Following his visits to Kiev and Moscow, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban sent a letter to the President of the European Council Charles Michel and the heads of EU countries, as revealed by the Current Time investigative project Sistema and European Pravda .

The letter is dated July 5. Journalists received it from one of the European officials. The authenticity of the letter, as Sistema writes, was confirmed by two more EU officials.

In the letter, Orban recounts Vladimir Putin’s position in more detail than that of Volodymyr Zelensky, and writes about Russia’s confidence that “time is not on Ukraine’s side, but on the side of Russian forces.”

According to Orban, Putin "was surprised that the Ukrainian president rejected a temporary ceasefire." Zelensky said at the time that he did not trust Russia, as it could use the ceasefire period to build up forces. Orban claims that Putin expressed the same concerns. "According to the Russian president, they are ready to consider any ceasefire proposal that does not serve as a covert redeployment and regrouping of Ukrainian forces," Sistema quotes Orban as saying.

In addition, Orban recounts Putin's position on the Istanbul agreements . According to him, the Russian president still considers the document relevant, and especially refers to the fifth point of the agreement, which envisaged assistance to Ukraine in the event of aggression by guarantor states, one of which was to be Russia. The Russian side insisted on the right to veto such assistance, the Ukrainian side did not agree with this.

Poolse luchtruim

Hoogleraar oorlogsstudies aan de Universiteit Leiden Frans Osinga legt uit dat het westerse landen 'volledig vrijstaat' om te helpen bij de verdediging van Oekraïne. "Diverse landen, waaronder de Baltische Staten en Polen maar ook Engeland, hebben gezegd misschien moeten we Oekraïne nu actiever gaan helpen met de luchtverdediging."

Enerzijds zou dit kunnen door het Poolse luchtruim actiever in te zetten om Russische aanvallen te weren, anderzijds door dat landen in het westen van Oekraïne eenheden gaan plaatsen om te helpen bij de luchtverdediging. "Oekraïne zal hierdoor in staat zijn om de schaarse middelen die ze daar hebben naar het front te brengen om daar de steden en frontlinie te gaan verdedigen", legt Osinga uit.

Het besluit van Polen om voortaan Russische raketten af te schieten als deze richting het Poolse luchtruim vliegen, staat volgens Osinga niet op zichzelf. De hoogleraar oorlogsstudies ziet dat er nu in westerse landen meer bereidheid is ontstaan om Oekraïne actiever te helpen in de oorlog met Rusland.

"Het besluit van Polen is een nieuwe steen in de diplomatieke vijver waarbij het land, samen met een paar andere landen, duidelijk een signaal wil sturen aan Poetin: 'Er zijn echt limieten aan wat wij accepteren.'"

Spiegel's sources said that Pistorius wants to use these funds to deliver more ammunition to Ukraine and possibly more Leopard tanks.

The journalists write that during a trip to Alaska, Pistorius did not want to go into details of internal negotiations with Lindner, only indirectly confirming talks about allocating additional funds.

In response to the July 8th attacks on the “Ohmatdyt” Children’s Hospital in Kyiv, we take a closer look at other times Russia has violated international humanitarian law by deliberately and indiscriminately targeting hospitals in Ukraine.

A staggering statistic from Physicians for Human Rights shows that Russia has carried out a total of 1442 attacks on health care in Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. This has meant that one in 10 hospitals in the country have been directly damaged by Russian attacks.

Attacks on healthcare are not unique to hospitals; pharmacies, ambulances and healthcare workers have also been singled out by enemy fire, as shown on this interactive map. One paramedic from Donetsk Oblast recounts an event in April 2022 when they were specifically targeted, “At first, I didn’t understand what was happening; it felt like stones were being thrown on metal; that was the sound. When the car caught fire, we realized that we were being fired at.”

Countless stories over two and half years of war have surfaced, and the evidence is overwhelming that Russia has committed war crimes in Ukraine by targeting people and facilities that help save lives. The missile strike at the “Okhmadtdyt“ Children’s Hospital in Kyiv was the latest in a string of Russian attacks against hospitals in Ukraine.

The head of the Shamilsky District of Dagestan, Magomed Gasanov, told TASS that Khandayev's body had already been flown to Makhachkala and would be buried in his native village of Genta. The cause of death was not disclosed.

For a long time, Khandayev was responsible for the construction of facilities for the needs of the Ministry of Defense and was directly subordinate to former Deputy Minister Timur Ivanov, who was arrested in April on charges of a billion-dollar bribe. From 2018 to 2022, Khandayev was the general director of the Department of the Customer of Capital Construction of the Ministry of Defense, and from June 2022, the general director of the Main Directorate of Special Construction. The deceased held the rank of state adviser of the 2nd class, as well as the rank of reserve colonel. In 2021, Ivanov personally presented Khandayev with the Order of Alexander Nevsky. The colonel also had the Order of Honor and the Order of Military Merit.
