Electro
Genre born in the early 80's as a result of the fusion between Hip Hop, Funk, and European Electronic Pop pioneers such KRAFTWERK. AFRIKA BAMBAATAA is suposed to be the father of Electro with his classic piece "Planet Rock". Other Electro pioneers where Mantronix, ARTHUR BAKER, CYBOTRON, and Man Parrish. In the mid 90's Electro was recovered by artists like ANTHONY ROTHER, DJ Assault, Artificial Material, Dopplereffekt, and Will Web. The 21st Century has started with a new Electro wave with the works of SVEN VATH , GREEN VELVET, or Felix Dahousecat, and the birth of the Electroclash scene in New York. Other styles derivated from Electro are Electrofunk, EBM , Electro-Pop.

Electro-funk
The most funky side of Electro, which was originally created by AFRIKA BAMBAATAA in his classic piece "Planet Rock".
Some of today's Electro Funk artists are The Funk Lab, B.Nice, DJ Apple on Funklab label.
Other important Electro-Funk artists are DAFT PUNK, Divine Sounds, Jamie Jupiter, and Debbie Deb.

EBM
EBM stands for Electronic Body Music, a genre born during the mid 80's from the fusion of Electro and Industrial styles. It was originated by the work of the Belgian band FRONT 242 whom used the term for the very first time in the release of their first release -12" "Endless Riddance" - in 1983. Other important EBM artists are NITZER EBB, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, CLOCK DVA, The Klinik, and Vomito Negro.

Electropop
The Pop version of Electro, or the Electro oriented version of Synth Pop, inspired by artists such as KRAFTWERK, AFRIKA BAMBAAATAA, and GARY NUMAN. In the mid 90's Electro was recovered by artists like ANTHONY ROTHER, DJ Assault, Artificial Material, Dopplereffekt, and Will Web. The lastest face of Electro-pop in the 21st century is called Electroclash.

Electroclash
The 21st century version of Electropop with influences from other styles such as Hip Hop, Punk, and Hardcore, the name that define this mix of electro and pop was born with the celebration of the 1st Electroclash festival in New York in October 2001, organized by the Mogul Electro Records, releasing compilations with artits like Fischerpooner, Peaches, Chicks on Speed, My Adult, Detroit Grand Pubas, W.I.T., A.R.E. Weapons, Crossover, DJ Assault, and Soviet. Dee Jay Gigolos is probably the label which has most contributed to the definition of this genre, with artists such as MISS KITTIN AND THE HACKER and Zombie Nation. Ano ther representative label of the style in Europe is Kitty-Yo featuring Peaches and Gonzales. The NY Electroclash scene is located around the Berliniamsburg club which hosts regularly some of the most representative artists such as Book of Love, W.I.T., Avenue D, My Robot Friend, Hungry Wives, Morplay, Prance, Spalding Rockwell, Acrosome, Badd Inc., Misty Martinez, Bedroom Productions, Phiiliip, Xavier, and Scissor Sisters, and Djs like 2 many Djs/Soulwax, ARTHUR BAKER, Ladytron, DJ Team, Spencer Product, John Selway, Bolz Bolz, DJ Unknown, and Bill Coleman.

Techno-bass
Genre born in Detroit and Miami 1996 from the fusion of Electro and Techno bass. Labels like Direct Beat and 430 West are representatives of this genre with artists such as Aux 88, Will Web, Dopplereffekt, Wild Planet, DJ Di'jital, Adult, and Octave One.

Ghetto-tech
A version of Techno and Electro born in Detroit oriented to working class audiences characterized by a hyper-speed beat and constant sexual allusions. The most important Ghetto Tek artist is DJ Assault, with tracks like "Ass N' Teats", "Let's have sex on the beach" , "Jucy Titties". Other representative artists are DJ Godfather, and Detroit Grand Pubahs. Some lables from the Ghetto-Tek scene are Assault Rifle, and Electrofunk.

Synthpop
Synth Pop is the fusion between Electronic music and Pop that changed the music map in the late 70's and defined one of the most important scenes of the first half of the 80's. Synth Pop is characterised by mechanical rhythms from Drum Machines, and the use of synthesizers. The origins of Synth Pop are in the work of German KRAFTWERK and British CABARET VOLTAIRE. Other important influence in the Synth Pop was some of the British Glam artists like David Bowie and Roxy Music, specially in the vocals. The most important Synth Pop artists were GARY NUMAN, DEPECHE MODE, SOFT CELL, New Order, PET SHOP BOYS, Ultravox, Japan, YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA, and Visage.
