D) The scope is just too big (the NRA, the Russian mob, the Saudis, etc.), and Mueller is hanging it up.
E) Mueller knows of threats to the US if Trump is apprehended or even impeached, so he's bailing, pretending it's done.
F) Mueller is going to give the AG an indictment for Trump, which will force everyone's hand, and Mueller can be called before Congress to testify.
G) Nothing much that we don't already know will be in the report, but there are sealed indictments waiting for Trump when he's out of office.
H) Mueller found no evidence of wrongdoing. (Just kidding, we know that's not an option.)

We krijgen weer special elections; de kiesraad van North Carolina heeft nieuwe verkiezingen voor het negende district bevolen nadat vast is gesteld dat de Republikeinse kandidaat een illegale stemronselkring had opgezet en gebruikt om te winnen.
De vorige keer ging het om enkele honderden stemmen verschil, het is dus een competitief district. En een goed test om te zien hoeveel enthousiasme er bij Dems is overgebleven na de midterms, richting 2020.

Ander voorbeeld van dat bij een proteststem ideologie eigenlijk niet meer uitmaakt is de Senaatsverkiezing in California afgelopen jaar. Twee Democraten tegen elkaar maar de meest progressieve won in de delen van de staat die normaal altijd Republikeins stemmen.quote:

Daarom denk ik dat het voor Bernie slim zou zijn als hij datzelfde gevoel als in 2016, "us versus the establishment", weer opnieuw kan opwekken en op die manier die proteststem weer trekt. Dan zie ik hem meer stemmen halen dan wanneer hij het puur op de economische boodschap gooit. Die boodschap is immers door het gros van de concurrentie al van hem overgenomen. Je ziet ook dat de DNC duidelijk hem die wind uit de zeilen wil nemen door op het overdreven af iedereen een gelijke kans te willen geven.

Mueller zal tot de conclusie zijn gekomen dat de beste manier om achter de waarheid te komen een methode toe te passen waar ze indertijd ook bij Al Capone succes mee hebben gehad; zijn belastingaangiftes, follow the money dus. Ze zullen bij de FBI wel hebben gedacht: Die gast maakt zoveel lawaai en heeft zoveel rare spastische reacties op een justitieel onderzoek, dat we beter nog even moeten gaan wroeten. The investigation began as a probe of the business dealings of Michael Cohen, Mr. Trump’s former lawyer, and has broadened to examine the Trump Organization.
Mr. Cohen on Wednesday is set to deliver public testimony for the first time before the House Oversight Committee, in which he is expected to talk about his decade of working for Mr. Trump and about the hush-money payments he arranged during the 2016 campaign to women who alleged sexual encounters with Mr. Trump. Mr. Cohen has pleaded guilty to charges including campaign-finance violations and lying to Congress, and last year he was sentenced to three years in prison.
Federal prosecutors have directly implicated the president in the payoff scheme, referring to him in court papers as “Individual-1,” alleging publicly what The Wall Street Journal previously had detailed in its reporting on those payments.
Mr. Trump has denied wrongdoing.
There is no sign Mr. Whitaker acted on any request from Mr. Trump, which the New York Times reported last week. But the House Judiciary Committee is investigating whether Mr. Whitaker may have perjured himself in his appearance before the panel earlier this month, according to one of the people familiar with the matter. Mr. Whitaker told the panel: “At no time has the White House asked for nor have I provided any promises or commitments concerning the special counsel’s investigation or any other investigation.”

Dan zal het blijkbaar op een veto van Trump uitdraaien. Met alle politieke tegenwerking die daar mee gepaard gaat. Want zowel Republikeinen als democraten zullen het er niet op aan laten komen dat Trump wederom een stok mag pakken om eventuele tegenstand mee af te slaan. Volgens mij moet hij dan een behoorlijke hobbel klimmen. De wet die het Congres in 1976 aannam om het uitroepen van noodtoestanden te reguleren. Daarin wordt de definitie van een noodtoestand geheel overgelaten aan de goede trouw van de president. Elke politicus in het congres WEET dat Trump met die veto een politiek probleem wil oplossen en geen daadwerkelijke noodzaak. President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen on Tuesday will start a three-day gauntlet of congressional appearances by giving a closed-door interview to the Senate Intelligence Committee, where he is expected to detail what he claims to know about Trump’s contacts with Russia, hush payments made prior to the 2016 election and other sensitive matters.
Cohen is also expected to provide evidence of alleged criminal conduct by Trump since he became president. In addition to his testimony, Cohen will reveal information about Trump’s financial statements, according to NBC News who cited an anonymous source.
Cohen will describe behind the scenes eyewitness and personal observation anecdotes which include lies, racism, and cheating as a private businessman when Cohen worked for him for 10 years, NBC News said.
Trump’s former lawyer plans to tell U.S. lawmakers that Trump asked him several times about a proposed skyscraper project in Moscow long after he secured the Republican presidential nomination, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Cohen’s assertion that Trump was inquiring about the project as late as June 2016, if true, would show Trump remained personally interested in a business venture in Russia well into his candidacy. Cohen, scheduled to report to prison in May, has already said he briefed Trump on the project in June 2016.
Cohen will also discuss his own motives for lying for the president, and why he decided to tell the truth publicly for fear of his family and country. He will detail how and why he made those decisions, according to NBC News.
Senators are suspicious of Cohen, who is set to serve time in prison for lying to the Committee in 2017. But they are also eager to hear what Trump’s former loyal fixer has to say.
Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr told The Associated Press that senators will have staff ask questions in Tuesday’s session but will be there to observe. He says no topics will be off limits and that Cohen “should expect to get any question from anywhere about anything.”
