Dat zou dan toch betrekking hebben op de 'individuals associated with the Trump Campaign', niet op 'other political activists'? Het lijkt me bv. sterk dat een gemiddelde Rus in Texas informatie kan inwinnen zonder dat duidelijk is dat het geen Amerikaan is, tenzij het allemaal online gebeurde, maar daar hoefden ze niet voor naar de VS te gaan natuurlijk. Prosecutors appear to be referring to a $9.5 million mortgage that Federal Savings Bank of Chicago extended in late 2016 to a Manafort-linked firm, Summerbreeze LLC.
Prosecutors’ references to “conspiracies” suggest that someone beyond Manafort was involved in the alleged fraud, but no further details were given.
Defense attorneys for Manafort did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Friday. Significantie van gisteren is volgens mij vooral dat nu redelijk onomstotelijk vaststaat dat Russische inmenging een feit is. Ik weet, het betreft een aanklacht en geen vonnis, maar de verdachten zullen toch nooit berecht worden (zitten allemaal in Rusland) en je kunt er wel vanuit gaan dat er geen gaten in het verhaal van Mueller zitten.
Nu is de vervolgvraag: was Trump of zijn campagne actief betrokken bij deze Russische acties (collusion) of heeft Trump/zijn team er slechts alles aan gedaan om het onderzoek en de waarheidsvinding naar deze gebeurtenissen te traineren (obstruction), omdat het zijn presidentsschap compleet delegitimiseerd. Dit is het stadium waarin Mueller's onderzoek momenteel zit.

De grote fout die pro-Trumpers maken is m.i. dat ze 'collusion' zien als iets dat Trump bewust als doel zou moeten hebben nagestreefd. Ook je laten gebruiken is een vorm van 'collusion'. En dat is volgens mij het meest waarschijnlijke scenario.

In a memo released Friday, Kelly outlined a series of changes to the clearance process amid the controversy surrounding former staff secretary Rob Porter, who resigned over domestic abuse allegations.
“The American people deserve a White House staff that meets the highest standards and that has been carefully vetted—especially those who work closely with the president or handle sensitive national security information,” Kelly wrote in the memo. “We should — and in the future must — do better.”
The changes include calling on the FBI to specifically brief the White House counsel on any potential concerns flagged in a background check; aiming for the FBI to bring any problematic findings to the White House within two days from discovery; limiting new interim clearances to a maximum of 270 days; and cutting off certain clearances for employees whose clearance investigations have been pending since before June 1, 2017.
That change could impact Kushner, whose clearance has been pending since he began working in the Trump White House more than a year ago.
But in a statement to the Post, Kushner’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, said Kelly’s memo “will not affect Mr. Kushner’s ability to continue to do the very important work he has been assigned by the president.”
Democrats and ethics groups have called on the White House to explain the delay in Kushner receiving his security clearance. The watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) filed a complaint Thursday calling on the White House to revoke Kushner’s clearance.
