Ja gaat echt goed met die retailers hoor!quote:In 2017, retailers in the United States announced plans to shutter close to 7,000 stores, a whopping 224 percent increase in announced store closures compared to 2016. The numbers were compiled by the think tank Fung Global Retail & Tech, which tracks store openings and closures in the U.S.
According to the numbers compiled by Fung Global, there have been 6,885 announced store closures in 2017 and 3,443 announced store openings. In 2016, there were 2,122 announced store closures in 2016 and 2,294 announced store openings.
Looking ahead to 2018, major retailers from various industries have already announced plans to close stores in the U.S. starting as early as January 2018.
Patch has compiled a list of retailers that have announced plans to close locations in 2018 below:
Sears
Sears Holdings announced in November that it would be closing another batch of stores 2018. As part of the closures, Sears said it informed associates at 45 Kmarts and 18 Sears that the stores would be closing in late January 2018. You can see a full list of the stores closing here.
Bon-Ton Stores
The Bon-Ton Stores plan to close at least 40 locations in 2018, the company announced in mid-November. The retailer has not yet announced a list of stores that will close next year. Bon-Ton operates 260 stores in 24 states under the names Bon-Ton, Bergner's, Boston Store, Carson's, Elder-Beerman, Herberger's and Younkers.
Target
Target is closing 12 stores with the last date of operation for the shuttering stores slated to be Feb.3. The Minneapolis-Star Tribune reported that the company began notifying affected store employees in November of the upcoming closures.
Macy's
Macy's is closing three of its California stores wit the closures expected to take place in early 2018. Among the affected locations are stores at Los Angeles' Westside Pavilion mall and the Laguna Hills Mall in Orange County. The third California location closing is at the Stonestown Galleria in San Francisco.
J. Crew
The speciality retailer plans to close 39 stores by the end of January 2018, CNN Money reported. That amounts to about 6 percent of its total stores and is double the number of stores it previously planned on closing.
Gap
In September, Gap announced it would be closing approximately 200 "underperforming" Gap and Banana Republic stores in the near future. The list of stores to be closed has not yet been released.
Teavana
Starbucks announced in July that it will close its close to 400 Teavana stores by next year. Starbucks said the majority of the Teavana stores will close by Spring 2018.
Walgreens
Walgreens will close about 600 drugstores as it buys 1,932 stores from its competitor Rite Aid, The Associated Press reported. A company spokesman told the AP that the majority of closures will be Rite Aid and a vast majority of stores closing will be within a mile of another store in the Walgreens network. Walgreens did not say which locations would be closed but the closures will start next spring.

Global Growth Is the Real Driver of the Supposed “Trump Effect”
“The reason our stock market is so successful is because of me,” U.S. President Donald Trump bragged to reporters last month. There is no arguing that markets have been buoyant since his election thirteen months ago: the S&P 500 index is up 28 percent. But is the president right to credit himself?
A wider and closer look at the numbers shows he is not. With the exceptions of a post-election bump, subsequently reversed, and the recent boost from Republican tax cut legislation, which the president has merely cheerled from the sidelines, the markets have done no more than reward U.S. stocks for riding the coattails of global growth. quote:All eyes have been fixed on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Trump campaign’s potential collusion with Russia, with clusters of the Resistance hanging onto the hope it will end with the president’s impeachment. But despite the parallels between Watergate and the ongoing Russia investigation, whether or not Donald Trump colluded with the Russians to help defeat Hillary Clinton does not necessarily rise to the level of a criminal conspiracy, said John Dean, former White House counsel to President Richard Nixon.
Aside from the possibility of collusion, Dean added, another important aspect of the investigation is that the president “might have obstructed justice to prevent the investigation by overreacting.”
In the case of Watergate, Dean said, “there is not a scintilla of evidence that Nixon ordered the Watergate break-in or actually knew it was going to happen. But he certainly did involve himself from the outset in the cover-up. He was knee-deep in that.”
Still, the investigation “is really just getting underway,” the former Nixon lawyer said to The Intercept’s Jeremy Scahill, comparing it the Watergate investigation, which lasted “928 days from start to finish, and obviously you have events that precede and follow both.”
Dean also commented on a separate, quieter instance of collusion with a foreign government that received relatively little attention: The Trump transition team worked with Israel essentially to undermine U.S. foreign policy, according to Trump’s former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who pleaded guilty this month to lying to the FBI.
“It certainly appears that the Logan Act, which has never been prosecuted by any prior administration against any incoming presidency, is kind of central,” Dean said.SPOILEROm spoilers te kunnen lezen moet je zijn ingelogd. Minder slecht dan het gedaan zou hebben in een Clinton regime.quote:
quote:THERE is often more fakery than truth in a tweet from President Donald Trump. But on one subject he is broadly right. America’s economy is in good shape. Business confidence is high. Jobs are plentiful. Last month non-farm companies added 228,000 workers to their payrolls. The unemployment rate is 4.1%, the lowest figure for more than a decade. The availability of jobs is drawing more of the working-age population into the labour force. Wages are growing in real terms with some of the biggest gains going to low-paid workers.
Mr Trump over-eggs things, of course. He claims each good jobs report and each new peak in the S&P 500 as his own achievement. In fact, he was lucky in his inheritance. The market has risen by 25% since his election, but is up by 195% since 2009. The unemployment rate fell from a peak of 10% to 4.7% under Barack Obama and then to 4.1% on Mr Trump’s watch. His administration says that a mix of deregulation and corporate-tax cuts will spur sustained GDP growth of 3%, well above the 2% average of recent years. As the economy approaches full employment, an astonishing pickup in productivity would be needed to accomplish that.
But Trump-bashers overstate their case, too. They dismiss the optimism of consumers and bosses as sentiment, not substance. They warn that the stockmarket is dangerously overvalued and that America’s expansion, which is in its 102nd month, must soon falter. Yet the economy is not in immediate danger. And the maturity of the business cycle cuts both ways (see article). It makes a nonsense of Mr Trump’s claims to be the author of American economic success. But the economy is also capable of some welcome surprises.SPOILEROm spoilers te kunnen lezen moet je zijn ingelogd. Je moet je daarvoor eerst gratis Registreren. De focus op werkloosheidscijfers verhult wel dat de arbeidsparticipatie sinds de crisis fors gedaald is. Estimates range from 30 percent to 50 percent to as much as 90 percent. Even the most conservative estimate says that the recession forced nearly a third of workers out of the labor force.
Many of those workers never returned even once jobs become more available. Here are the five reasons according to research.SPOILEROm spoilers te kunnen lezen moet je zijn ingelogd.
