The actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Russia's Kursk Oblast are defensive, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said during a briefing, as reported by Polskie Radio.

Responding to journalists' questions about whether NATO members are concerned that weapons sent to Ukraine for defense are being used on Russian territory, he stated that Kyiv's actions are defensive.

Tusk noted that what Russian troops and Russian aviation are doing to Ukrainian territory bears signs of genocide and inhumane crimes.

"And Ukraine has every right to wage war in a way that most effectively paralyzes Russia in its aggressive intentions," the Polish Prime Minister said.

He added that the Polish side maintains constant contact with the Ukrainian side at the highest political level. He also admitted that he was not surprised by "such an unconventional and for some unexpected change in the situation at the front."

"But of course, it's not about consultations where someone in Kyiv agrees with me on which day and where someone will move," explained the head of the Polish government.

The country's Prime Minister emphasized that Warsaw's position on the war in Ukraine has not changed.

"We support Ukraine in a war that is a defensive war," he stated.

Russia arrests army staffer suspected of spying for Ukraine
The woman was in touch with Ukrainian intelligence via Signal app, Russian authorities say.

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) arrested an employee of a military unit in southern Russia for allegedly spying for Ukraine.

According to a report issued by the FSB in the Rostov region, the woman was already in contact with the Ukrainian side when she joined a unit in the Southern Military District in January 2023.

“She collected information of various kinds about the arsenals, bases and warehouses that are part of the district,” the FSB was quoted saying in the statement, Russian state news agency TASS reported Tuesday.

The arrest comes one week after Ukrainian troops launched a surprise offensive into Russian territory last Tuesday, pushing into parts of the southern Kursk region, before expanding the campaign to the neighboring Belgorod region.

According to the FSB report, the woman had contacted representatives of Ukraine’s military intelligence through the Signal messaging app, which was recently blocked in Russia for alleged “violations” of the country’s legislation.

"She handed over the collected data to a foreign intelligence service during correspondence in the messenger," the FSB statement continued.

The Russian authorities did not disclose the woman’s identity who, they say, is now being detained on charges of high treason.

On Monday, Ukraine's top commander Oleksandr Syrskyi claimed that the Kyiv's forces had gained control of 1,000 square kilometers of Russian territory, marking the biggest incursion since the start of Russian President Vladimir Putin's full-scale invasion in 2022.

On August 9, Defense Intelligence special forces raided the occupied Kinburn spit in Mykolaiv Oblast. DIU reported the destruction of six units of armored vehicles of the Russian Federation and the elimination of about 30 enemy soldiers.

Later, a video emerged of how in early August the Tsyklon group of the DIU legion struck the Russian military on the Kinburn spit: scouts hit equipment, observation points, and personnel from drones. The exact date of this is not known.

Earlier, on August 6, the special forces of the Artan active operations unit and the Maritime Center of the Ukrainian Armed Forces conducted an operation on the Tendra spit in the temporarily occupied part of Kherson Oblast.
