Bush is ook niet geheel clean wat deze zaak betreft, niet qua omgang met, niet qua verantwoordelijkheid (Rove, een adviseur van Bush, is tevens een hoofdrolspeler) en niet qua de gevolgen van dit schandaal in tijden waarin het Bush toch al niet voor de wind gaat:

Volgens Bush zijn de beschuldigingen dat er gelekt is gewoon volslagen belachelijk. En we weten inmiddels allemaal wel dat als Bush gelijk heeft, hij gewoon gelijk heeft. Einde discussie.

Nadat bekend werd dat Rove tegenover een verslaggever van Time gelekt had mocht Rove natuurlijk ook gewoon in het Witte Huis blijven.

Volgens het Witte Huis stapt er pas iemand op na een eventuele veroordeling, en niet eerder.
Denk ook niet dat er iemand voor die tijd uit zichzelf opstapt, of de druk moet te groot worden. Ben benieuwd hoe ver de media durft te gaan.
De republikeinse achterban zal het waarschijnlijk worst wezen. Dat hun regering loog en bedroog over Irak kon ze al weinig schelen, Bush werd gewoon herkozen, dus hier zullen ze ook wel niet wakker over liggen.

De Valerie Plame case is belangrijk. Zeer belangrijk want het gaat over hoogverraad. Hoogverraad op het aller hoogste politiek niveau. En volgens dat ik begrepen heb lachen ze in de VS daar niet mee. ( anders zeg maar dan wij europeanen ons kunnen voorstellen)
Het bewijs daarvan is de hardnekkigheid waarmee de Valerie PLame case de bush administratie achtervolgt. Deze zaak loopt denk ik al enkele maanden maar komt keer op keer boven water.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- The U.S. inquiry into how a CIA agent's name was leaked to the media has widened and now includes the office of Vice President Dick Cheney.
Lawyers who asked not to be identified told the Washington Post Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald is trying to determine if tensions between Cheney and the spy agency could have been part of the chain that led to the leak.
The cover for agent Valerie Plame was blown soon after her husband, a U.S. diplomat, criticized the Bush administration's justifications for going to war with Iraq three years ago.
One of the reporters involved spent 85 days in jail for refusing to divulge her sources at grand jury hearings.
Fitzgerald has personally interviewed numerous officials from the CIA, White House and State Department, although the Washington Post said Tuesday it was not clear whether Fitzgerald plans to charge anyone inside the Bush administration with a crime.
Administration officials are reportedly bracing for possible indictments as early as this week.

Nieuwe onthullingen in de affaire rond de CIA-agente die uit wraak in gevaar werd gebracht, brengen het Witte Huis en The New York Times in verlegenheid.
WASHINGTON, 17 OKT. De spanning loopt op. Karl Rove, de politiek adviseur van de Amerikaanse president George W. Bush, zegde afgelopen weekeinde op een laat moment een toespraak af op een bijeenkomst met politieke vrienden in Virginia. Niks voor hem.
Rove ligt onder vuur omdat hij met anderen vanuit het Witte Huis een wraakactie ondernam tegen een ambtenaar die de grondslag voor de oorlog in Irak betwistte.
Vrijdag nog werd hij ruim drie uur verhoord door de aanklager in de affaire. Over het verhoor is vrijwel niets bekend geworden, maar er wordt intens gespeculeerd over een naderend vertrek van Bush’ belangrijkste adviseur. Het onderzoek moet uiterlijk volgende week zijn afgerond.
Gisteren verhoogde de krant The New York Times de spanning door te onthullen dat Rove’s opereren onderdeel uitmaakte van een bredere strategie van het Witte Huis. De krant beschreef dat ook een andere prominente Witte Huis-medewerker betrokken was bij het zwart maken van de ongehoorzame ambtenaar inzake ‘Irak’. Het gaat om Lewis ‘Scooter’ Libby, topadviseur van vice-president Dick Cheney.
Libby’s naam zong al rond, maar een bevestiging ontbrak tot nu toe.
The New York Times is in dit geval een doorslaggevende bron. De verslaggever met wie Libby sprak, Judith Miller, zat enkele maanden in hechtenis omdat ze weigerde de identiteit van haar gesprekspartner prijs te geven. Nadat ze vorige week alsnog een getuigenis aflegde, beschreef ze gisteren de drie gesprekken die ze in 2003 met de topadviseur van Cheney voerde. De krant publiceerde daarnaast een uitvoerige reconstructie.
De zaak draait om ambassadeur Joseph Wilson en zijn vrouw, CIAundercover agente Valerie Plame.
Wilson deed in 2002 voor de CIA onderzoek of Saddam Hussein in Niger had geprobeerd onderdelen voor nucleaire wapens te kopen.
Zijn conclusie was nee. Toch noemde president Bush in 2003 aan de vooravond van de oorlog dit als een reden voor de inval in Irak.
Toen na de oorlog geen massavernietigingswapens werden gevonden, beschreef Wilson in een opiniestuk in dezelfde New York Times dat de regering-Bush het gevaar van Irak bewust had overdreven.
Hierna werd vanuit het Witte Huis, aldus Wilson, de identiteit en functie van zijn echtgenote onthuld, die daardoor vreesde voor haar leven. De CIA deed aangifte, een speciale aanklager begon een onderzoek.
Uit de gisteren gepubliceerde stukken blijkt hoezeer het Witte Huis erop gebrand was Wilson te grazen te nemen. De motivatie was puur politiek. Duidelijk moest worden, vond Libby, dat Bush onjuiste verklaringen over het Iraakse regime had afgelegd omdat de CIA de regering verkeerd inlichtte.
Van de missie van ,,die heimelijke gozer’’, Joseph Wilson, naar Niger had Cheney nooit geweten. En al in het eerste gesprek gaf Libby de hint dat er sprake was van nepotisme door het werk van Wilsons vrouw bij de CIA te noemen – waarover hij Miller later meer details gaf.
De reconstructie van de krant komt vrijwel overeen met wat Karl Rove omstreeks dezelfde tijd aan het weekblad Time vertelde en waarover het weekblad deze zomer al publiceerde. Ook Rove kleineerde Wilson door te suggereren dat hij de trip naar Niger alleen had gemaakt omdat zijn vrouw bij de CIA werkte. De president en de leiding van de CIA hadden nooit van de trip geweten, aldus Rove volgens Time.
Het strafrechtelijk onderzoek draait erom of Rove en Libby illegaal handelden door de naam van de geheim agente bekend te maken.
Er lijkt alleen bewijs dat de twee haar werkgever en echtgenoot noemden, niet haar naam. Er is dus een kans dat deze zaak, ondanks alle opwinding, eindigt zonder vervolging.
Wat hier tegen pleit, is dat Rove voor zijn vierde verhoor, vrijdag, te horen kreeg dat de aanklager vervolging niet uitsluit, terwijl vaststaat dat de topadviseur van Bush in zijn eerdere verklaringen is ‘vergeten’ te vertellen van het gesprek met de Time-verslaggever. Iets soortgelijks is er met Libby. Hij liet zijn eerste gesprek met Miller – dat lange tijd niet bekend was bij de aanklager – aanvankelijk onvermeld.
In beide gevallen is een vervolging voor meineed kansrijk, aldus betrokken advocaten bij de zaak. Dan moeten de president én de vice-president vermoedelijk hun voornaamste adviseurs ontslaan.
. Principes gaan boven tradities.En als die adviseurs officieel aftreden. Zullen ze vast echt nog wel (onofficieel) blijven adviseren.

If Rove is forced to step aside, among the replacements being considered are Dan Bartlett, currently Bush´s counselor and himself a regular participant in the WHIG; Ken Mehlman, chairman of the RNC; and Robert M. Kimmitt, Deputy Treasury Secretary.
* U.S. News and World Report reports that there are rumors that Cheney might step aside, and that Bush might elevate Condi Rice. Of course, Rice herself is a member of the WHIG.
* The Raw Story reports that John Hannah, a senior national security aide on loan to Cheney from the offices of then-Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Affairs, John Bolton, was named as a target of Fitzgerald´s probe. If Hannah is cooperating with Fitzgerald he is likely to be charged as a co-conspirator and may have cut a deal. Those close to the investigation said in June 2003 Hannah was given orders by higher-ups in Cheney´s office to leak Plame´s covert status and identity. Fitzgerald may be looking at the WHIG and the Pentagon´s Office of Net Assessment, the former operating out of Cheney´s office and the latter out of Defense Under Secretary for Policy, Douglas Feith´s office. Hannah is under investigation for his activities in an intelligence program run by Chalabi´s INC. INC was providing intelligence through Hannah and Scooter Libby. Joe Wilson himself identifies Hannah and David Wurmser as possible sources of the leak in his book The Politics of Truth.
* The Raw Story later reports in another story that a second Cheney aide is cooperating with Fitzgerald and identifies David Wurmser. Both Hannah and Wurmser worked for John Bolton.
* The Raw Story reports that Rep. Conyers and Rep. Ike Skelton sent Rumsfeld a letter demanding an explanation of Miller´s top secret security clearance, which Rumsfeld reportedly personally authorized. In April 2003, Judith Miller "took custody" of Saddam Hussein´s son-in-law. She also sat in on the initial debriefing of Jamal Sultan Tikriti. One military officer says that Miller sometimes "intimidated" Army soldiers by invoking Rumsfeld or Douglas Feith. Given her relationship to Rumsfeld and Feith, among others, Judith Miller has clearly given a new meaning to the term "em-bedded."
* The National Journal reports that according to attorneys, Libby told the grand jury that in the July 8, 2003 meeting with Judith Miller, he did not know Wilson´s wife worked for the CIA or anything else about her. Libby did not disclose the June 23 meeting with Miller in two appearances before the grand jury or in interviews with the FBI. The article reviews various attempts to influence Miller´s testimony, including the fact that on Sept. 29, the night before Miller testified, a source sympathetic to Libby spoke to journalists from at least three news organiations to leak word as to what Libby himself had said in his own testimony. Journalists at two news organizations declined to publish the story, but the WaPo did post an account on its Web site, implicating itself in an effort by Libby to tamper with Miller´s testimony.

Report: Cheney withheld info from Senate
WASHINGTON, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Vice President Dick Cheney and his chief of staff withheld documents from a Senate committee looking into intelligence on Iraq, the National Journal reported.
The documents included drafts of portions of a speech Colin Powell, then secretary of state, gave at the United Nations in February 2003, the newspaper said. The portions were written by I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Cheney's chief of staff.
The Senate Intelligence Committee held hearings on the actions of intelligence agencies during the preparation for the 2003 invasion of Iraq but did not investigate questions concerning how the administration used the intelligence to build public support for the war.
The committee also sought information from the president's daily briefing in the period before the invasion. A former senior administration official told the National Journal the decision to withhold the documents was at least partly political.
"Nobody wants something like this dissected or coming out in an election year," the former official said.
The disclosure comes at a time when Libby and President Bush's top political adviser Karl Rove face possible prosecution in connection with the leak of CIA agent Valerie Plame's identity.

White House braces for likely charges over CIA leak

WASHINGTON, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff and other top White House officials braced for criminal charges on Friday from the federal grand jury investigating the leak of a covert CIA operative's identity.
The grand jury was expected to convene in the morning to consider the first charges in the two-year probe led by special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald.
Legal sources involved in the case said Cheney's chief of staff, Lewis Libby, appeared likely to be charged with making false statements to the grand jury.
Fitzgerald has also zeroed in on Karl Rove, President George W. Bush's top political adviser, possibly for perjury. But lawyers involved in the case said Fitzgerald may not be prepared at this time to bring charges against Rove.
The New York Times, citing people briefed officially about the case, said Rove would not be indicted along with Libby on Friday but would remain under investigation.
Despite initial denials, both Rove and Libby spoke to reporters in June and July 2003 about the CIA operative, Valerie Plame.
It was unclear how Fitzgerald would keep the Rove investigation going since the current grand jury is scheduled to expire on Friday.
The Times said Fitzgerald was likely to extend its term. But federal guidelines suggest that Fitzgerald would have to seek a new grand jury because the current one has served the maximum allowable amount of time.
Other current and former administration officials could also face charges on Friday, lawyers said.
Indictments in the case could trigger an immediate shake-up at the White House, already on the defensive over the response to Hurricane Katrina, opposition to the Iraq war and the withdrawal of Bush's nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court, Harriet Miers.
Plame's identity was leaked to the media after her diplomat husband, Joseph Wilson, accused the Bush administration of twisting prewar intelligence to support military action against Iraq. Wilson said it was done deliberately to erode his credibility.
Libby was a key, behind-the-scenes figure in helping build the administration's case for the invasion of Iraq.
In the run-up to Friday's grand jury session, Fitzgerald conferred in secret with his legal team and with attorneys representing some of the potential defendants, including Rove's attorney, Robert Luskin.
WHITE HOUSE ANXIOUS
One lawyer involved in the case said the attorneys made final appeals to Fitzgerald to try to avoid indictment, raising the prospect of last-minute plea agreements.
When asked whether Rove was trying to negotiate Fitzgerald down to a lesser charge, Luskin responded: "False."
White House officials have been anxiously awaiting Fitzgerald's decision since any indicted officials were expected to immediately resign. Bush was then likely to make a public statement.
"He (Rove) is the president's right arm, as we all know. And the president's in a deep hole and it's very hard to climb out of a hole without your right arm," David Gergen, a former aide to presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton, told CNN's Larry King.
In a last-minute flurry of interviews, FBI agents canvassed Plame's neighborhood to see if anyone knew about her covert work for the spy agency before her cover was blown in a July 14, 2003, newspaper column by Robert Novak.
Both Libby and Rove have been advised by the prosecutor that they could be indicted, though not necessarily for knowingly revealing Plame's identity.
Legal sources said Rove could instead face perjury charges for initially failing to tell the grand jury he talked to Time magazine reporter Matt Cooper about Plame.
Lawyers said Libby was open to false statement and obstruction charges because of contradictions between his testimony and that of New York Times reporter Judith Miller and other journalists.
According to a recent New York Times report, Libby first learned about Plame in a conversation with Cheney on June 12, 2003. That account appears to be at odds with Libby's testimony to the grand jury that he first learned about the CIA officer from reporters.

WASHINGTON - Presidential confidant Karl Rove has been told he will not be indicted Friday but remains under investigation in the case over who leaked the name of covert CIA officer Valerie Plame, sources close to the inquiry told NBC News.
In addition, Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald is expected to release some documents in the case around noon ET and then hold a press conference at the Justice Department at 2 p.m. ET.
The New York Times earlier cited sources as saying that Fitzgerald was likely to extend the grand jury investigating the exposure beyond Friday, when its two-year term expires. Fitzgerald was meeting with the grand jury Friday morning.
The Times also cited lawyers involved in the case as saying they expected Cheney’s chief of staff, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, would be indicted on charges of making false statements to the grand jury.
Cheney arrived at the White House Friday at 6:25 a.m., more than an hour earlier than usual. Libby was seen leaving home about 6:15 a.m., his normal commuting time.
For now, business as usual
On Thursday, Rove attended the daily meeting of the senior staff and met with the president late in the evening, at the end of a day in which the White House dealt with the withdrawal of Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers. Libby was said to have passed up the staff meeting to attend a security briefing.
Possible charges are obstruction of justice or perjury, along with possible violations of a law barring disclosure of the identity of a covert intelligence agent.
Some lawyers have raised the specter of broader conspiracy charges as well.
When the investigation began two years ago, a White House spokesman checked with Rove and Libby, then assured the public that neither was involved in leaking Plame’s identity.
In the past month, it was revealed that Libby spoke to New York Times reporter Judith Miller, who says their conversations included Plame’s CIA status.
Rove’s legal problems stem in part from the fact that he failed initially to disclose to prosecutors a conversation in which he told Time magazine reporter Matt Cooper that Plame worked for the CIA. The president’s top political adviser says the conversation slipped his mind.
Columnist Robert Novak revealed Plame’s name and her CIA status on July 14, 2003. That was five days after Novak talked to Rove and eight days after Plame’s husband, former ambassador Joseph Wilson, published an opinion article in the Times accusing the Bush administration of twisting intelligence to exaggerate the threat posed by Iraq.
Wilson and his supporters have charged the leak of Plame’s name, which ended her ability to work undercover for the CIA, was designed to discredit him and punish him for his criticism and intimidate others inside the government critical of Bush’s Iraq policies.
Uranium yellowcake
Also in the backdrop of Fitzgerald’s investigation is a set of forged documents that stated Iraq was acquiring uranium yellowcake from the African nation of Niger. Wilson had been sent by the CIA to Africa to investigate such reports, later used by Bush to help justify the war in Iraq.
On Thursday, the White House disputed an Italian news report relating to those forgeries, which the FBI is continuing to investigate.
The news report and speculation on Internet blogs have said that National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley may have received bogus information three years ago from an Italian intelligence chief about Iraq’s nuclear ambitions.
National Security Council spokesman Frederick Jones said Hadley met briefly on Sept. 9, 2002, with Nicolo Pollari, the head of Italian military intelligence, but the subject of Iraq’s supposed uranium deal with Niger is not believed to have come up.
The meeting occurred a month before documents, later determined to be forgeries, surfaced in Italy claiming to show Saddam Hussein’s regime had an agreement to buy 500 tons of uranium from Niger. After his trip to Niger, Wilson reported he could not substantiate any uranium sales to Iraq.
The Hadley-Pollari meeting was a courtesy call that lasted fewer than 15 minutes and “no one present has any recollection of yellowcake being discussed or documents being provided,” Jones said.

Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, was indicted by federal grand jury Friday on charges related to the investigation into the leak of a CIA operative's name to the media.
Libby was indicted on one count of obstruction of justice, two counts of perjury and two counts of making false statements, court documents show.

Based on my experience with the administration in the months leading up to the war, I have little choice but to conclude that some of the intelligence related to Iraq's nuclear weapons program was twisted to exaggerate the Iraqi threat.
For 23 years, from 1976 to 1998, I was a career foreign service officer and ambassador. In 1990, as chargé d'affaires in Baghdad, I was the last American diplomat to meet with Saddam Hussein. (I was also a forceful advocate for his removal from Kuwait.) After Iraq, I was President George H. W. Bush's ambassador to Gabon and São Tomé and Príncipe; under President Bill Clinton, I helped direct Africa policy for the National Security Council.
It was my experience in Africa that led me to play a small role in the effort to verify information about Africa's suspected link to Iraq's nonconventional weapons programs. Those news stories about that unnamed former envoy who went to Niger? That's me.
In February 2002, I was informed by officials at the Central Intelligence Agency that Vice President Dick Cheney's office had questions about a particular intelligence report. While I never saw the report, I was told that it referred to a memorandum of agreement that documented the sale of uranium yellowcake — a form of lightly processed ore — by Niger to Iraq in the late 1990's. The agency officials asked if I would travel to Niger to check out the story so they could provide a response to the vice president's office.
After consulting with the State Department's African Affairs Bureau (and through it with Barbro Owens-Kirkpatrick, the United States ambassador to Niger), I agreed to make the trip. The mission I undertook was discreet but by no means secret. While the C.I.A. paid my expenses (my time was offered pro bono), I made it abundantly clear to everyone I met that I was acting on behalf of the United States government.
In late February 2002, I arrived in Niger's capital, Niamey, where I had been a diplomat in the mid-70's and visited as a National Security Council official in the late 90's. The city was much as I remembered it. Seasonal winds had clogged the air with dust and sand. Through the haze, I could see camel caravans crossing the Niger River (over the John F. Kennedy bridge), the setting sun behind them. Most people had wrapped scarves around their faces to protect against the grit, leaving only their eyes visible.
The next morning, I met with Ambassador Owens-Kirkpatrick at the embassy. For reasons that are understandable, the embassy staff has always kept a close eye on Niger's uranium business. I was not surprised, then, when the ambassador told me that she knew about the allegations of uranium sales to Iraq — and that she felt she had already debunked them in her reports to Washington. Nevertheless, she and I agreed that my time would be best spent interviewing people who had been in government when the deal supposedly took place, which was before her arrival.
I spent the next eight days drinking sweet mint tea and meeting with dozens of people: current government officials, former government officials, people associated with the country's uranium business. It did not take long to conclude that it was highly doubtful that any such transaction had ever taken place.
Given the structure of the consortiums that operated the mines, it would be exceedingly difficult for Niger to transfer uranium to Iraq. Niger's uranium business consists of two mines, Somair and Cominak, which are run by French, Spanish, Japanese, German and Nigerian interests. If the government wanted to remove uranium from a mine, it would have to notify the consortium, which in turn is strictly monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency. Moreover, because the two mines are closely regulated, quasi-governmental entities, selling uranium would require the approval of the minister of mines, the prime minister and probably the president. In short, there's simply too much oversight over too small an industry for a sale to have transpired.
(As for the actual memorandum, I never saw it. But news accounts have pointed out that the documents had glaring errors — they were signed, for example, by officials who were no longer in government — and were probably forged. And then there's the fact that Niger formally denied the charges.)
Before I left Niger, I briefed the ambassador on my findings, which were consistent with her own. I also shared my conclusions with members of her staff. In early March, I arrived in Washington and promptly provided a detailed briefing to the C.I.A. I later shared my conclusions with the State Department African Affairs Bureau. There was nothing secret or earth-shattering in my report, just as there was nothing secret about my trip.
Though I did not file a written report, there should be at least four documents in United States government archives confirming my mission. The documents should include the ambassador's report of my debriefing in Niamey, a separate report written by the embassy staff, a C.I.A. report summing up my trip, and a specific answer from the agency to the office of the vice president (this may have been delivered orally). While I have not seen any of these reports, I have spent enough time in government to know that this is standard operating procedure.
I thought the Niger matter was settled and went back to my life. (I did take part in the Iraq debate, arguing that a strict containment regime backed by the threat of force was preferable to an invasion.) In September 2002, however, Niger re-emerged. The British government published a "white paper" asserting that Saddam Hussein and his unconventional arms posed an immediate danger. As evidence, the report cited Iraq's attempts to purchase uranium from an African country.
Then, in January, President Bush, citing the British dossier, repeated the charges about Iraqi efforts to buy uranium from Africa.
The next day, I reminded a friend at the State Department of my trip and suggested that if the president had been referring to Niger, then his conclusion was not borne out by the facts as I understood them. He replied that perhaps the president was speaking about one of the other three African countries that produce uranium: Gabon, South Africa or Namibia. At the time, I accepted the explanation. I didn't know that in December, a month before the president's address, the State Department had published a fact sheet that mentioned the Niger case.
Those are the facts surrounding my efforts. The vice president's office asked a serious question. I was asked to help formulate the answer. I did so, and I have every confidence that the answer I provided was circulated to the appropriate officials within our government.
The question now is how that answer was or was not used by our political leadership. If my information was deemed inaccurate, I understand (though I would be very interested to know why). If, however, the information was ignored because it did not fit certain preconceptions about Iraq, then a legitimate argument can be made that we went to war under false pretenses. (It's worth remembering that in his March "Meet the Press" appearance, Mr. Cheney said that Saddam Hussein was "trying once again to produce nuclear weapons.") At a minimum, Congress, which authorized the use of military force at the president's behest, should want to know if the assertions about Iraq were warranted.
I was convinced before the war that the threat of weapons of mass destruction in the hands of Saddam Hussein required a vigorous and sustained international response to disarm him. Iraq possessed and had used chemical weapons; it had an active biological weapons program and quite possibly a nuclear research program — all of which were in violation of United Nations resolutions. Having encountered Mr. Hussein and his thugs in the run-up to the Persian Gulf war of 1991, I was only too aware of the dangers he posed.
But were these dangers the same ones the administration told us about? We have to find out. America's foreign policy depends on the sanctity of its information. For this reason, questioning the selective use of intelligence to justify the war in Iraq is neither idle sniping nor "revisionist history," as Mr. Bush has suggested. The act of war is the last option of a democracy, taken when there is a grave threat to our national security. More than 200 American soldiers have lost their lives in Iraq already. We have a duty to ensure that their sacrifice came for the right reasons.

Want zoals je kunt lezen in het volgende artikel van Reuters, ontkent Tareq Aziz dat hij zulke verklaringen heeft afgelegd en voegt er nog aan toe dat het gefabriceerde leugens zijn door de VS.

It said Mr Galloway's wife received about $A200,000 in connection with the allocations and the Mariam fund received at least $A595,000.
Mr Galloway himself told the committee that he was not an oil trader and had never spoken to Mr Aziz about Iraq providing financial support for the Mariam Appeal.
He has also rejected the latest US accusations that he profited from the oil-for-food program.
Mr Aref says Mr Aziz refuses to "testify against anyone, including former president Saddam Hussein", whose trial started this month but has been adjourned until November.
Mr Aziz, a Christian who was the public face of Saddam's regime abroad, was arrested after the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.
No formal charges have been brought against him yet.

Between us, Valerie and I have served the United States for nearly 43 years. I was President George H.W. Bush's acting ambassador to Iraq in the run-up to the Persian Gulf War, and I served as ambassador to two African nations for him and President Clinton. Valerie worked undercover for the CIA in several overseas assignments and in areas related to terrorism and weapons of mass destruction.
But on July 14, 2003, our lives were irrevocably changed. That was the day columnist Robert Novak identified Valerie as an operative, divulging a secret that had been known only to me, her parents and her brother.
Valerie told me later that it was like being hit in the stomach. Twenty years of service had gone down the drain. She immediately started jotting down a checklist of things she needed to do to limit the damage to people she knew and to projects she was working on. She wondered how her friends would feel when they learned that what they thought they knew about her was a lie.
It was payback — cheap political payback by the administration for an article I had written contradicting an assertion President Bush made in his 2003 State of the Union address. Payback not just to punish me but to intimidate other critics as well.
Why did I write the article? Because I believe that citizens in a democracy are responsible for what government does and says in their name. I knew that the statement in Bush's speech — that Iraq had attempted to purchase significant quantities of uranium in Africa — was not true. I knew it was false from my own investigative trip to Africa (at the request of the CIA) and from two other similar intelligence reports. And I knew that the White House knew it.
Going public was what was required to make them come clean. The day after I shared my conclusions in a New York Times opinion piece, the White House finally acknowledged that the now-infamous 16 words "did not rise to the level of inclusion in the State of the Union address."
That should have been the end. But instead, the president's men — allegedly including Libby and at least one other (known only as "Official A") — were determined to defame and discredit Valerie and me.
They used eager allies in Congress and the conservative media, beginning with Novak. Perhaps the most egregious of the attacks was New York GOP Rep. Peter King's odious suggestion that Valerie "got what she deserved."
Valerie was an innocent in this whole affair. Although there were suggestions that she was behind the decision to send me to Niger, the CIA told Newsday just a week after the Novak article appeared that "she did not recommend her husband to undertake the Niger assignment." The CIA repeated the same statement to every reporter thereafter.
The grand jury has now concluded that at least one of the president's men committed crimes. We are heartened that our system of justice is working and appreciative of the work done by our fellow citizens who devoted two years of their lives to grand jury duty.
The attacks on Valerie and me were upsetting, disruptive and vicious. They amounted to character assassination. Senior administration officials used the power of the White House to make our lives hell for the last 27 months.
But more important, they did it as part of a clear effort to cover up the lies and disinformation used to justify the invasion of Iraq. That is the ultimate crime.
The war in Iraq has claimed more than 17,000 dead and wounded American soldiers, many times more Iraqi casualties and close to $200 billion.
It has left our international reputation in tatters and our military broken. It has weakened the United States, increased hatred of us and made terrorist attacks against our interests more likely in the future.
It has been, as Gen. William Odom suggested, the greatest strategic blunder in the history of our country.
We anticipate no mea culpa from the president for what his senior aides have done to us. But he owes the nation both an explanation and an apology.

Judge assigned to Libby case has links to Republican Right. US District Judge for DC Reggie Walton has been assigned the Lewis Libby case.
It is noteworthy to point out Walton's past and current links to the Republican Right and to elements in the Bush administration who have covered up important details about 911. Walton was appointed to the DC Superior Court in 1981 by Ronald Reagan.
In 1989, he was appointed by George H. W. Bush as the deputy drug czar under Bill Bennett. Walton was reappointed to the DC Superior Court by the senior Bush. George W. Bush nominated Walton to the US District Court for DC in 2001.
Walton was the judge who, under pressure from the Justice Department, placed a gag order on former FBI translator and whistleblower Sibel Edmonds and cleared his courtroom of the public and media in Edmonds' hearing in her case against the FBI. Edmonds brought to light important information about how the FBI failed to translate important wiretap intercepts before and after 911.
