Game je op de PC of Console of toch liever mobiel of in je browser? Kom je maar niet door een level heen, of is er juist een nieuwe game aangekondigd die je vet lijkt? Hier kun je het hebben over games in de breedste zin van het woord.
Welkom in het Nintendo topic op FOK! Wat is Nintendo?
Nintendo (Japans: 任天堂 "Nintendō") is een bedrijf dat is opgericht in Kyoto, Japan door Fusajiro Yamauchi op 23 september 1889. Nintendo begon als fabrikant van handgemaakte hanafuda-kaarten, voor gebruik in een gelijknamig Japans kaartspel. In de tweede helft van de twintigste eeuw begon het bedrijf te experimenteren met andere producten, waaronder speelgoed. Via speelgoed belandde Nintendo bij computerspellen: in de jaren zeventig van de 20e eeuw begon het bedrijf met het ontwikkelen en produceren van coin-opmachines oftewel speelapparaten. In 1980 bracht Nintendo zijn eerste draagbare console uit: de Nintendo Game & Watch.
Huidige console
Sinds 3 maart 2017 is de Switch, die regiovrij is, wereldwijd te koop. In Nederland ligt de prijs op zo'n 329 euro en voor dat geld krijg je de Switch, twee Joycon-controllers, een Joycon Grip, een docking station (met adapter) en een HDMI-kabel. Er wordt geen game meegeleverd tenzij het een speciale bundel betreft (de prijs ligt dan uiteraard wat hoger). Er zijn naast de originele Switch enkele andere varianten uitgebracht: Switch lite (handheld only), Switch 2019 met krachtigere batterij, en de Switch OLED.

Okay, maar komt er nog iets nieuws aan?
Jazeker! De Nintendo Switch 2 verschijnt 5 juni. Voor een adviesprijs van 469 euro krijg je de console, en voor 509 krijg je er een digitale versie van Mario Kart World bij. De Switch 2 heeft een 7,9 inch scherm in 1080p dat maximaal 120 fps kan laten zien. Docked kan de Switch 2 tot 4K@60fps gaan op je tv. De console draait op een custom NVidia chip en ondersteunt onder andere DLSS en raytracing. Goed nieuws overigens, vrijwel alle reguliere Switch games kan je ook spelen op je Switch 2.

En welke games gaan we spelen?
Enkele games voor de Switch krijgen een upgrade (soms betaald, soms gratis) om gebruik te maken van de nieuwe functies. Denk aan Metroid Prime 4, Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, en Echoes of Wisdom.
Nieuwe games zijn er uiteraard ook. Naast het eerder genoemde Mario Kart World (launchgame) krijgen we ook Donkey Kong Bananza (17 juli), Kirby Air Riders, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, en The Duskbloods. Van niet alle games zijn al een releasedatum bekend.
Oh ja, en er zijn natuurlijk genoeg ports van third party developers van games die we eerder al op andere consoles zagen. Denk aan Cyberpunk en Elden Ring.

Cool, maar wat kosten die games?
De prijzen zijn een beetje all-over-the-place. Mario Kart World heeft een adviesprijs van maar liefst 89,95 voor de fysieke versie, terwijl de port van Bravely Default je 39,95 kost. Daarnaast zit er vaak een verschil tussen de digitale eShop-versie en de fysieke versie. Kijk zoals altijd even bij onze vrienden van Budgetgaming en je hebt games gemakkelijk wat goedkoper.
Tot slot, hoe zit het met online gaming/abonnement?
Het huidige Nintendo Switch Online blijft. Wel is het zo dat NSO + Expansion Pass wordt uitgebreid met een selectie GameCube-klassiekers. Daarnaast zijn veel Switch 2-upgrades inbegrepen bij NSO + EP. Maak zelf even de afweging of je dit de moeite waard vindt.

Tevens maakt het me niet zoveel uit hoe ze het doen, desnoods opnieuw met grafietpads, zolang ze maar serieus naar het probleem gekeken hebben. En ik neem toch aan dat ze liever niet opnieuw een rechtszaak aan hun broek willen, en al die vervangingskosten.

Hall effect helpt natuurlijk principieel maar is ook niet de enige be-all-end-all oplossing, de Gamecube controller had ook gewoon een potentiometer en drift in principe niet. Heb overigens ook weleens begrepen dat de Joycons van de laatste bouwjaren al veel minder problemen geven dan de vroege, al weet ik verder niet wat er anders aan is.

Prijzen van games inderdaad. Mario Kart World is van 85 naar 79 gegaan, heb het geld teruggekregen. Was voor de fysieke versie van Mario Kart gegaan omdat ik dus zo'n sukkel ben die te veel wil betalen voor een fysiek exemplaar.quote:

De Switch 2 kriebelt wel, ik zit er al best lang op te wachten om Zelda met 60 fps te kunnen spelen, om die reden gestopt met Tears of the Kingdom. Maar ik wacht het eerst nog even af, eerst maar zien of de launch goed gaat want ik moet steeds denken aan dat Switch 1 compilatie filmpje van Crowbcat.
