On August 21, the Main Intelligence Directorate carried out drone strikes on the a signals intelligence center and the Ostafyevo airport near Moscow, as well as on the air base Millerovo in Rostov Oblast, reported the head of military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, in an interview with The War Zone.

The spy chief reported that on August 21, his department conducted several operations using drones.

Military intelligence used 50 drones to attack the signals intelligence center and the Ostafyevo airport in Moscow, as well as the air base Millerovo in Rostov Oblast, Budanov said.

He noted that DIU is currently checking data on the consequences of this operation.

On August 9, Defense Intelligence's special forces raided the occupied Kinburn spit in Mykolaiv Oblast. Intelligence reports the destruction of six units of armored vehicles of the Russian Federation and the elimination of about 30 troops.

Later, a video emerged of how in early August the Tsyklon group of the DIU legion struck the Russian military on the Kinburn spit: scouts hit equipment, observation points, and personnel from drones. The exact date of this was not revealed.

The spokesman of the Navy explained that the Kinburn Spit is important for Ukraine, as the Russians are shelling the Mykolaiv and Kherson oblasts from it, and can also attack vessels that could potentially enter Mykolaiv's seaports.

Russian prosecutors have requested prison sentences ranging from 16 to 24 years for 23 men and women accused of being members of Ukraine’s Azov Brigade, independent media outlet Mediazona reported on Wednesday.

The prosecutors requested the court in the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don hand all 23 defendants custodial sentences, including to eight women who worked as cooks and two soldiers who were exchanged for Russian prisoners in 2022 and who are being tried in absentia as a result. The case against a 24th defendant, Oleksandr Ishchenko, who died in Russian custody last month, was dropped.

All the defendants, who have served in both military and auxiliary roles for the Azov Brigade, a detachment of Ukraine’s National Guard, have been charged with attempting to seize power by force, participation in the activities of a terrorist organisation and undergoing terror training.

Some of the accused were captured during the defence of the now-occupied southern Ukrainian city of Mariupol and its Azovstal plant in the early days of the war, though many were arrested at home after being demobilised, Mediazona reported. Some of the defendants were no longer in military service at the time of the Russian invasion in February 2022 and were detained while attempting to cross into Russia from the occupied regions of Ukraine.

The case against the Azov Brigade was opened in 2022, with all 24 defendants originally being held in occupied Donetsk. The case was transferred to Russian jurisdiction and the city of Rostov-on-Don later the same year.

The video shows the damage to two Tor SAMs, the condition of which is unknown after being hit by FPV drones.

While Ukraine presses on with its incursion into Russia’s Kursk region, its troops are still losing precious ground along the country’s eastern front — a grim erosion that military commanders blame in part on poorly trained recruits drawn from a recent mobilization drive, as well as Russia’s clear superiority in ammunition and air power.

“Some people don’t want to shoot. They see the enemy in the firing position in trenches but don’t open fire. ... That is why our men are dying,” said a frustrated battalion commander in Ukraine’s 47th Brigade. “When they don’t use the weapon, they are ineffective.”

The accounts come from commanders and soldiers who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity in order to speak freely about sensitive military matters. Others spoke on the condition that they be identified only by their call signs in keeping with Ukrainian military protocol.

Commanders say the recruits have contributed to a string of territorial losses that enabled Russia’s army to advance, including near the city of Pokrovsk, a critical logistics hub. If it falls, the defeat would imperil Ukraine’s defenses and bring Russia closer to its stated aim of capturing the Donetsk region. Russian soldiers are now just 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) away.

Hundreds Joined Russian Army
They talked about the comfortable living conditions, safe work environments, and wages far higher than what they could earn back home, according to Hotnews. For many in Nepal, where economic opportunities are limited, the promise of a better life in Russia seemed too good to pass up. But the reality was far harsher than these videos suggested.

Unbeknownst to many viewers, these TikToks only showed the initial training camps where recruits spent a few weeks before being sent to the front lines in Ukraine.

Over the past two years, hundreds, possibly thousands, of Nepalese men have joined the Russian military. At least a few dozen have already been killed, leaving behind grieving families in Nepal, who had relied on them as sole providers.

Hoping for a Fresh Start
One such recruit, Bista Prakash, initially sought a fresh start in Russia after a tragic personal loss. Convinced by a cousin, Bista borrowed a large sum of money to pay an agent for a visa and airfare.

However, upon arrival, he quickly realized his tourist visa barred him from working, leaving him vulnerable and desperate. Eventually, he saw an ad for military recruitment and, lured by the promise of a high salary, enlisted.

Bista’s dreams quickly unraveled. After just three weeks of training, he was sent to the frontlines in Ukraine, where he experienced relentless violence and terror.

Wounded and disillusioned, Bista eventually escaped the war zone, but not before urging his friends back home to avoid making the same mistake.

Precision bombs are glide bombs that can be guided to their target by pilots. During the advance in the Kursk region, two important bridges over the Sejm River were destroyed by fighter planes .

Oleshchuk did not provide any information on which aircraft types Ukraine used in its attacks. According to Ukrainian military experts, the American F-16 fighter jets provided by the West have not yet been used. (dpa)

Also, Russian troops launched one missile attack in the Kharkiv direction over the day using a Kh-35 missile. They also conducted 33 kamikaze drone strikes and fired 395 times at the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

The Russian army lost 82 troops in the Kharkiv direction over the day, reported the “Kharkiv” group of forces. Also, the Ukrainian troops destroyed 81 units of weapons and military equipment in the Kharkiv direction, including seven artillery systems, 20 vehicles, six units of special equipment, and 48 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Popular pro-war Telegram channel Dva Mayora said a group of at least 20 Ukrainian soldiers had launched an attempted cross-border incursion near the village of Zabrama at around 7pm on Wednesday, but retreated after a “small arms fight” with eight border guards and 10 soldiers from Chechnya’s Akhmat special forces battalion.

Neither Moscow nor Kyiv has commented on the alleged incursion attempt.

Reports of the attempt to cross into the Bryansk region came as images emerged on Thursday morning of bomb shelters being installed in the neighbouring Kursk region, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) incursion entered its third week.

Acting Kursk Governor Alexey Smirnov published an image of a reinforced concrete shelter being delivered to the regional capital Kursk, saying that the structures would be installed at 60 bus stops across the city, as well as in the nearby cities of Zheleznogorsk and Kurchatov.

On Wednesday, Smirnov announced an initiative by Russia’s leading online marketplaces to help locals house those fleeing from districts of the Kursk region under AFU control, with popular classified ads platform Avito inviting users to indicate their willingness to host evacuees free of charge.

"The details will be revealed later. Expect good news from the 3rd Assault Brigade," the post on Telegram reads.

In the video, Ukrainian tanks can be seen advancing and firing in an undisclosed location.

Other sections show what appears to be Ukrainian troops firing into trenches and Ukrainian drones dropping bombs on Russian soldiers.

The location of the footage and when it was filmed was not been revealed, but in a later post on Telegram the brigade said it had launched a counterattack in Kharkiv Oblast and advanced almost 2 square kilometers deep into the front line area.

"The main aim of the operation was to bring down the offensive potential of the 20th Army of the Russian Federation. At the moment, this task has been accomplished," Brigade Commander Andrii Biletskyi said.
