Midland heeft zojuist bekendgemaakt dat het voor vanavond 19:00 een persconferentie belegt waarin het zal aankondigen dat het zijn renstal verkoopt aan Michiel Mol, leider van het zogenaamde M-consortium.
Het is voor het eerst dat een interne partij bevestigt dat de deal rond is. Later vandaag daarom meer details over het al dan niet rondkomen van de motorendeal en het mogelijke overstappen van verschillend technisch personeel.
Rond de verkoop circuleerden al een aantal dagen verschillende geruchten dat de renstal inmiddels al verkocht zou zijn. dat was tot hedenochtend nog niet zo: Michiel Mol verklaarde in gesprek met autosport.com dat ook vandaag nog afrondende gesprekken moesten worden gevoerd.
Het nieuws komt echter niet als een grote verrassing, al langer was zo goed als zeker dat de verkoop daadwerkelijk plaats zou gaan vinden. De vraag was enkel wanneer de bekendmaking zou zijn. Dit lijkt nu naar alle waarschijnlijkheid zaterdagavond te worden.

Indien het M-consortium er in weet te slagen om MF1 Racing over te nemen van de Canadees Alex Shnaider, dan weet het wellicht twee vliegen in een klap te slaan. Naast de intrede in de Formule 1 zal het team niet lang meer hoeven te zoeken naar een ervaren en zeer succesvol ontwerper. Mike Cascoyne zou op het punt staan een contract te tekenen bij de nu nog Russische Midland-renstal, zo onthult Autosport.com.
Aanvankelijk zou de Brit dit seizoen werkzaam zijn voor het team van Toyota, maar beide wegen scheidden zich na afloop van de Autralische Grand Prix. Gascoyne kon zich niet vinden in de toekomstplannen van de Japanners aangaande de ontwikkeling van technische onderdelen aan de auto. Sindsdien zit de ontwerper werkloos thuis, daar een contract met Toyota hem verbood voor iemand anders werkzaam te zijn.
Aan het einde van oktober zal het contract van Cascoyne weer vrij zijn, waardoor de Brit nu zinspeelt op een overeenkomst bij Midland. Hoewel er nog geen definitieve overeenkomst beklonken is melden verschillende bronnen al dat de gesprekken in een vergevorderd stadium zouden zijn. De reden dat er nog niets getekend is lijkt de toekomst van de renstal te zijn, geld zou het probleem niet zijn.
Juist de toekomst van de Russische renstal is de laatste tijd onderwerp van gesprek in het Formule 1-paddock. Michiel Mol, internetondernemer en gepassioneerd autosportliefhebber, onderhandelt momenteel met Alex Shnaider over een overname van diens renstal. Beide partijen bevestigen vergevorderde gesprekken maar ontkennen dat er al sprake zou zijn van een contract, zoals gisteren door F1Racing.net de wereld in werd geholpen.
Met de overname zou ook het Nederlandse Spyker gemoeid zijn, welke op haar beurt al weer gelinkt wordt aan Ferrari-motoren. Het M-consortium lijkt, ook al is het niet zeker van deelname in 2007, al druk doende de organisatie voor komend seizoen op papier te zetten. Naar verluidt zal Gascoyne dan ook willen wachten met zijn besluit totdat zeker is dat de Nederlanders de scepter zullen zwaaien binnen het in Silverstone gelegerde team.
Indien de inmiddels allang verwachte overname uiteindelijk toch nog afketst, komt zowel het plaatje voor Gascoyne als voor MF1 Racing er heel anders uit te zien. Van een levering van Ferrari-motoren zou geen sprake meer zijn, waardoor Cosworth de vervanger wordt van de huidige Toyota-krachtbronnen. Het team houdt echter de kaken stijf op elkaar: “Indien we wat te melden hebben dan horen jullie dat vanzelf”, laat de renstal weten bij monde van teambaas Colin Kolles.

Het beloofde persbericht van Midland is uitgesteld. Het team gaf vanmiddag aan dat om 19:00 uur vanavond een persbericht uitgevaardigd zou worden met daarin de bekendmaking van de overname van het team. Nu is gebleken dat dat bericht later zal komen.
Een woordvoerder van MidlandF1 zei tegenover F1Racing.nl: "Het persbericht is helaas tot nader order uitgesteld. We hopen later vanavond alsnog met het nieuws te komen."
Een tijd terug (GP @ Silverstone?) waren al beelden te zien van een drietal Renault medewerkers die een bezoek brachten aan het motorhome van Toro Rosso. Vanavond hebben wederom 2 Renault medewerkers een bezoek gebracht aan het Toro Rosso motorhome. Volgens Grandprix.com waren het ' two Renault engine men'.
Het lijkt dus een kwestie van tijd tot bekend zal worden gemaakt dat Toro Rosso gaat rijden met Renault motoren.

An official announcement, which was expected this evening, was issued close to midnight at Monza, ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, stating the team was sold in full to Spyker.
"The decision to sell the team has been one of the most difficult I have ever faced," stated Midland Group Chairman Alex Shnaider. "It is never easy to relinquish something into which one has devoted so much energy and passion.
"However, as much as I had hoped to witness the continuing growth of the team under our ownership, I truly believe this transaction is in the best interests of everyone involved - Midland Group, Spyker, and the team."
Shnaider, whose Midland company bought the team from Eddie Jordan at the end of the 2004 season, added: "I am proud to be leaving the team in a much better state than it was when we acquired it 20 months ago.
"Not only is it more financially stable, it is also more competitive at the track, and getting stronger all the time.
"The creation of the 2007 car is well underway, as are major upgrades to the wind tunnel facility. Investment into the team's technical development has continued unabated throughout the season.
"At the moment, Formula One is a much more mature and understood sport in Holland than it is in Russia. I believe the new owners will be well placed to exploit the commercial and nationalistic aspects of a Dutch identity, and this is something that can only benefit the team.

In October 2004, Midland Group`s involvement in Formula One began when Mr. Shnaider confirmed his plans to lodge an entry for the 2006 season.
Although initially committed to the idea of creating a completely new team for the 2006 season, Midland instead signed an opportunistic deal to buy the Jordan Grand Prix team shortly prior to the 2005 Formula 1 season. As a result, the team competed as Jordan Grand Prix in 2005, and re-branded itself as MF1 Racing for 2006.
"The time-line was tight, but by buying Jordan, we benefited from having a ready-made team: the people, the facilities, the know-how - all the elements we were previously looking to piece together from scratch," recalls Mr. Shnaider. "Entering the sport a year ahead of schedule was easier to execute with an established team, although it still presented us with a steep learning curve in 2005. But that's OK; we learned a lot during the transition."
At the time of its acquisition by Midland, there were few tangible assets in place to ensure the participation of the Jordan team in the 2005 F1 World Championship, which commenced in March 2005 in Melbourne - barely two months after the purchase was completed.
Therefore, the first goal was to ensure that Jordan would participate in Melbourne with three cars, complying with the 2005 FIA regulations. Within a very short timeframe, MF1 Racing managed to fulfill the provisions of Jordan's prior agreement with Toyota, thus enabling receipt of engines.
The team also undertook the task of modifying the chassis to accommodate the Toyota V10 in place of the previous Cosworth powerplant; designing a new gearbox to mate with the new engine; acquiring sponsorships and signing new drivers. In less than two months, the first goal - participating with three cars in accordance with the 2005 FIA regulations - had been achieved.
The next goal was to establish the reliability of the race cars while improving the team's cost efficiency. Existing supplier relationships were examined and replaced where appropriate and where a satisfactory cost/quality correlation would be ensured.
In addition, more work was brought in-house at MF1 Racing to enhance flexibility and cost efficiency. As can be evidenced by both cars' combined race finish ratio of 84% in 2005 and progress to date in 2006, the team's mechanical reliability and consistency of performance has been successfully established.
Phase 3 was the evolution of the 2005 car, the EJ15, and increasing its competitiveness. The EJ15B aerodynamic package, which debuted at the 2005 French Grand Prix, introduced a number of performance gains. More importantly, these concepts set the stage for the development and construction of the 2006 car, the M16, and allowed the team to significantly reduce the gap to its rivals. The team is now, on average, some 2 seconds per lap closer to the front of the grid than it was a year ago.
Off the track, the team's facilities and equipment have been completely refurbished. The paddock hospitality centre has been redesigned and three state-of-the-art technical trailers have replaced the aging fleet of transporters. Investment has also been made in improving the team's factory and wind tunnel facilities, which are in the process of being upgraded in scale from 40% to 50%.
"Our plans for the team were right on target. 2005 was tough, as expected, but we relished the challenge and got on with the job," says Mr. Shnaider. "In 2006, our plans had begun to yield improved results. The team is now a whisker away from the middle of the pack - and getting closer at every race - and its reliability is better than that of a few teams higher up the grid.
"At the factory, everything has been reorganized and the team is poised to break through to the next level. Spyker recognizes that, and we have recognized in Spyker the ability to attract sponsorship from a robust and enthusiastic F1 market. We feel that these sponsor dollars, with an owner's investment similar to ours, will bring the results quicker than it would have under our plan.

Verstappen (heeft overigens al wel getekend bij A1) en Albers in 1 team lijkt mij super! Valles to test for Spyker MF1
GP2 driver Adrian Valles will test for Spyker MF1 Racing at Silverstone on September 19 and 20.
"Adrian has impressed the team with his performances in both Renault World Series and GP2," said Colin Kolles. "We understand the importance of being the first to test young talents like Adrian in order to assess their potential for Formula 1, and we are looking forward to a good performance from him."
Valles has been learning the ropes this year in GP2 and has not scored any major results.

Austrian Christian Klien will not see out the 2007 season with the Red Bull Racing team, autosport.com has learned.
Klien, who will be replaced by Mark Webber at the team next year, will not race in the final three races of the season, sources have confirmed.
The team's third driver Robert Doornbos will race alongside David Coulthard until the end of the season.
An official announcement is expected this week.
Red Bull had decided not to renew Klien's contract for next season, and the Austrian also turned down an offer from the energy drinks company to drive in the Champ Car series in 2007.
Klien said he intends to stay involved in Formula One and claimed he was in talks with a few teams over a drive for the 2007 season.

Aan de ene kant is het lastig om zo aan het eind van het seizoen int e stappen.
Aan de andere kant heeft hij al het hele jaar kunnen wennen aan de auto. Dus wat dat betreft moet het goed gaan!
