Een uitspraak van de ADL is nieuwswaardig op zich, uitspraken van het Anne Frank Center geven vooral aan dat ze een politieke actiegroep geworden zijn sinds ze vorig jaar hun naam van AFC USA veranderden in AFC for mutual respect, kozen voor een "wider mission" ("become a national leader in exposing and fighting hate") en een nieuwe executive director aanstelden: Steven Goldstein, die eerder naam maakte als activist voor LGBT equality.quote:

Tot 11 januari was hun twitter account weinig actief, 24 tweets in vier maand (11 sept - 10 jan). Dan 31 tweets in 9 dagen, wat begon met Trump's commentaar over het gelekte "intelligence dossier" ('That's something that Nazi Germany would have done and did do' en de tweet:"Are we living in Nazi germany"). De ADL noemde het "an inappropriate comparison", het Anne Frank Center koos voor "A despicable insult to Holocaust survivors", gaf drie persconferenties en besteedde er 10 tweets aan.
Twee weken later maakt Goldstein zelf de vergelijking met nazi Duitsland ivm de Executive Order over de "muur": "Het zou onverantwoord zijn om te vergelijken met de moorden op joden", maar, "it would be equally irresponsible not to point out the similarities between demonizing and isolating groups of people within our country ... and the demonization that Jews suffered during World War II".
In totaal 156 tweets sinds de inauguratie, waarvan er vijf niet met Trump of z'n beleid te maken hebben. Voor de rest kritiek op Trump en co. (en enkele malen de GOP) of lof voor z'n tegenstanders (rechters, democraten, John McCain).

Organisaties als HRW of Amnesty International zijn beleefder in hun aanklachten tegen massamoordenaars dan de AFC wanneer ze Trump vragen de bommeldingen tegen synagoges te veroordelen.
Ze oogsten misschien een tijdelijk succes, krijgen iets meer aandacht dan de kritiek van andere Joodse groepen zou gekregen hebben. Maar ze maken het makkelijk om de kritiek als politiek gemotiveerd terzijde te schuiven, en hun uitspraken zijn koren op de molen van degenen die antisemitische conspiracy theorieën verkondigen.

Ik vraag me wel af hoe lang Trudeau dit soort dingen kan doen. Volgens mij gaat het hier overwegend over economische migranten (niet dat dit betekent dat er geen schrijnende verhalen zijn). Ik weet weinig van de financiële en politieke situatie in Canada. Het zal me alleen heel erg verbazen als bijna alle Canadezen super gastvrij zijn en graag grote aantallen immigranten opnemen. The House and the DOJ made the request in a joint motion Tuesday.
The House filed the lawsuit two years ago, arguing that the cost-sharing reductions to insurers are illegal because Congress has not provided a specific appropriation for them.
The payments go to insurance companies to reduce the out-of-pocket costs for ObamaCare enrollees.
Republicans are now considering whether they will continue the payments to keep the ObamaCare exchange markets from collapsing as they work toward repealing and replacing ObamaCare.
Insurers have threatened to leave the ObamaCare market exchanges if the payments are not continued, which could potentially leaving millions without healthcare coverage options during the transition.
Top Republicans have pushed for a continuance of the payments, including Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), chairman of the Senate's Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee.
Rep. Mark Meadows, (R-N.C.), chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, has also voiced support for continuing the payments, saying he could "swallow some short-term heartburn" for "longer-term fiscal responsibility."
The motion Tuesday grants the House and the DOJ until May 22 to file a status report with the court and establishes 90-day deadlines after that.
The House has asked for delays in the proceedings after Trump won the election in November.
