Welke leugens? En excuses waarvoor precies? Bij de WHO moesten ze afgaan op de informatie die ze (op dat moment) van China kregen? Op welke informatie hadden ze dan af moeten gaan? Op die van de Amerikaanse Inlichtingendiensten die wel de juiste informatie hadden en daarom ook (intern) waarschuwden voor het gevaar van een pandemie? Dat is nl wel wat had moeten gebeuren volgens de Internationale Health Regulations, een internationale overeenkomst die de VS zelf in het leven geroepen heeft.quote:

Dan is er nog het verwijt van Trump dat de (op dat moment tijdelijke) aanbevelingen van de WHO mbt de restricties op het vliegverkeer met China levens gekost zou hebben. Een beetje vreemd verwijt wel als hij zelf verkondigt dat hij heel veel levens gered heeft met zijn (gelimiteerde) China travel ban. Het is geen verplichting van de lidstaten om zich daaraan te houden maar dan moeten ze wel wetenschappelijk aan kunnen tonen dat die WHO-aanbevelingen op handels- en reisverkeer de volksgezondheid in gevaar brengen. Heeft hij dat gedaan of was het gewoon nattevingerwerk?
Misschien moet Trump eerst eens verantwoording afleggen voor al deze zaken voor hij zijn macht misbruikt met het stoppenzetten van de financiering van een instituut dat hard nodig is tijdens een pandemie. En dat alleen maar omdat de WHO wel goed uitkomt als zondebok en afleidt van zijn eigen falen. Hij brengt daarmee de volksgezondheid juist verder in gevaar.
