Ik ben eerlijk gezegd benieuwd naar die nieuwe tracks. En komt de live versie van Children Of The Sea uit Live Evil? Verder lijkt het me een goede lijst, maar ik mis het nummer: The Sign Of The Southern Cross, eentje die toch een van de betere is op The Mob Rules.

Het nummer heeft zo op het eerste gehoor weer goed riff werk in de lijn van Iommi's laatste album 'Fused', Dio's zang is iets minder geslaagd vind ik. (misschien de leeftijd?)
Aardige riffs, maar ja dat kun je wel aan Iommi toevertrouwen. Maar verder een vrij saai nummer. tis natuurlijk ook niet echt Sabbath, maar ja ik ben benieuwd naar de overige nieuwe nummers

De kritiek op de zang begrijp ik, Dio zingt al heel lang zo, maar volgens mij kan hij ook nog zingen zoals op "Love Is All", ik denk alleen dat hij er niet voor kiest dat te doen.

Daarbij had niemand van de bandleden er iets mee te maken, Iommi was niet lang daarna zelfs nog bij een Clive Burr evenement aanwezig met een aantal leden van Maiden.

Aangezien Iommi de meeste nummers schreef, en Geezer de (meeste) teksten, is het nog altijd Sabbath. En qua zang, ik moet toegeven dat met Osbourne de band wat meer Sabbath klonk dan met Dio. Het enige wat Ozzy aan de band heeft bijgedragen zijn zijn zanglijnen en twee zelf geschreven nummers die buitengewoon onder de maat zijn. Goed zijn zang paste bij de muziek maar hij is niet onvervangbaar; er zijn genoeg andere mensen die niet kunnen zingen en een belabberde frontman uitstraling hebben.
Sterker nog, ik heb nooit een beter Black Sabbath concert gezien dan met Tony Martin als zanger en die is nou niet direct gezegend met een geweldige uitstraling. Maar alles beter dan Ozzy de Clownquote:Op donderdag 1 maart 2007 19:30 schreef Djaser het volgende:

Ik houd écht van het nummer Symptoms of the Universe. Volgens mij niet zo heel bekend, maar wat een geniaal nummer. Ik krijg daar zo'n lekker rock & roll gevoel bij. Vooral die gitaarriff, prachtig.
Goed nummer inderdaad, mooi contrast ook op het laatste. Check ook de Sepultura cover en de verzamelaar waar die opstaat, Nativity In Black #1.

dit is ook tof al hoewel niet officieel.
Bovenstaande lijkt me opzich wel interessant(Falling Of The Edge Of The World, Lady Evil, Lonely Is The Word), maar ik vind de vocalen van Dio wel iets te matig om de dvd aan te schaffen, aangezien ik ook al spijt heb van de aanschaf van DIO - Holy Diver Live.
Heeft iemand hier trouwens Live At Hammersmith Odeon kunnen bemachtigen?

Holy Diver heb ik ook erg negatieve reviews en interviews over gelezen. Volgens mij is Dio hier stukken beter bij stem, ik stoor me niet aan hem.
Holy Diver Live heb ik vooral gekocht doordat er enkele nummers waren(Tarot Woman, Gates Of Babylon) nog nooit live had gehoord, en er geen platen zijn waarop deze live staan bij de oorspronkelijke band. Dezelfde reden als waarom ik die dvd zou kopen, maar dan luister ik liever naar Live Evil, wat mij vocaal en muzikaal wat beter in de oren klinkt dan een huidig concert van H&H(dergelijke nostalgiebands moet je live zien, niet op dvd kijken).quote:Op woensdag 26 september 2007 17:39 schreef Djaser het volgende:

Ik had natuurlijk ook liever een dvd van een optreden uit 1981 gehad maar dat zit er nu eenmaal niet in. Nogmaals, ik vind dit zeker geen slecht alternatief.
Qua materiaal zeker niet, maargoed, meer livewerk '80 zit er niet in(behalve als ze de oplage van Live at Hammersmith Odeon vergroten). Ik ben ook voorstander van Ozzy periode, maar laat mijn favoriete album nu toch Heaven and hell zijn.

LOS ANGELES -- After finishing several heralded world tours as Heaven & Hell last summer, Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Vinny Appice were tighter than ever before, both musically and personally. Agreeing that it would be a shame to stop making music together at tour's end, the quartet began writing, first in England at Iommi's home studio and later in Los Angeles at Dio's studio. "The band had gotten too good to just walk away," Dio says. "We wanted to show people that we were still capable of giving them new music that measured up to what we'd done in the past."
With that goal in mind, the band once again converged on Rockfield Studios in Wales last winter, the same place they used 17 years earlier to record their last album, Dehumanizer. The result is the long awaited new album THE DEVIL YOU KNOW, featuring 10 soon-to-be-classic tracks from the Dio-fronted version of Black Sabbath. The highly anticipated set arrives on April 28 from Rhino for a suggested list price of $18.98 (physical) and $9.99 (digital).
It took less than three weeks to finish the album, with most of the songs only needing a couple of takes. "It was good to play them live in the studio. It keeps you on edge," Iommi says. "I mean, somewhere along the line we were gonna have to play them live; might as well start in the studio." Butler adds: "We've learned from the past that you can kill a song doing it over and over. The first Sabbath albums were done in two or three days. Technically they weren't great, but vibe-wise they were great. If you capture that feeling, that's all you need."
"Bible Black," the epic first single, begins with Iommi on acoustic guitar behind Dio's plaintive wail before the rhythm shifts to a menacing stomp for the rest of this dark tale about a book of sinister scriptures. One of the first songs written for the album, Dio says it established a tone for the rest of the album. "When you start off with a blockbuster like that, it makes the rest of the album so much easier because it gives you a benchmark to measure the other songs against."
Iommi proves he hasn't lost the ability to inspire six-string envy, unleashing riffs like a pack of rabid hellhounds on "Atom And Evil," "Fear," "Neverwhere," and "Eating The Cannibals," a tune about doing more than biting the hand that feeds. Butler and Appice slow the pace while ramping up the intensity on "Follow The Tears" and "Double The Pain" and "Breaking Into Heaven," the latter diverging from its glacial procession for Dio's majestic chorus about fallen angels planning an attack on paradise.

Vond het verhaal van Ward heel goed. Hij krijgt maar een paar nummers aangeboden om te spelen. Daar bedankt ie voor. Terecht lijkt me.

I feel sad to see the Sabbath reunion becoming a bit of a soap opera on the internet. It has been a very tough year for us as a band, having announced our reunion plans, only for Tony to be diagnosed with lymphoma, leaving us no choice but to postpone the proposed Sabbath tour, and then for Bill to go public on his site about an un-signable contract. None of us knew how Tony was going to respond to his intensive chemo therapy, and radiotherapy. Ozzy and myself flew to England to be with Tony, and on his “good” days, we’d meet at his home studio and put ideas together for the upcoming album, all sitting down together, no drummer involved, just 3 of us quietly putting together ideas. We thought that when we had enough songs together for a full band rehearsal, we’d move back to L.A and put the whole thing together with Bill. Unfortunately, to our surprise, Bill issued a statement on his site saying he’d been offered an un-signable contract. He hadn’t told any one of us he was having contractual problems, and frankly those things are worked out between our representatives, and never between the four of us let alone in public. We had the idea of keeping just one show in this year, hoping that Tony would be well enough for that show, and that things with Bill would be sorted. As you may expect, a one off show at Donnington Festival (Download) costs an absolute fortune to stage, involving over 50 people, transport, air fares, hotels, meals, agents, promotors, accountants, lawyers etc, so none of us, expected to make much money from it- it was a one off Sabbath show for the fans, before we go into recording the new album. Apparently, this wasn’t acceptable to Bill’s representatives, they wanted an amount that was so unrealistic that it seemed to have been a joke. So we resigned ourselves to doing Download without Bill, hoping he’d change his mind and at least make a guest appearance. We started rehearsals a few weeks ago with Tommy Cluefetos, the drummer who will be on the Ozzy and Friends Tour. Brilliant drummer and good bloke. It was decided we’d better do a warm up show, to break the ice since we haven’t played together live. The O2 Academy was available in Birmingham, where we were rehearsing, so we decided on that, and to make a donation to Help For Heroes Charity, since we’d be ironing out any glitches we may have. Then Bill put out a further statement saying he’d been ready to play the Birmingham show , but he was expected to have to do it “for free”- well, I think that’s basically how you raise money from gigs for charity – you play them “for free”.
All I am saying is that there are two sides to everything. I do hope to play with Bill again some day. For whatever reason; it wasn’t meant to be this time. Bill’s made his decision, and I have to respect that. Hopefully this painful year will be worth the wait for the new Sabbath album and end in joy and happiness for all.

1) I had indeed notified Ozzy, Tony and Geezer, well before my first public statement, that I was having contractual difficulties.

4) My Download fee was not an extravagant amount. Originally, when Download was part of a full tour, I had asked for a decent fee. More recently, as we were negotiating just Download/Birmingham and Lollapalooza, I told my attorney that I would accept the proposed small Download fee, but there were other parts of the offer that were unsatisfactory.
I will continue to be honest and respectful towards the band and our fans. I will also confront any untruths about me, and any fault finding missions aimed at me that come to my attention.
I hope the band and the fans had a good gig in Brum.
