Olympische Spelen 2024
De Olympische Spelen 2012 zullen na ruim twee weken afgesloten worden met een indrukwekkende sluitingsceremonie. De sporters hebben gestreden en de medailles zijn verdeeld. Het zit er op. Zoals London 2012 begon met een specataculaire Openingsceremonie, wordt het grootste sportevenement ter wereld ook weer traditioneel afgesloten met een spetterende slotshow. Deze vindt plaats in het Olympische Stadion in het Olympic Park. De Olympische vlam zal gedoofd worden en de fakkel wordt overgedragen aan Rio de Janeiro, de organiserende stad van de Spelen in 2016.
Langzaam maar zeker worden er steeds meer details bekend gemaakt over de sluitingsceremonie van de Olympische Spelen 2012 in Londen.
Een paar facts op een rijtje:
•De Sluitingsceremonie wordt verzorgd door Artistic Director Kim Gavin en zijn team die een onvergetelijk spektakel neer zullen zetten.
•Het thema van de sluitingsceremonie is 'A Symphony of British Music'. Er wordt gevierd dat muziek een van de sterkste Britse exportproducten van de afgelopen 50 jaar was. Welke artiesten er precies zullen optreden is nog niet bekend.
•De wereldwijde uitzending van de ceremonie zal beginnen om 21 uur (Britse tijd).
•Een totale cast van 15.000 personen werkt mee aan de openings- en sluitingsceremonie, waaronder duizenden vrijwilligers.
•De vlaggendragers en alle atleten zullen hun laatste rondje in het stadion doen. De atleten zullen gezamenlijk het veld betreden als een 'natie'.
•Na binnenkomst worden drie vlaggen aan de vlaggenmasten gehesen: de Griekse vlag, de vlag van Groot Brittannië en de vlag van Brazilië. De burgemeester van Londen geeft de Olympische Vlag terug aan de voorzitter van het Olympisch Comité en deze overhandigt de Vlag symbolisch aan de burgemeester van Rio de Janeiro.
•Met een slotspeech beëindigt de voorzitter de Olympische Spelen.
•En tot slot zal de Olympische vlam, die brandt sinds de opening van de Spelen, worden gedoofd. Een aangrijpend en ontroerend moment voor alle betrokkenen bij de Spelen.

Duidelijk is in ieder geval dat The Who, Muse en George Michael zullen optreden. De sluitingsceremonie begint zondagavond om 22.00 uur Nederlandse tijd.

The Spice Girls, opgericht in 1996, was een van de best verkopende meidengroepen uit de popgeschiedenis. De groep bestond oorspronkelijk uit vijf zangeressen, van wie er één - Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell - al in 1998 afscheid nam.
De overige vier, Victoria Beckham (Posh), Emma Bunton (Baby), Melanie Chishom (Sporty) en Melanie Brown (Scary), gingen nog door tot 2001. Daarna stopte de productie van nieuwe albums en concerten.

In 2007 traden de vijf dames toch weer samen op tijdens de 'Return of the Spice Girl'-tour, waarbij ze diverse landen aandeden. Ook brachten ze twee nieuwe songs uit. Daarna ging ieder zijn eigen weg.
Tussen de groepsleden zouden veel onderliggende spanningen en ruzies zijn. Een nieuwe reünie leek dan ook niet erg waarschijnlijk. Maar de foto's in The Sun bewijzen het tegendeel. Posh, Scary, Baby, Sporty en Ginger Spice zijn daarop te zien terwijl ze zingen en dansen op de daken van Londense taxi's.
De vijf dames zijn niet de enigen die gespot zijn bij de repetities. Ook George Michael, Annie Lennox, Kate Bush, Brian May, The Kaiser Chiefs, Madness en de Pet Shop Boys zullen waarschijnlijk zondag optreden.
