Nou zit er voor zover ik weet ook geen organisatie met duidelijke standpunten achter al die protesten. Er slingert een allegaartje rond, van black lives matter tot mensen die alleen tegen excessief politiegeweld en het nepotisme protesteren. Dan is er ook nog de destabiliserende rellende subgroep.quote:

Dat is wel een mooi artikel, zet het wat in perspectief. Inderdaad zou meer geld uitgeven aan het oplossen van de problemen goed zijn, dan heb je minder geld nodig voor handhaven als die problemen escaleren. Oplossen aan de vookant met maatschappelijk werk in plaats van handhaven aan de achterkant, als het feitelijk te laat is.quote:

Misschien is er geen gevoel dat groter geluk geeft dan dat men voor andere mensen iets kan betekenen (Dietrich Bonhoeffer )
Overigens ben ik geen tegenstander van "aan de voorkant" dingen veranderen, zoals in dat artikel van The Guardian wordt genoemd. Dus meer besteden aan maatschappelijke zaken, huisvesting, kansen op de arbeidsmarkt, etcetera.
Maar dat hoeft niet per sé ten koste te gaan van een groot deel van het politiebudget. Of moet alles óf óf zijn in de VS? Volgens mij hoeft dat niet, toch? Er gaat nog genoeg geld naar andere zaken.

Waar het echte probleem licht is natuurlijk de staat van bepaalde buurten. Veel criminaliteit, veel drugs, slechte scholen en het belangrijkste onverantwoord gedrag. Ik blijf erbij dat er voor de mensen die in de achterbuurten zitten die voornamelijk zwart zijn er wat meer eigen verantwoordelijkheid moet zijn.
De VS is al het Westerse land bij uitstek dat zich richt op 'eigen verantwoordelijkheid' gecombineerd met snoeiharde repressie. Lees het artikel in de Guardian eens. Om de laatste paragraaf aan te halen:quote:

Maar dat probleem los je niet met repressie en meer geld pompen in bewapening van het politiekorps. Op FOK! wordt altijd lacherig gedaan over bestuurders en ambtenaren die 'thee drinken', maar in werkelijkheid werkt die aanpak wel.quote:

Op een of andere manier gaat dat bij de zwarte bevolking helaas mis. Het systeem zelf gaat niet veranderen, hoogstens zal er beleidsmatig het een en ander veranderen maar het blijft gerommel in de marge.
