Description of the lectures

Lectures February 7, February 14 (hour 1) 2005: Decision Analysis
The first part of the lectures concentrates on quantitative methods and tools for management decision analysis in situations where uncertainty and risk are of influence. Many real-life decision problems with uncertain outcomes may be modeled as "games against nature". We'll present decision trees and decision tree modeling with help of a spreadsheet as a practical tool to analyze these situations and to develop criteria and strategies for optimal decisions under the given circumstances.

Lectures February 14 (hour 2), February 21, February 28, 2005: Game Theory
The second part considers situations in which human or institutional opponents (other persons, companies or organizations) enter the game. Although "nature" will be indifferent to the strategy a player chooses, other human players generally are not. Many decision problems in economy may be modeled as either cooperative or noncooperative games. Famous examples like the Prisoners' Dilemma and important concepts like the Nash equilibrium and the Cournot Duopoly model will be presented during these lectures. Special gaming situations like auctioning and bargaining will also be treated.

Lecture March 7, 2005: Simulation
Basing decisions purely on averages is often a risky technique, as the man would tell you (if he could) who drowned in a pool with an average depth of only 3 feet. To gain insight in the behavior of systems with stochastic elements Monte Carlo simulation may be used. During the lecture elementary techniques for sampling from probability distributions, building simulation models and analyzing simulation results will be illustrated with spreadsheet applications.

Lecture March 14, 2005: Forecasting with regression analysis and time series analysis
Functional relationships between a dependent variable and one or more independent variables may be analyzed with regression models. We shall discuss simple linear regression and the interpretation of a number of statistics used to judge the validity of the model. If the independent variable in a functional relationship is time, the measurements form a time series. We shall discuss regression analysis as a method to detect trends in time series data; in other cases extrapolation methods like exponential smoothing may be applied to forecast future developments. We shall also consider seasonal components in time series and methods to incorporate them into forecasts.

Ja, ook. Maar er zit volgens de huisarts ook een dikke ontsteking in mn keel _{groen enzo} , en middenoorontsteking. En das na de eerste kuur dus niet weggegaan. Plus dat ik inderdaad hooikoorts (verkouden enzo) heb dus dat gaat dan dubbelop. Nog een kuurtje dus maar..

Gaat wel weer over, maar ja..gaat wel vervelen zo!
