In Nederland bestaat nog steeds een dienstplicht. Er is geen sprake van afschaffing. Er is wel een opschorting van de opkomstplicht sinds 1 mei 1997. Defensie roept daarom sinds 1 augustus 1996 geen nieuwe dienstplichtigen meer op.

The strategic missile attacks were a bit of a bust. Russia just didn't have enough Iskanders and Kalibers to do a true shock and awe, and Ukraine has had 2 months to disburse air assets AA assets and C3.
A commando raid to take a major cargo airport north of Kiev was a failure, with the loss of a battalion of air mobile troops and an unestablished number of copters. I think it was a bold move: If the runways could be secured enough to start landing transports, a full air mobile division could have been in place this morning. Unfortunately, Light forces in the area were enough to keep the LZ insecure. Notice that these weren't Ukraine's best and brightest- Just the local territorial battalion, though other forces piled on for the end game. Something everyone needs to keep in mind is that light troops aren't magic, they're LIGHT- Airborne, air mobile, marine landings, special forces raids, ect., are just a bunch of well-trained guys with assault rifles and no logistics tail. The only real advantage they have is surprise, and when that doesn't work, they are screwed. For further instruction, rent A Bridge Too Far this weekend.
Ukraine defeated the massive opening Russian artillery/rocket barrage by the simple expedient of backing up. Ukraine is big, there was no need to duke it out on the borders. Starting today but more tomorrow, Russian artillery brigades will move forward enough to establish contact and shoot their first massive barrages but 1) They won't get to all do it at once, which drops the 'shock and awe' factor down a touch and 2) reloads will have to be trucked forward.
I haven't seen a single image from the Ukraine Mechanized Brigades, their real army, except a little around Donbass where they were already engaged. Even in Chernobyl, the only real ground combat so far, the Ukraine defenders were the National Guard brigade assigned there.
It appears that Ukraine has given up a lot of yards between the 20s on purpose, with the only real fighting so far on the edges of towns and cities. Has Ukraine committed to an urban warfare model? It makes some sense. The UA was never going to win a war of maneuver against superior Russian tank forces. Artillery barrages against concrete buildings just turns apartment buildings into infantry shelter. making Russia envelope cities just creates more logistics issues and create opportunities for light forces in the field to ambush vehicles who's name doesn't start with a T. but the morale risk is enormous, and where do all the civilians go?
I don't have a handle on the air war yet. PGMs don't seem to have wiped out the Ukraine air force, but they certainly aren't flying anything east of the Dnieper. The entire AA structure seems to be laying low- Wiped out by barrage? Needed radars all offline? Holding back for better targets when the fighting gets close? Russian CAS doesn't seem to have been over plentiful or effective yet either.
There sure seem to be a lot of Ukrainians just going about their business, civilian cars passing troop convoys, traffic cameras still working, ect. No conclusion, just weird.
Reports of Turkish drones and Javelins being effective, but all anecdotal, and possibly propaganda. Keep your eyes open for better sourcing!
Expected developments today/tomorrow:
Big day for Kherson. Marine landings and a flying column from Crimea already has it surrounded. Reduced, surrendered or bypassed.
Kharkov sector should start to set. Hard points to the east like Sumy should be reduced, and a better idea of what Ukraine plans to defend should come into focus.
Donbass will continue to be a meat grinder. Mariupol may fall quickly; it isn't really built for urban warfare. Ukraine risks getting forces in the field surrounded.
Expect the Russians to explore more of the Ukraine countryside.
Odessa is safe for now, marine landing to the east notwithstanding. There's a lot of troops in Odessa. More telling will be whether Ukraine can counterattack, or if Russian air assets break up any offensive action.

Voor deze invoering heeft de overheid de Kaderwet Dienstplicht aangepast. In die wet stonden veel woorden die op mannelijke personen duidden. Bijvoorbeeld ‘hij’, ‘hem’ en ‘broederdienst’. Deze woorden zijn vervangen voor bijvoorbeeld ‘de dienstplichtige’ en ‘broeder- én zusterdienst’.
