Het is lastig om uit te leggen, maar ik voel mezelf erg verbonden met Phils werk, ook bij Mount Eerie. Het heeft vooral te maken hoe hij humor en clichés afwisselt met obscure referenties (denk aan Tibetaanse filosofie of Scandinavische folklore) en zware thema's als sterfelijkheid. Het is een album van vlees en bloed, maar ook creatief sonisch landschap. Phil is een echte 'recording artist' die met tape recorders en audiomanipulatie de meest interessante geluiden creëert. Zo heb je de intens versnelde drums van Samurai Sword of de lange drones tussen de nummers door, verwijzingen naar de misthoorn die je vaak in Twin Peaks hoort. Ik ontdek elke luisterbeurt wel weer een nieuw detail dat mijn kijk op zijn muziek een beetje beïnvloedt.quote:

Ik kan je aanraden je eens in zijn werk en de lyrics te verdiepen en het album nog eens een kans te geven. Maar het kan natuurlijk ook gewoon geen plaat voor jou zijn.

Duurde hier ook even voordat ik begon te waarderen. Ik vond 'm namelijk altijd amateuristisch overkomen. Maar zo ineens viel toch het kwartje hier (volgens mij nadat ik de laatste Mount Eerie erg waardeerde). Veel ideeën erop zijn toch wel erg uniek en creatief, terwijl ze ook nog eens bijdragen om alle nummers als één geheel te laten klinken. Zit gewoon een hele vreemde, maar (inmiddels) fijne vibe op dat albumquote:Kan je mij uitleggen wat er zo goed is aan The Glow Pt II? Heb die plaat nooit echt.. begrepen ofzo. Niet dat ik hem slecht vind, maar het doet me.. weinig, denk ik? Maar ik heb altijd het idee dat ik iets mis.

Ik denk ook dat het in de toekomst alleen maar meer wordt, aangezien je nu makkelijk op youtube en spotify playlists kunt maken van losse nummers en daarmee het album min of meer genegeerd wordt. Ja, ik vind de eerste 2 duidelijk het best. Daarna is het allemaal wat anders geworden. Ik heb Midnight Boom nog wel maar die daarna niet eens meer.quote:
