apparently does not much seem to mind,” she noted.
“They have not been pursuing this guy for this, it’s U.S. prosecutors who are pursuing him and it’s U.S. prosecutors who are saying he did it and that — that may be an important clue as to what’s really going on here and the overall importance of this case,” Maddow explained.
“On its face, this is a riveting, lurid crime story which has been a real focus for local news in North Carolina for weeks now, for all sorts of obvious reasons,” she explained. “The condo with no furniture in it — stashed full of guns and ammo and money — and the hitman and bribe for the deportation and the hiding of the gun with the obliterated serial number under a bush at the car wash and the mansion and expensive cars.”
Maddow explained Yevgeny Prigozhin’s connection to the case — and the alleged fraud. Prigozhin is known as “Putin’s Chef” for the oligarch’s closeness to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Then Maddow brought it all together by explaining the connection of Prigozhin’s efforts to undermine the special counsel investigations.

Russian lawyer at Trump Tower meeting charged in separate case
quote:A Russian lawyer whose role at a 2016 meeting at Trump Tower has come under scrutiny from special counsel Robert S. Mueller III was charged Tuesday in a separate case with obstructing justice in a money-laundering investigation.
Natalia Veselnitskaya became a central figure in the Mueller probe when it was revealed that in June 2016, she met with Donald Trump Jr., after an intermediary indicated she had dirt on Hillary Clinton.
But the charges unsealed Tuesday say she made a “misleading declaration” to the court in a civil case.
Veselnitskaya, the Russian lawyer who met with Donald Trump Jr. and others at Trump Tower in Manhattan on June 9, 2016, represented Prevezon Holdings in a civil case in which the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan sought millions of dollars in forfeiture from the company and others. The department had alleged in a civil complaint that a Russian criminal organization ran an elaborate tax refund scheme, stealing the identities of targeted companies and filing sham lawsuits to incur fake losses for refund purposes.
Those involved made about $230 million in tax refunds, prosecutors said, and filtered the money through shell companies and eventually into Prevezon, a Cyprus-based real estate corporation. Prevezon, prosecutors said, laundered the funds into real estate, including by investing in high end commercial property and luxury apartments in Manhattan.
The parent company of the victim firms hired attorneys to investigate after learning of the sham lawsuits, including Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, and they uncovered the fraud scheme, in which Russian government officials were complicit, prosecutors said.
Magnitsky was then arrested and died in custody. On the day he died, prosecutors said, he was beaten by guards with a rubber baton, and an ambulance crew called to treat him was deliberately kept outside of his cell until he was dead. The incident sparked the U.S. to pass the Magnitsky Act, which allowed the U.S. to sanction officials found to have committed human rights violations in Russia.
Last year, the U.S. attorney’s office settled its civil case against Prevezon for more than $5.8 million.

De rechter heeft zn plannen toch al afgeblazen? Als hij de noodtoestand groen licht geeft en je genoemde aankondiging doet en een rechter blaast het weer af.. dan kan hij het nog zo leuk brengen, dan zullen de democraten en veel republikeinen 'm uitlachen.quote:

zoals ik eerder schreef denk ik dat het bereiken van de noodtoestand Trump een heel vrij speelveld geeft om te doen wat anders werd afgeblazen (een hele lijst + eventuele extra's) en dat speelveld zal hij vermoedelijk niet snel opgeven. In die noodtoestand kan ook iets gebouwd worden.
