Speaking aboard Air Force One while returning from his five-day combination golf holiday and tariff summit in Scotland, Trump was asked about comments he’d made over the weekend suggesting that he’d banned the pedophile power-player from his Palm Beach club for hiring away employees.

He confirmed that Epstein “took people that work for me” and did so again despite being admonished not to poach Mar-a-Lago workers by Trump.

“He took people that work for me, and I told him, don’t do it any more. And he did it. I said, stay the hell out of here,” he said.

Pressed further on whether the workers poached by Epstein included Giuffre, then a Mar-a-Lago pool locker-room attendant whose groundskeeper dad got her a job there, Trump confirmed she was among the poachings.

“I told him, I said, listen, we don’t want you taking our people, whether it was spa or not spa. I don’t want him taking people. And he was fine. And then, not too long after that, he did it again. And I said, out of here,” he said, describing Epstein as having “stolen” his spa workers.

Asked point blank if one of them was Giuffre, who died aged 41 by suicide earlier this year, he replied: “I think she worked at the spa. I think so. I think that was one of the people.”

“I don’t know. I think she worked at the spa. I think so. I think that was one of the people, yeah, he stole her,” Trump added. “And by the way, she had no complaints about us, as you know, none whatsoever.”

Maar ja, wat ik hier grappig verzin is natuurlijk niet de waarheid, dat zou wel erg bizar zijn. Het ding alleen is, op geen enkel moment heb ik gedacht dat ie aan meisjes gezeten zou hebben, maar zijn gedrag is wel zo ontzettend raar omtrent de Epstein-files dat zelfs zijn moeder zou gaan twijfelen. Op zijn minst weet hij meer, ook al gaat dat misschien om andere 'gedupeerden'.

2004: Trump and Epstein have a ‘falling out’ over a property fight

Two years after Mr. Trump called Mr. Epstein a “terrific guy,” the two men became rivals over an oceanfront Palm Beach mansion that had fallen into foreclosure. In a power struggle detailed by The Washington Post, Mr. Trump ultimately outbid Mr. Epstein for the property.

There is little public record of the two men interacting after that real estate battle. Mr. Trump would later say in 2019 that he and Mr. Epstein had a “falling out” and hadn’t spoken in 15 years; the president declared himself “not a fan” of his former friend.

Not long after the property auction, the police in Palm Beach fielded a tip that young women had been observed going in and out of Mr. Epstein’s home.

A few months later, in March 2005, the police received a more substantive complaint, from a woman who said her teenage stepdaughter had been paid by Mr. Epstein to give him a massage while she was undressed, according to a police report. That led to an investigation that later identified at least a dozen potential victims.

An F.B.I. and Florida police investigation led to his indictment in 2006. Two years later, he pleaded guilty in state court to two felony charges, including soliciting a minor, in a deal that avoided federal charges that could have meant far more serious prison time.
