In two seasons since the Patriots drafted him in the seventh round out of Baylor, Andrews returned four kickoffs for 149 yards, including a 77-yard touchdown last season, and had 24 tackles, all but one on special teams.

See all those fans in that picture? They are dirty, filthy people who are running afoul of Arrowhead Stadium law and should be ejected and beaten with a railroad spike.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a "Fan Code of Conduct," which is essentially a list of rules that fans have to follow when they're attending a game at Arrowhead. In theory, it's not a bad idea, as you'd like your stadium to provide a friendly atmosphere for families and people who aren't drunken hooligans.

In practice, though, it might not be such a great idea, especially if the person responsible for coming up with the rules is an 85-year-old woman who teaches the 2nd grade and regards standing up as one of the evil things that young whippersnappers often do. Seriously, standing erect is the No. 2 item on the list of things that are prohibited:

• Standing and/or obstructing the view of other fans

Not only that, Pro Football Talk points out how seated fans can anonymously tattle on their upright counterparts:

The Chiefs also have set up a text-messaging system that allows fans who might be offended by behaviors like standing to report the situation to the powers-that-be.

Awesome. I hear they're even taking the extra step and including bed pans with every seat, so no one has to get up to use the bathroom. They're going to make the beer and peanut vendors crawl through the stadium on all fours. Also, as soon as you get to your seat and sit down, an usher's going to come by and inject you with a temporary paralytic.

Maybe I'm overreacting. The anti-standing policy might only be temporary. Maybe they'll lift the ban when the Chiefs can field an offense that might actually score a touchdown every now and then and might give fans a reason to stand. Maybe this is only the policy until Brodie Croyle improved or is replaced.

Still, it seems like an asinine, joyless, and dangerous policy. If standing is banned, we can't be far away from banning yelling, too, can we? I'm all for a friendly fan experience, but I'd also rather not turn Arrowhead into the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Vick filed Chapter 11 papers in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Newport News on Monday. The seven largest creditors listed in the court papers are owed a total of about $12.8 million.

The suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback hopes he "can, after the conclusion of the bankruptcy case, rebuild his life on a personal and spiritual level, resurrect his image as a public figure, and resolve matters with the NFL such that he can resume his career," according to the filings.

Vick is serving a 23-month prison sentence at the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kan., after pleading guilty last year to bankrolling a dogfighting ring. He was subsequently suspended indefinitely without pay and lost all his major sponsors, including Nike. He also faces state charges related to dogfighting.

The debt includes part of a signing bonus that the Falcons are seeking to recover.

After the plea on dogfighting charges, the Falcons tried to recover about $20 million in bonuses Vick earned from 2004 to 2007. But a federal judge held that Vick is entitled to keep all but $3.75 million of the money paid to him for playing football through the 2014 season.

According to the filings, Vick's other debts include $4.5 million owed to Richmond-based Joel Enterprises Inc., and $550,0000 owed to Radtke Sports Inc. for breach of contract.

In May, a federal judge ordered Vick to repay about $2.5 million to a Canadian bank for defaulting on a loan. The Royal Bank of Canada had sued Vick in September, arguing his guilty plea to a federal dogfighting charge -- and the resulting impact on his career -- prevented him from repaying the loan.

A default judgment for $1.08 million also was entered in January against Vick and a business partner in a lawsuit brought by Wachovia Bank over a loan for an Atlanta-area wine shop and restaurant.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that Brett Favre and his agent have sent a letter asking the Green Bay Packers to release him.

According to Mortensen, the letter was sent via overnight mail on Thursday and arrived at the Packers’ facility this morning. Favre is currently on the team’s reserve-retired list, but under league rule, if Favre requests to be taken off that list, the Packers are required to either put him on their active roster or release him. So far, Favre has not made that request.

Mortensen also reports that Favre and agent Bus Cook had a conference call on Tuesday with Packers General Manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy, and Favre told the men he wants to play in the NFL again.

Favre is reportedly in good shape and is regularly throwing and running with a high school team in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

On Friday, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Favre had requested an amicable and unconditional release from the Packers via letter, attributing sources close to the player and team.

Neither Thompson nor McCarthy had expressed optimism Tuesday concerning a possible return during a conference call with Favre and his agent, James Cook, according to the sources.

Favre, who led the Packers to a Super Bowl title after the 1996 season, held a tearful news conference to announce his retirement March 6. The Packers planned to begin the season with Aaron Rodgers as the starting quarterback.

Favre, who was placed on the reserve-retired list in late April, has three years and $39 million left on his contract with the Packers.

To be reinstated, Favre must apply through commissioner Roger Goodell. That would force the Packers to activate the 16-year veteran.

McCarthy said he and Thompson were in constant communication with Favre throughout the offseason.

"Quite frankly, it's a little gut-wrenching as an organization to go through it, and certainly for Mike and myself," Thompson said. "This stuff hurts a lot of people. I mean, it hurts. I'm not talking about physically hurting, but the sensitivity. We understand where the fans are coming from. This is a hot-button issue that surpasses anything I've ever gone through."

He was a great player for us for a long time, and I consider him not only a significant part of our history, but also a personal friend.”

The NFL Players’ Association, which steadfastly insists that its sole responsibility is the welfare of active players, declined to comment to the Enquirer.

The person said the league already has reviewed evidence provided by the Packers, and team officials believe a league examination of telephone records would indicate more than "normal contact" between Favre and Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, a former Green Bay assistant. According to the person, Packers officials also believe the contact began before Favre and his agent, Bus Cook, formally asked the Packers to release him.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league had no comment on the report. Cook did not return a telephone message left by The Associated Press earlier Wednesday.

The Post-Dispatch originally reported last week that the deadline for Jackson to report would be Aug. 8 — this Friday — or 30 days before the Rams' season opener at Philadelphia, on Sept. 7.

Because the Washington Redskins and New York Giants open the season on Sept. 4, a Thursday, the deadline for Jackson to report without losing credit is 30 days before that contest — today.

Jackson already has four years of NFL experience, which normally is the minimum seniority necessary to be eligible for unrestricted free agency. But if club owners void the current collective bargaining agreement, as is possible this fall, players would then need six years seniority to be eligible for free agency after the 2009 season.

If that's the case, the following doomsday situation could develop for Jackson:

— With no contract extension, Jackson plays out 2008 under the final year of his current deal.

— In 2009, he is given the franchise tag by the Rams.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre spoke directly with Bucs coach Jon Gruden Tuesday night about a possible trade to Tampa Bay.

As of midnight (EDT), Favre did not believe a trade was imminent because the Packers had been insisting on receiving a first-round pick from the Bucs, an NFC team, while asking for lower compensation from the New York Jets of the AFC.

Favre told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that the Packers had lowered their demands of the Bucs to include a conditional pick and possibly a player.

Bucs backup quarterback Brian Griese, who was acquired in a trade with the Chicago Bears in March, could be part of a trade with the Packers. Green Bay is committed to Aaron Rodgers and does not have a quarterback who has ever started an NFL game. The Bucs have five quarterbacks on their roster, including Jeff Garcia. But Garcia has only a $2-million base salary and would have the most value to the Bucs as a backup to Favre.

Favre also spoke with the New York Jets on Tuesday.

If Favre is traded to the Bucs, there would have to be some compromise between the three-time MVP and Gruden.

Even though the Bucs play a version of the West Coast offense, Gruden's system is heavy in verbiage.

Any deal involving Favre would likely have to be completed within the next 24 hours.

Despite indications that quarterback Brett Favre wanted to be traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Favre apparently is accepting the trade to the Jets.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Favre will fly to New York on Thursday, take a helicopter tour of New York City, visit the team’s new training complex, and then join his teammates in Cleveland for the preseason opener.

With Chad Pennington likely to be dumped, Kellen Clemens, Erik Ainge, and Brett Ratliff will take the snaps on Thursday night against the Browns.

Schefter reports that the Packers will receive a first-round pick for quarterback Brett Favre, but only if the Jets win the Super Bowl.

The Packers get a fourth-round pick for Favre. It becomes a third-round pick if Favre takes 50 percent of the snaps. It moves to a second-rounder if Favre participates in 70 percent of the plays and the Jets qualify for the playoffs.

Finally, the pick goes to a first-rounder if Favre takes 80 percent of the snaps and the Jets make it to the Super Bowl.

Schefter also reports that, if the Jets were to trade Favre to the Vikings, the Jets would owe the Packers three first-round picks.
