Dat zou leuk zijn, maar ok als ze een belastingverlaging invoeren met terugwerkende kracht, krijg je hooguit later wat meer geld terug (en zal de amerikaanse firma's vermoedelijk hooguit pas in 2018 meer geld terugkrijgen, of bv hun belastingafdracht dan kunnen verrekenen met het eerdere 'voordeel')
als de VS bv het doorvoert via een repatration Tax Holiday zou het vooal gaan om belasting dat voorheen in het buitenland gestald is door bedrijven en er een methode zijn om dan belasting te vermijden als deze bedrijven die vermogens alsnog naar de VS brengen.. eigenlijk vooral een vorm van het legaliseren en faciliteren van Belasting-ontwijking door bedrijven..
Dat heeft de Senaat al eerder, in 2004 gedaan en uit cijfers bleek dat dat de amerikaanse staat ongeveer 4 miljad dolar gekost had en dat de betreffende bedrijven tegelijkertijd juist 20.000 Jobs wegsaneerden en ook juist hun investeringsbudget verlaagden
Vanwege die eerdere mislukking stemde de senaat ook een voorstel die Repatration Tax te herhalen in 2009 ruimschoots weg
