quote:Russia has destroyed more than half of the Kyiv region's pre-war warehouse capacity since its full-scale invasion began, after strikes overnight on August 5 hit 10 warehouse facilities totalling about 100,000 square metres, according to Ukrainian real estate analysts cited by Ukraine Business News.
The Kyiv region's warehouse real estate market has now lost more than 1.2mn square metres, over half of its pre-war stock, with more than 400,000 square metres destroyed since the start of July alone. That is a sharp acceleration from the roughly 500,000 square metres destroyed across the whole of Ukraine over the preceding 12 months, as IntelliNews reported in July - the Kyiv region alone has now roughly matched that nationwide total in a single month.
The attack is part of a wider Russian campaign against Ukraine's civilian logistics and retail infrastructure - after Operation Wildberries, Russia's own e-commerce warehouses came under reciprocal Ukrainian attack - and it is now large enough to move rental prices and squeeze the supply chains that keep Kyiv shops and online retailers stocked.
Despite record construction activity, new development cannot keep pace with the scale of destruction, and there is now almost no vacant warehouse space left in the Kyiv region, particularly large blocks of 10,000 square metres or more that retail chains and logistics operators depend on. The shortage is forcing companies to redesign supply chains, and analysts expect it to push warehouse rental rates up by 7-10%, raise transportation costs and eventually filter through to consumer prices.
The trend was already visible before this month: one of the region's largest hubs, the 100,200-square-metre Amtel logistics complex in Bilohorodka, was almost completely destroyed in a July 19 missile strike that wiped out inventory belonging to Goodwine, WOG, Hilti and several other companies; its owners say rebuilding could take six to ten months.

President Volodymyr Zelensky had plenty of dramatic victories and technological advances to tout to his Western backers as he made the case that Russia can be defeated. His clash with Donald Trump in the Oval Office last year had been eclipsed by more recent encounters in which the U.S. president seemed open to helping Ukraine prevail. After closed-door talks with Zelensky in Turkey last month, Trump offered to meet Kyiv’s desperate need for air defenses and told reporters during a briefing about the two leaders’ promising vibe: “There was a lot of love in that room, a lot of unity.”
In Washington, Zelensky also had a well-connected ambassador in place. Olha Stefanishyna, a former deputy prime minister, was constantly describing Ukraine’s battlefield successes to officials and lawmakers. Her goal was to move beyond those sympathetic to Kyiv’s plight to build “reliable, economic, interest-based relations across America,” she told us in an interview.
That momentum, built up since the start of the year, fizzled in a matter of days. At his meeting with Zelensky last week, Trump did not agree to send more of the Patriot air-defense systems that Ukraine needs to stop Russian ballistic missiles. He also backtracked on his pledge to let Ukrainian companies make these systems themselves. Back in Kyiv, long-festering issues related to wartime corruption weakened Zelensky’s team, leading to the ouster of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov last month and the resignation of Stefanishyna earlier this week. (She returned to Kyiv to address corruption allegations, which she denies.)

quote:**When Ukraine didn't have Patriot missiles in the winter, we at Ramstein with the NATO Secretary General approached the defense ministers of different countries and said, "Give me 2 missiles," "Give me 3 missiles," Fedorov said.
quote:Mikhail Fedorov: "In recent months, Russia has been producing more missiles per month or even per week than we receive in a month or several months. America is not keeping up with the pace of production of these missiles. There are several other sources where they can be obtained - European stocks, in fact, warehouses of European countries. But there are members of NATO and the EU, which may have 5-10 missiles in their warehouses. If it is more than 50 missiles, this is already something incredible."

At the same time, the United States used approximately 1500 of these missiles, leaving approximately 850 in reserve, or 35% of its stockpile in the region.
