The European Union has provided another 4.2 billion in aid to Ukraine under the Ukraine Facility program, announced Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
Overall, the EU has provided Ukraine with more than 12 billion in budget support since the beginning of the year.
The government will use the allocated funds for social programs, humanitarian aid, and other important budget programs. Shmyhal also emphasized that Ukraine finances military expenditures only from its own resources, without using EU-provided funds.
“We continue to implement important reforms for our sustainability, development, and future. Our European partners support these efforts,” the Prime Minister added.
According to him, Ukraine expects another EU aid tranche by the end of the year.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said in Berlin during the Ukraine Recovery Conference on June 11 that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide Kharkiv with 25 million to prepare for the 2024-2025 heating season since Russia has destroyed the region’s energy infrastructure this spring.

A portion of the residents evacuated from Russia’s Kursk region amid the continuing Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) incursion into Russian territory are to be temporarily housed in Russian-occupied Ukraine, acting Kursk Governor Alexey Smirnov announced on Tuesday.
According to Smirnov, the Russian-appointed governor of southeastern Ukraine’s partially occupied Zaporizhzhia region, Yevgeny Balitsky, had himself proposed using sanatoriums and boarding houses on the region’s coastline to accommodate civilians evacuated from the Kursk region.
“The Zaporizhzhia region is one living under martial law, fighting Ukrainian Nazism every day, and has extensive experience in both military operations and volunteer work, which can be of great assistance to us.” Smirnov wrote.
Smirnov said that the first flights to the region would be arranged “in the near future”, adding that volunteer workers from Zaporizhzhia had already arrived in Kursk to assist with the evacuation.
However, some Kursk residents didn’t appear pleased with the announcement, with some leaving angry comments under Smirnov’s post on Russian social media site VK. One user noted that, given the declaration of martial law in Zaporizhzhia, “it would be more logical to evacuate people to areas beyond the Ural Mountains”.
Another wrote: “Why didn’t you deal with this in the past 2.5 years? I personally wrote to you and asked for help for Sudzha and the Sudzhansky district, where people have been shelled for the third year in a row.”
On Tuesday, Russia’s Defence Ministry reported that the Russian army had thwarted an AFU attempt to penetrate deeper into Russian territory around the villages of Kauchuk, Obshchy Kolodez, Snagost, and Alekseyevsky, all situated approximately 26–28 kilometres from the Ukrainian border in the Kursk region’s Korenevsky district.
quote:Russian media warns of F-16 strikes on Crimean Bridge amid looming Ukrainian offensive
Russian media has echoed warnings from so-called "experts" about a possible massive offensive by Ukrainian Armed Forces and F-16 jet strikes on the contentious Crimean Bridge. As usual, these "experts" place the blame squarely on Washington. Analyst Andrey Klintsevich asserted that the potential Ukrainian offensive is designed to curry favor with U.S. voters.
On Russia’s Channel One’s talk show “Big Game” the talk has turned towards even grander Ukrainian military endeavors and anticipated attacks by Western F-16 fighters on the illegal bridge in occupied Crimea.
Klintsevich is adamant that the U.S. has given Ukraine a "more global" objective.
"By late August or early September, I believe there will be an even larger-scale offensive operation from Ukraine. It could very well be in the south, as they will attempt to cut off the land corridor to Crimea," he predicted.
Klintsevich also suggested that some offensive forces might advance toward the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
"Blocking the land corridor to Crimea along with a heavy strike on the Crimean Bridge by F-16 jets would create a victory narrative that the White House could sell to voters. They will be aiming for this," the "expert" warned Russians.
He added that the purpose of advancements by Ukrainian forces into the Kursk region is to draw in some of Russia’s reserves. If this strategy succeeds, Russia would be unable to "quickly redeploy" forces to the Zaporizhzhia or Kherson areas.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that operations in Russia's Kursk region are seen as a "pivotal moment in the war with the potential to alter its trajectory."
Dmitry Likhoviy, a representative of the “Tavria” Group of Forces, disclosed that Russia is transferring units towards the Kursk direction from Transnistria. He noted that the Kursk region has "the most gaps in its defense lines."

Ukraine sentenced in absentia Kremlin propagandist and former top director at RT, Anton Krasovsky, to five years in prison for his calls to murder Ukrainian children, the Prosecutor General's Office said on Aug. 13.
The statement did not mention Krasovsky by name, but details of the case indicate that Krasovsky is the person in question.
Krasovsky was convicted for his calls to "burn and drown Ukrainian children" on air on one of his shows on the Russian state-run channel RT, formerly known as Russia Today. He also said that Ukraine "should not exist at all."
The propagandist was sentenced under the charges of public calls for genocide and calls for a violent overthrow of Ukraine's constitutional order.
The verdict comes on top of an earlier 5-year sentence issued against Krasovsky in February 2023 for supporting the Russian invasion and public calls for genocide.

quote:Ukraine controls 74 settlements in Russia's Kursk Oblast, Zelensky says
The Ukrainian military currently controls 74 settlements in Russia's Kursk Oblast, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Aug. 13.
Ukraine's cross-border incursion into neighboring Kursk Oblast began on Aug. 6, and by Aug. 12, Ukraine said it had control over 1,000 square kilometers of Russian territory.
Kursk Oblast covers just under 30,000 square kilometers, a similar size to the U.S. state of Maryland or the German state of Brandenburg.
Russia's regional authorities claimed on Aug. 12 that Ukraine is in control of 28 settlements in Kursk Oblast, and alleged that the incursion was up to 12 kilometers deep along a 40-kilometer front.
Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said on Aug. 13 that Ukraine's Armed Forces advanced 3 kilometers and took control over another 40 square kilometers of Russian territory.
Zelensky said he is "constantly in touch" with Syrskyi about the situation in Kursk.
"Despite the difficult, intense battles, the advance of our forces in Kursk Oblast continues," Zelensky said.
"Humanitarian solutions for these territories" are being established, Zelensky added.
74, dat is wel heel wat meer dan dat de Russische gouverneur aan Putin durfde te vertellen voordat hij afgekapt werd. The Russian army is moving units, in particular, from the Prydniprovskyi direction to the Kursk direction, according to the spokesperson for the Tavria operational group, Dmytro Lykhovii.
"There have been movements of enemy units, including battalions and other parts, from the Prydniprovskyi direction and not just from there to other directions, clearly including Kursk, where the Russians currently have the most gaps in their defenses," said Lykhovii.
He also noted that when there were many Russian troops in the Prydniprovskyi direction, there were fewer assault operations. However, after Russia began redeploying its forces, including to the Kursk direction, activity on the left bank of the Dnipro sharply increased.
"I think it will take a few days to understand whether this is Russian demonstrative actions - where they want to appear capable of continuing attacks despite reducing their defensive positions - or if it’s possibly some other plan," added the spokesperson.
Fighting in the Kursk region
Fighting began in the Kursk region last week. Russia claimed that Ukrainian forces allegedly breached the border.
Ukraine officially confirmed the operation by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region only today. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following the meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
According to Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, about one thousand square kilometers of the Kursk region are under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Meanwhile, according to DeepState, the Russian army has lost control of approximately 44 settlements.

The Russian KBP Instrument Design Bureau has unveiled the Kh-BPLA guided missile designed for use from unmanned aerial vehicles.
This new missile model, along with its specifications, was presented at the Army-2024 defense technology exhibition in Moscow.
Building on the technological advancements from the Kornet anti-tank missile system and the Krasnopol high-precision artillery shell, the Kh-BPLA (X-UAV) missile has been developed for deployment from UAVs against ground and surface targets.
These targets include concentrations of enemy personnel, unarmored, and lightly armored vehicles.
