Federer has a 34-5 career record at the Australian Open in his eighth consecutive appearance. He has yet to drop a set en route to the semifinals for the second time in three years. Federer has won 24 of his last 25 matches in Melbourne since 2004, winning the title in ‘04 (d. Safin), reaching the semifinals in 2005 (l. to Safin) and picking up the title last year (d. Baghdatis).
He did not advance past the 4th RD in his first four visits (10-4 record). Federer has been broken 12 times thus far in the tournament but he’s broken his opponents 31 times.
