Binnen strengchristelijk Amerika leven echt al serieus vraagtekens over Trump. Ze stemmen nog (deels) op hem omdat hij een strengchristelijke vice heeft en zo thema's als abortus en euthanasie (en strengchristelijke rechters) veilig bij hem zijn. Als Trump Pence dumpt en hem wisselt voor een iemand die geboren in een Sikh gezin (en ook zo getrouwd), dan zet Trump echt die stemmen op het spel. Het gaat niet om dat de Democraten de hardcore evangelicals willen paaien. Het gaat er om dat Trump ze niet moet afstoten, zelfs als ze thuis blijven zou dat een drama zijn voor Trump. Daar ging het me met name om: als Trump Pence inwisselt voor iemand die een geloof uit het Midden Oosten aan hangt (sikh, een monotheïstisch geloof wat niks met het christendom te maken heeft), neemt hij echt het risico dat hij zijn christelijke achterban verliest. Want Trump staat in die kringen ook echt niet bekend als christen.quote:

Maar als ik zo wat christelijke nieuwsbrieven zie waar ik op geabonneerd ben (ik geef toe, die zijn veel gematigder dan de echte hardcore evangelicals) was Warren daar echt een optie om over te stappen. Dan was het risico echt groter geweest voor Trump. Omdat de christenen meestal wel komen stemmen, thuis blijven zit niet echt in hun aard.
