Ik denk dat de Amerikanen bij deze verkiezingen niet voor 'hoop' gaan, maar voor een vertrouwd gezicht met ervaring.

Jeb gaat het doen. Die man is wel stukken slimmer dan zijn oudere broer, sowieso heel ander type. Ligt goed bij Hispanics vanwege zijn vrouw maar ook natuurlijk zijn standpunten (voor amnesty), spreekt vloeiend Spaans. Gouverneur geweest in een belangrijke swing state. Eigenlijk de droomkandidaat.
Het is alleen de vraag hoe besmet de Bush-naam is.

Een van de weinige normale intelligente gematigde Republikeinen met bovendien een bewezen trackrecord. Hoewel ik de huidige Republikeinse Partij (Tea Party
) in vele opzichten verafschuw ben ik zeer gecharmeerd van Mitt Romney. Hij is een betere kandidaat dat al die net-niet kandidaten van beide partijen die mee (gaan) doen in 2016. Ook beter dan Hillary die het vooral moet hebben van haar naam.Interessant stuk:

Elizabeth Warren gaat sowieso niet voor het presidentschap; ze weet dat ze dan minder voor elkaar kan krijgen dan nu. Ze zit er ook niet op te wachten en ze heeft aangegeven dat ze haar senaattermijn in ieder geval af wil maken.
Wat een onzin; Obama zelf heeft op meer of minder opzichtige wijze allerlei inkoppers laten liggen en slechte wetten doorgevoerd. Recentelijk nog:quote:

- Amendement van de budgetwet waarin een groot voordeel voor bepaalde banken werd toegevoegd. Warren gooide daar nog bijna roet in het eten; Obama deed NIETS.
- Uitstel van bepaalde regels voor banken; ook nu deed Obama weer niets; gelukkig waren er echt progressieve Democraten die dit wel onderuit haalden.
- "Handelsverdrag" TPP; op de een of andere manier wil Obama dit doordrukken, maar het is niet in het belang van de burger; alleen grote bedrijven, die het verdrag zelfs bepalen, worden hier blij van.
Conclusie:
Obama deugt niet.
De teaparty was op zich helemaal niet zo verkeerd initieel, maar het is jammer dat foute mensen, zoals de Koch broers, de boel grotendeels hebben overgenomen.

Weekly Standard editor William Kristol was an early booster of Palin, all the way back to 2007, when she was a new governor little known outside of Alaska. Less than a year ago, he said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that Palin “might be kind of formidable in a Republican primary.”
“Did I say it that recently?” Kristol said Wednesday when reminded of that comment in an interview. “The name Sarah Palin hasn’t come up in the past three to six months. . . . Maybe the speech Saturday was just a confirmation of her no longer being a major player, at least in these circles.”
Still others expressed concern that the GOP is damaging its own prospects by treating Palin as though she is doing more than promoting herself and her various ventures.
“Yes, Palin is still a draw. Yes, conservatives still empathize with her over the beating she took from the media in 2008,” York wrote. “But if there is indeed nothing behind her ‘seriously interested’ talk — and it appears there is not — should she be included in events leading up to the 2016 caucuses?”

Many seemed mystified by Palin’s unglued performance Saturday.
“Did the Teleprompter go down, did you have trouble with the copy, was there any moment in the speech where you had any difficulty because people had been so critical?” Fox News Channel host Sean Hannity asked her when she appeared on his program Tuesday night.
Palin shrugged it off. “I’m used to Teleprompters not working,” she added, and noted that had happened during her 2008 convention speech. She blamed the criticism on the “herd mentality” of the media.
As for her presidential ambitions, Palin said she was merely answering a question lodged by a “pesty reporter while I was promoting my Sportsman Channel show.” But she again said that she is “interested” in the possibility of a run.
Kristol noted that many conservative figures have maintained their credibility with the right even after their careers in elected office were over, including Dick Cheney and Newt Gingrich.
In the National Review, Cooke wrote that Palin had picked another path.
“Having been mercilessly and unjustly pilloried by the media throughout the 2008 campaign, Sarah Palin had a clear choice in its aftermath: She could sober up and prove the buggers wrong, or she could collapse into ignominious pasquinade,” he wrote. “Sadly, she chose the latter. The rest of us should choose to move on.”

Bush could be persuaded to stay out of the race, McCutcheon’s email asserted, if “hundreds of thousands of conservative, grassroots activists” signed petitions by Dec. 19 to be “hand delivered to Jeb Bush in a very public way” that would presumably shame him out of the race. “And after you sign the petition, please make a donation of $5, $15, $25 or more to help us get even more signatures?” the email concluded in underlined bold text embedded with a hyperlink that took readers to a petition landing page that asked for their emails and then their cash.
It was a slick and well-timed campaign, tapping into the angst of grass-roots conservatives who are as unhappy with GOP leaders like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker of the House John Boehner as they are with President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats.
And while the PAC’s treasurer told POLITICO that the email got an “extremely positive” response in petition signatures and contributions, more than one month later the Conservative Action Fund had yet to deliver any signed petitions to Bush. It did, however, send out a similar email this month urging recipients to sign a petition to “TELL MITT ROMNEY: SIT 2016 OUT” and then to make a contribution of “at least $17.76 today” to “help keep our efforts funded.”
A POLITICO analysis of reports filed with the Federal Election Commission covering the 2014 cycle found that 33 PACs that court small donors with tea party-oriented email and direct-mail appeals raised $43 million — 74 percent of which came from small donors. The PACs spent only $3 million on ads and contributions to boost the long-shot candidates often touted in the appeals, compared to $39.5 million on operating expenses, including $6 million to firms owned or managed by the operatives who run the PACs. POLITICO’s list is not all-inclusive, and some conservatives fret that it’s almost impossible to identify all the groups that are out there, let alone to rein them in.

Het zou wel gênant zijn als leden van de Bush- en Clinton-families voor de zoveelste keer de nominatie in de wacht slepen. Hoe een familie zoveel macht kan uitoefenen in zo'n groot land..
Ach, dat inteeltgevoel krijg ik wel bij meer kandidaten. Romney en Paul komen ook uit een familie van politici en presidentskandidaten. Zeker in het geval van Paul is het goed te zien dat hij gewoon een grote schare aanhangers heeft geërfd van zijn vader. Ironisch overigens dat juist Paul Bush en Clinton vervolgens aanvalt op hun familiebanden.
