Guns N' Roses To Play Carling Leeds Festival
Rock giants Guns N' Roses will take to the stage at this summer’s Carling Leeds Festival on August 23. The gig will mark the band’s first UK gig in nine years and will only include one member of the original line-up, the legendary Axl Rose.Their appearance coincides with the imminent release of a new Gunners album, 'Chinese Democracy', their first studio long-player since 1991. It has not yet been confirmed whether the ‘Roses will also play the Reading leg of the Carling weekend festivals, the full line-ups for both Leeds and Reading will emerge over the next few days so check back on mtv.co.uk for all the details.
Guns N' Roses left many rock fans disappointed last year when they cancelled their scheduled European tour for the second time, apparently due to delays on the release of the album. Recent performances took place at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Café in January this year and the Rock In Rio festival in Brazil in 2001.

NO GNR IN 2002:
Gun N Rose have been forced to issue a press release denying a new album is ready for release.
It reads:
GNR's forthcoming album, Chinese Democracy, will not see the light of day in early September, a spokesperson for the group's record company has told Launch.
The Interscope/Geffen Records representative spoke to the band's management, who replied to the unsubstantiated rumor, "Where are they getting this from?"
The report of the Labor Day release surfaced as part of the Drudge Report on Monday, June 24th.
As previously reported, Guns N Roses frontman and sole remaining original member Axl Rose is said to have recorded over 70 songs for this record with various producers. In February, he fired producer Roy Thomas Baker who had been brought in to replace Sean Beaven.
It is unsure who will have credits on this version of the record, if it actually comes out. Rose recently commented on the record saying "we're in the studio doing this album and I can promise you that we're gonna deliver and it's gonna be out of the ballpark. We've been working on this album and I can tell you we're doing our best and that's all I can promise".
Let me add my 2c worth. 70 songs???? With that amount of material, there could have been a record a year for the last 7 years. One must wonder what Axel is thinking.
When someone of Axel's mental state is left to their own devices, it is safe to say that the results may never see the light of day unless the label involved has the balls to put a deadline on things. Surely there is little hope of regaining the popularity of band's glory days after such a lengthy hiatus. Not to mention the fact there's only one original member involved. The eccentric ensemble that recorded the band's awesome debut have been replaced by a cast of studio musicians that hold little public interest.

In an interview with his official fan site, Axl Rose confirmed that Guns n' Roses' long-awaited Chinese Democracy album remains unfinished, but that he hopes to release it by the end of the year.
Rose did the interview with longtime friend and associate Del James, before the singer flew to China; Guns perform tonight in Hong Kong. In the conversation, Rose revealed that he expects to return to the States, following a brief tour of Europe and Asia, in order to finish the new album. He claimed that Chinese Democracy's tracks were picked, the sequence chosen and the artwork completed. He also called the band's current tour a warm up for a fall outing. Rose also speculated that Guns n' Roses could be on the road for the next two to three years.Gn'R's new guitarist, Richard Fortus (Love Spit Love, the Psychedelic Furs), has been recording lead and rhythm tracks, which could account for the most recent delay in the seven-year project, but Rose said that it was "time to stop that now and wrap up the baby," though he also attributed the delay to imperfections on prior projects. "I gave into a lot of pressure on Illusions both internally in Guns and externally in the press. Those albums (Use Your Illusion I and II) suffered as a consequence. It's not something I'm too excited to have to live with again."
Fortus' entry followed the departure of Paul Tobias, a boyhood friend of Rose's who was brought into the fold in the mid-Nineties, at the expense of GN'R members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. "Paul helped us a lot in the writing and the recording of this record," said Rose, "and to me was a vital part of not only the band but also my life. The world tour really wasn't his cup of tea, whereas he's much more comfortable in a studio setting. We're fortunate to have found Richard, who has this vibe kind of like Izzy (Stradlin) but with amazing feel."
From Hong Kong, the band travels to Japan, Belgium and England before heading home. A U.S. tour is being eyed for November with more dates to be scheduled abroad next year.

I may have just witnessed the best rock concert I've ever seen in my life. With little or no promotion or press buzz about the show, there were maybe at most 2,000 people in attendance. But for all those that went, I doubt anyone would forget this show anytime soon.
As with tradition, the band came on late, maybe 90 minutes after the opening band. There were actual rumours swirling down in the audience that Axl was going to pull out last minute, and I, for one, was as nervous as a train wreck. I've been waiting 15 years to see him live, and of course, his reputation preceded him. But at roughly 10pm, the lights dimmed, and the same voice recording as the Rio show started playing. Then the band got on stage and launched into the most badass version of "Welcome to the Jungle" that I've ever heard. Even though I'm a huge fan of the original band, Slash, Izzy, Duff, and even Steven Adler, I have to say this new band kicked fucking ass. Axl wore a black American football jersey and a blue bandana, and surprisingly, his voice seemed to improve with age. After "Jungle", it was straight into "It's So Easy". In fact, I'm pretty sure he played almost the entire tracklist of "Appetite For Destruction".
"Rocket Queen", "Think About You", "Mr. Brownstone", "Nighttrain", and "Out Ta Get Me" all sounded fresh and exciting. "Sweet Child O' Mine" was especially incredible, with Robin Finck handling Slash's opening riff, and Buckethead playing the same riff for the rest of the song. What was amazing was that all three guitarists were beyond capable, each of them taking turns on Slash's solos. Hate to say it, but can't say Slash was missed at all.
About half-way into the show, the incredible Buckethead did his solo. To the sound of heavy drum machine, he came out with two knumbchucks, swinging around like Bruce Lee on acid. He could actually do it! Then after throwing both knumbchucks into the audience, he went on to do some crazy breakdancing, like a serious loon. With a yellow windbreaker, white mask and KFC bucket, he was unlike anything I've ever seen. Then he strapped on his guitar and played choice selections of the "Star Wars" theme, "Pirates of the Caribbean" from Disneyland, a crazy computer-like solo that sounded like a synthesizer, then a funk jam where he was actually slapping his guitar like a bass, and various nutty solos. That might of been the virtuoso highlight of the show.
After his insane solo act, the piano was rolled out where Axl twidled the keys like a classical solo. I never knew that Axl could play! He wore the same red velvet jacket as in the video, and changed his bandana into a red one. The band launched into "November Rain", which though I never was a big fan of the song, I loved the live version. Then they played a much shortened version of "Estranged", really only the final climax of the song. Besides these two, the other songs from "Use Your Illusion" included "You Could Be Mine", "Live and Let Live". I never thought I would hear a version of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" as brilliant as their '88 show at the Ritz in New York, but the one they played tonight was just mind-blowing. The guitars were incredibly soulful and moving, and Axl's voice! Instead of the "Aye, aye, aye, aye, aye" after the title verse, he instead went into this incredibly high-key harmonizing. As a singer, I think he's unrivaled in the rock world, and as far as this 29 year-old is concerned, as pointed out by one of my friends there tonight, he may be the "last great rock star" performer. No one since has surpassed his ability and talent live on stage, in my humble opinion.
He played two new songs, the first one a slow number that he didn't introduce. Before he played the second one, he told a little anecdote why the new album is called "Chinese Democracy". He said it was because he saw a photo taken in Hong Kong, which he's using as the new album cover. And then he showed it on the video screens, and it was a black and white picture of a bicycle with a basket, and in the wall behind it, someone had grafittied "guns n roses"!!! He said "I didn't paint that myself, so one of you motherfuckers out there must have did it!" The crowd went wild, and he launched into the song. Despite what many people have reported about them taking a "techno" turn, this song was pure hard rock n' roll. Though being the first time I've heard it, I absolutely loved it!!!
About the band, new guitarist Richard was excellent, sporting a goth look that I didn't expect, hearing that he formerly played with the Psychedelic Furs. Tommy on bass provided much of the backup vocals, and the only one that looked "normal", coming onstage in sports jacket that was gone pretty early in the show. If I didn't know that the drummer was Brain of Primus fame, I would have sworn that he was Reni from the Stone Roses! He wore the exact fisherman's hat (though I have seen Beck's drummer wear the same thing), and he played just like him! Very tight and just like Steven Adler on the record, though he didn't play any solos so it was hard to gauge how good he really was. The two keyboard guys banged their heads and rocked out, though I swear to god, you could not hear them on the mix at all! Which for me was a good thing...probably the one song where you could hear them was the first slow new song, which was had a bit of synthesizer sound, and a drum machine beat for part of it (Brain just sat there not playing for that part).
The regular set ended way too early for this lifelong fan, though it was probably a good hour and 45 minutes. The last song might have been "Patience" (the only song from "Lies"), though I can't remember exactly. Another beautiful rendition, Richard and Buckethead both strapped on acoustic guitars, with Robin playing the only electric. Axl did an insane job on the whistling, and this might have been one of the best received songs of the show. The end part of the song was incredible, with the band rocking out and Axl belting out that part with such power and beauty. The crowd just went nuts, and the whole place was practically drowned by the audience singing along.
For the encore, Robin came out by himself with a sunburst Les Paul and played a very soulful, instrumental version of "Don't Cry". Hard to imagine as soulful and beautiful guitar playing from the guy from Nine Inch Nails. Then the whole band came out and played the most kickass version of "Paradise City". On the video screen, opening with a shot of the China flag, they showed shots of Hong Kong from a car and a helicopter, which were probably taken by Axl himself today or yesterday. The song was pure energy, with Axl hitting every fucking note and wail. It was also the visual highlight of the show, with flames bursting that you could literally feel the heat from, and then fireworks and red and yellow confetti streaming down from the ceiling. I was right smack center, maybe 14 rows from the front, and visually, it was as if I took acid and shrooms in a Vegas casino. Just visually fucking stunning!!!!
And then the show ended, leaving I'm sure, every fucking person in the audience blown away. We came in a big group, with hundreds of shows between us, and no one could remember a better show that they've seen. The big story of the night might have been how incredible Axl's voice was, with none of the coarseness from the "Live Era". Big, strong, high, and perfectly in key did he sing all fucking night. His outfit was leather pants and a black 99 football jersey for the first half of the show, and then a white 80 jersey later on (besides the red velvet jacket). Though the stage was relatively small, he still did his share of sprinting around, and disappeared backstage every so often for a minute or two, before coming back out. Buckethead showed why he was the man, filling in the very, very big shoes of Slash, and in his own way, probably every bit a player as Slash is. And the band was just fucking tight. All in all, it was a truly amazing fucking show, playing every good song (that at least I fucking wanted to hear). From a guy that was there, I'm telling you, Guns N' fucking Roses are back!!!!

There's only one band that could so effortlessly make underdogs of The Prodigy, and bully the promotors into jeopardising the already delicate future of a festival, so that they can perform a full set in light of technical delays. GNR play until 1am!
Despite a line-up that would rank as exceptional, without their presence (Incubus, Slipknot, Puddle of Mud, The Offspring - The Prodigy's first English appearance since 1998!), there was but one band dominating the proceedings at the first day of the Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival 2002. From the t-shirts, to the campsite stereos, to the abundance of bandanas and top hats in the crowd, to the backstage gossip to the comedy tent banter, the entire site was overshadowed by a heavy fog of anticipaction.
Indeed, this marked the first UK appearance by Guns N' Roses for nine years, and represented the unveiling of an all-new line-up. The Leeds site was packed to bursting point with people of all ages wanting to be a part of this momentous event - from the die hard nostalgia junkies to the new metal kids (who pilfered their big brothers' record collections to hear this stuff, in the same way that their big brothers nicked their dad's Led Zeppelin), to the plain curious who simply wished to see if there is life after Slash.
From the moment the band arrived, the show effectively began, as the cavalcade of no less than eight police-escorted black stretch limosines cruised onto the site, disappearing into the expansive sealed-off 'GNR only' area occupying half of the backstage compound.
Due to 'technical difficulties' they took the stage an hour and a half later than schedule, kicking off with a short film intro at 11.30pm (the normal curfew time for the event!). The set was virtually identical to that of the recent Hong Kong shows, relying heavily on material from the Appetite for Destruction, with the inclusion of 2 new songs, 'Madagascar' and 'Chinese Democracy', title track from the forthcoming album. Rose was notable for his lack of costume changes (he donned black leather trousers and an American football top throughout) and his voice which was more consistent and controlled than ever. The new band added a slick new sheen and professional tightness to the older songs.
The controversy kicked off mid-way through the set, when Rose announced, "Looks like this is going to be an interesting night. I have just been informed by Leeds city council and the promotors [Mean Fiddler] that they want me to end the show [due to the time constraints resulting from the earlier delays]. Now, I don't want to be accused of inciting a riot, but I didn't come all the way to England to be told to go home again! I've had nothing but shit from the press here. Axl this, Axl that. Anyway, if you stay here, we'll keep playing and we'll see what happens".
With the festival's future at this venue already in jeopardy, due to local campaigns that nearly prevented its licence this year, the promotors were instantly thrust into a very difficult position. In 1992, riots broke out in St. Louis (Rose was charged with incitement) and Montreal after GNR cut their sets short.
Obviously, it was decided that pulling the power just wasn't worth the risk, and Axl subsequently announced, "They're going to let us carry on. I want to thank whoever was responsible for that".
Rose reacted to a Virtual Festivals crew member's chants of "We want Slash" by quipping, "Up my arse, that's where Slash is. Fuck off, go home". The band eventually left the stage after 1am - unheard of for a British Festival.

Guns N Roses are currently on a massive North American tour, which is set to run into 2003.

Guns N' Roses have done it again. The band infamous for cancelling concerts may have put their latest outing on the rocks.
The band failed to show up at their December 6 gig - the second time to do so during this tour - in Philadelphia, which only incited minor disturbances from angry fans. Ike Richman, a spokesman for Comcast-Spectacor said that an unidentified band member was ill.
GNR then went on to cancel gigs for December 8 (the second of two scheduled Philly concerts), 9, 21, 22, 30, and 31.
At this time, there's talk the whole Chinese Democracy tour could be nixed. MTV reports that Interscope Records said the remainder of the tour, which was scheduled to run through the start of January, is completely off.
However, the tour's promoter, Clear Channel Entertainment, has yet to confirm that the entire tour has been canceled.

It was a tour that never got off on the right foot. Guns N' Roses' long-awaited return to the stage is now officially off.
Tour promoter Clear Channel Entertainment issued a statement that read: "The remainder of the Guns N' Roses concert dates promoted by Clear Channel Entertainment have been cancelled. Refunds will be available at point of purchase."
No reason for the cancellation was given, although a look at the Web nets several theories ranging from poor ticket sales to band squabbles to Axl throwing a diva-style fit.
The tour was bookended by two no-shows from Axl Rose. The first show, scheduled for Vancouver, B.C., never happened - a decision that resulted in rioting from angry fans. What was to be the first of two Philadelphia gigs on December 6 met the same end - Axl failed to show up.
The outing was scheduled to run into January.

De arrogantie die hier vanaf straalt is nog net zo groot als in de begindagen toen ze het zich wel ongestraft konden veroorloven om een paar uur te laat op een concert te verschijnen. Enige verschil is dat de meeste mensen dat nu niet meer accepteren.
Dit is een lachertje, Axl is vergeten dat ze ruim 7 jaar afwezig waren, en dat ze zichzelf niet de zelfde shit kunnen veroorloven als in 1986 t/m 1994.... (wat soms toen eigenlijk ook al niet kon, maar goed)

Ik zit er niet op te wachten eigenlijk, dit is duidelijk de winnaar van de meest overschatte band ooit-award, en van de award voor de zanger met de stem die het meest op een muppet lijkt (op de voet gevolgd door die tjap van AC/DC)
Hoe zit het nou? De hele bezetting zou toch gewoon doorgaan maar dan zonder de lead singer? Heb laatst nog een nieuw filmpje van matt, slash en die bass kerel gedownload.

..ze schijnen ook al twee tracks te gaan afleveren één voor de film The Italian Job (Pink FLoyd cover-money) die eind mei uitkomt en een andere track voor The Hulk (set me free)

Ben wel benieuwd naar de nummers, ben nogal gecharmeerd van de stem van Scott.
The Hulk komt ergens in juni uit in de VS, dan zullen we het resultaat wel horen.

Zanger Scott Weiland is sinds gisteren (5 juni) officieel voormalig bandlid van de Stone Temple Pilots en meteen de nieuwe frontman van de band met de drie overgebleven leden van Guns N' Roses. Weiland, Slash, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum en Dave Kushner gaan onder de naam 'Velvet Revolver', en niet 'Reloaded', beginnen aan de opnames van hun debuutalbum.
Hoewel al eerder bekend werd gemaakt dat Weiland de nieuwe zanger werd, werd het nu pas officieel bevestigd met een statement van de woordvoerster van de Gunners, Arlette Vereeke. 'Scott is exclusief bij ons, geen STP meer,' zo liet ze weten. Het was voorheen niet duidelijk of Weiland de Stone Temple Pilots (zie foto) had verlaten of tijdelijk aan de kant had gezet om met de Guns N' Roses mannen te werken.
De nieuwe bandleden zijn erg blij met de komst van Scott. Slash in een interview met RollingStone: 'Ik vond zijn stem in STP altijd erg mooi. Hij is een van die mannen met een donkere kant, wat natuurlijk erg goed bij ons past.
Scott is iemand waar je je mee kunt identificeren en hij heeft het in zich om een geweldige frontman te zijn. We hebben veel energie en onze eigen identiteiten. We wilden iemand die ons bij kan houden of zelfs beter is dan dat, aldus Slash.
De band is bezig met het schrijven van teksten en nieuw materiaal om vervolgens een platencontract mee binnen te halen. Eerst moet Weiland echter een noodgedwongen verblijf in een rehabilitatiecentrum afmaken, wat de zanger heeft beloofd na zijn arrestatie voor drugsbezit in Los Angeles op 18 mei jl.
Over Weiland's schijnbaar structurele drugsprobleem maken zijn nieuwe bandleden zich totaal geen zorgen. Slash: 'We zijn er allemaal doorheen moeten gaan. We vinden Scott erg tof en hij komt er zelf wel uit. We lopen al langer in de muziekbusiness rond, we maken ons geen zorgen.'
Het eerste nummer dat 'Velvet Revolver' uitbrengt, is 'Set Me Free', dat op de soundtrack van de film 'The Hulk' komt te staan. De soundtrack komt op 17 juni uit.
Onlangs maakte de nieuwe band al een cover van Pink Floyd's nummer 'Money'. Het nummer wordt gebruikt voor de soundtrack van de film 'The Italian Job'. De track komt niet op de soundtrack te staan, maar duikt misschien op het aankomende album op, dat staat gepland voor release begin 2004. Zo niet, dan wordt het mogelijk een b-kant. De film draait vanaf 30 mei in de Verenigde Staten.
'Velvet Revolver' wil in september de studio in. Voorafgaand aan de opnames gaat de band in de zomer nog toeren. De data hiervoor zijn nog niet bekend.

Eigenlijk is Guns 'N Roses al ruim 10 jaar dood.
Dat Nieuwe album zie ik niet uitkomen zolang Axl leefd.Tours worden afgelast en Axl spant voor elk dingetje een rechtzaak aan,niemand kan met hem overweg.En hij is fucked-up.
Tis belachelijk dat het nog steeds Guns N Roses heet,want alleen Axl Rose is nog origineel lid.
Hij had wel weer hele goede muziekanten verzameld voor zijn coverband, alleen jammer dat zijn stem kapot is.

Oh ja, en als Axl wel op komt dagen begint hij toch minsten 2 uur later en tegen die tijd is Velvet Revolver toch alweer klaar. Dus het is een probleem dat nooit kan gebeuren.
Het wordt dus pas een probleem als Guns N Roses 2 uur voordat VR speelt moet spelen.

GUNS N' ROSES bassist Tommy Stinson promises that the group's long-awaited new album, "Chinese Democracy", will appear before there are democratic elections in the People's Republic.
"It's really close," he tells the Toronto Sun newspaper in today's edition. "There are a few small things to finish up, and some negotiating with the record company. So I'm guessing it'll be released sometime in the New Year, and of course we'll tour the world afterwards."
Stinson says "Chinese Democracy" sounds "a little like the old GUNS, but a lot deeper lyrically. There's more introspective and socially minded stuff, and musically it takes a lot more risks than they ever took. It's going to be amazing."
With regards to how his GN'R gig compares to his previous band, THE REPLACEMENTS, Stinson told the New York Newsday, "It's more family-oriented, a lot more stable, which is a good thing, because I'd rather not work with unstable people anymore."
Asked who the "better boss" is — Axl Rose or THE REPLACEMENTS mainman Paul Westerberg, Stinson said, "Paul was really never a boss, and Axl isn't really a boss, either. He's more of a collaborator. Axl is much better to work with; he wants to include you rather than exclude you. Paul's very, 'It's mine, do it this way.' Axl wants to get the best from everyone and give credit where credit is due."
Niet. Die cd gaat volgens mij niet meer komen. Er wordt op GNR fora weer druk gespeculeerd over een November release, maar ik geloof er niet meer in. Axl is inmiddels ook alweer 43 ofzo dus die heeft ook niet meer de beste vocale kwaliteiten. Zijn stem is, ahv 2002 tournee, juist geweldig goed..net als begin '86.
In de UYI tour, en ikgeloof zelfs al in 1989 was zn stem echt slecht.
Luister maar een paar 1991 bootlegs, en dan een 1987 / 1988 bootleg.
Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat wanneer hij besluit ooit het album uit te brengen en te gaan touren, dat zn stem heel erg goed is.
Als je die hard fan bent is het tof. Maar als je het voor de kwaliteit van de muziek doet dan niet. Axl's stem is redelijk tot soms matig, Slash is ook niet mega scherp. Heb wel eens wat voorlopige versies gedownd vorig jaar ofzo, en ik vond het bagger. Heel schel onnatuurlijk gitaargeluid dat echt voor geen meter bij de muziek paste. Het lag er maar een beetje bovenop zeg maar, de zang was saai, en de nummers waren zelf ook allesbehalve spannend.

Ik verwacht serieus dat onze vriend Axl eerder de pijp uitgaat, dan dat er een nieuw album komt.
En daar heeft ons aller Axl vaak fratsen en nukjes bij. Dan zit er bijvoorbeeld een stadion vol fans, maar dan komt hij gewoon een uurtje of twee later omdat hij zo fijn basketbal aan het kijken was. Ik vind het helemaal niet belangrijk elke 2 jaar een nieuw album te hebben, maar als je eerst met veel poeha aankondigt dat het nieuwe album bijna af is en dat het helemaal te kek wordt en sowieso beter dan wat er nu ronloopt, dan moet je ook over de brug komen. Twee jaar later nog roepen dat er iets aan zit te komen is eigenlijk een beetje zielig.

A podcast containing VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash's (ex-GUNS N' ROSES) interview with Philadelphia's WMMR radio station, conducted last week, has been made available for download at GMPPodcast.com. During the interview, Slash mentions the long-awaited GUNS N' ROSES album, "Chinese Democaracy", and indicates that the CD may finally see the light of day in March. An excerpt from the chat follows:
Slash: "Axl's [Rose] got got a record coming out, GUNS, I guess you call it, I think in March. Which is sorta cool, you know it's gonna be interesting to hear it. After all this time and after all this talk what's going on with him."
DJ: So wait, "Chinese Democracy" is gonna come out?
Slash: "Yeah, it's coming out in March..."
DJ: OK.
Slash: "That's what... I've been told a lot of things over the years, but it definitely sounds like it's coming out in March."
DJ: We've been waiting forever.
Slash: "Which means VELVET REVOLVER probably in March, April, May. Will be coming out somewhere around that time. It'll be interesting."
DJ: Yeah, I was gonna say your record will probably come out first.

"People will hear music this year," says Axl Rose, puffing on a cigar in the early hours of Saturday morning at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
The notoriously reclusive rocker is of course referring to Guns n' Roses' decade-in-the-making Chinese Democracy, arguably the most anticipated album in rock & roll history. "It's a very complex record," says Rose, a surprise guest at Korn's tour announcement bash. (Others in the house: Jessica Alba, cast members of The OC, and members of Linkin Park, Good Charlotte and the Used.) "I'm trying to do something different. Some of the arrangements are kind of like Queen. Some people are going to say, 'It doesn't sound like Axl Rose, it doesn't sound like Guns n' Roses.'" He then smiles and adds, "But you'll like at least a few songs on there."
Dressed in a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey, cross hanging around his neck, cornrows still intact and sporting a blonde goatee, Rose strolled into the party around 1 a.m., just as the DJ was coincidentally rocking some vintage Gn'R. Approached by a steady stream of women and hard-rock disciples -- including Puddle of Mudd's Wes Scantlin and Papa Roach's Dave Buckner -- Rose is cordial and chatty as he poses for photo after photo. He seems more like an average guy out for a night with friends than the most mythical rock star on the planet in 2006.
And he maintains that that's exactly what he is. "The only time people ever write about me is when I go out to a strip club, because I don't chase the paparazzi down," he says. And, when he's out of the spotlight, Rose says you'll find him doing average-guy stuff: reading books and watching movies. His favorite book is Philip K. Dick's A Scanner Darkly. "I was a little scared when I saw they were making it into a movie starring Keanu [Reeves]," he says. "But I guess if he can handle The Matrix, he can do this."
While Rose and his revolving cast of Gn'R bandmates have been working on Chinese Democracy, Papa Roach have achieved platinum status in their own right. But tonight, their drummer reverts to his teenage fan days, asking Rose for a picture and to guest on Papa Roach's next album. Rose strikes a pose and then graciously refers the fellow rocker to his management.
After all, before he lends his talents to others' projects, Rose has one of his own to finish, and he says it's getting there. "We're working on thirty-two songs, and twenty-six are nearly done," he says. Of those, thirteen are slated for the final album. Among Rose's favorites are "Better," "There Was a Time" and "The Blues."
As for a reunion with his former Gn'R mates, that seems unlikely. "I haven't spoken to Slash in ten years," Rose says. "I love the guy, I always wanted everyone to know how great he was, but.... I was just talking to Izzy the other day though."
However, he hints that you could see the current incarnation of Gn'R back out on the road soon. "Every time there's a big festival announced, we get rumored to be on there," he says. "But we'll see what happens."
One thing's for sure: Everyone will be watching.

Guns 'n' Roses album 'out next month'
Slash reveals all about 'Chinese Democracy'
Guns 'n' Roses' long awaited album 'Chinese Democracy' is finally set to be released in March, according to former guitarist Slash.
The news comes just weeks after reclusive singer Axl Rose revealed that the band's first material in 10 years was nearing completion.
Speaking about the release on Christian O'Connell's Virgin breakfast show, Slash confirmed that the record is done and he said a "very official source" had already heard it.
He added: "Yeah its going to happen, I've been made aware it's been heard.
"I'm really excited, it's been a long time waiting to see what the next step around the corner was going to be for him (Axl), we know where everybody else is, but we were wondering what he was going to be doing. It's coming out in March and apparently it sounds great."
Tracks slated to appear on the 13 track album include 'Better', 'There Was A Time' and 'The Blues'.
Although Axl and Slash have not spoken in the last 10 years, the velvet revolver guitarist said he was pleased that the record is finally going to see the light of day.
He added: "I've always been supportive over that thing, even though it's been turned in to a big controversial blah blah blah thing.
"When I left I was pretty pissed off for having to leave in the first place. After a while all the boo-haha that was stirred and all the negative press, sort of went in his direction, so I'm just waiting for the record to come out, so I'm glad where it's got to the point that that's happening."

Robin's plans caught everyone in Guns, as well as our fans, a bit off-guard.
Really, Del James' private e-mail that someone took upon themselves to post publicly is the best way for us to address things at this time: "Only Robin knows what Robin's doing."
Neither we nor management, etc., know any more in this regard and we prefer not to speculate or offer opinions at this time.
Robin's Robin. We're in negotiations for the release of "Chinese Democracy" and things are going well.
When we begin to put tour plans together, we'll see where things are. Until then, Robin's touring with NIN and we're working with management on our game plans.

Zij wilden weten hoe hij aan de bestanden kwam, meldt muziekblad Rolling Stone
De blogger, Kevin Skwerl, plaatste negen tracks van het album Chinese Democracy, waar zanger Axl Rose al jaren mee bezig is. De site liep meteen vast door het hoge aantal bezoekers. De nummers werden overigens heel snel weer van het internet gehaald, nadat Skwerl een boos telefoontje van de advocaat van Rose kreeg.
'Legaal'
De blogger is niet zo bang voor juridische stappen tegen hem. "Het is een juridisch grijs gebied: de nummers konden niet gedownload worden. Ze waren ook nog niet klaar, en we weten niet van wie ze afkomen. Ik denk dat ik het wel overleef."

The album will be sold exclusively in Best Buy stores and online at Bestbuy.com and iTunes. A music video is in the works, and the band — in which Rose is the only remaining original member — is expected to tour in 2009, according to a source close to G N’ R. “The music is well worth waiting for,” says Gary Arnold, senior entertainment officer for Best Buy, which began negotiating the deal in 2007. “We’ve all heard the stories about this album, and now everybody gets to hear that it’s real.” The album’s 14 songs include the poppy “Better,” the industrial rocker “Shackler’s Revenge” (featured in the new Rock Band 2), the power ballad “If the World” (which plays in the new film Body of Lies), the anthemic title track and a song called “Scraped” that was previously unknown to fans. “It’s going to be a great rock Christmas,” Arnold says. “I just hope it doesn’t take 14 years for the next one.” Bestbuy.com has a listings page up that isn’t taking pre-orders yet but does suggest that there will be several different versions of the album available (or at least a few different covers).
