After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the fighter pilot operated in eastern and southern operational zones, the report adds.

The Hero is survived by his wife and six-year-old son, the organization notes. The funeral ceremony will be held in Ivano-Frankivsk, where Andriy Tkachenko had lived with his family.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States is preparing a new military aid package for Ukraine that could be worth as much as $400 million, two U.S. officials told Reuters on Tuesday, the first such move in months as additional funds for Kyiv remain blocked by Republican leaders in Congress.

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said an announcement was expected later on Tuesday.

One of the officials said that the funding for this package is from credits refunded to the Pentagon for recent purchases.

The U.S. Army, in particular, has been making huge purchases of munitions and vehicles to replenish stocks sent to Ukraine.

The last drawdown was in December 2023 when funds to replenish stocks fell to zero.

Using the funds that have been returned to replenish stocks opens a narrow window to urgently allow more aid to be sent from existing stocks as the Biden administration waits for supplemental funding to be passed by lawmakers.

U.S. President Joe Biden, a Democrat, has backed military aid to Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, while his likely Republican opponent in the Nov. 5 U.S. election, former president Donald Trump, has a more isolationist stance.

The House is under pressure to pass a $95 billion national security package that bolsters aid for Ukraine, Israel as well as the Indo-Pacific.

That legislation cleared the Senate on a 70-29 vote, but Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson has resisted putting up the aid bill for a vote in the House.

Leaders of U.S. intelligence agencies urgently pressed members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday to approve additional military assistance for Ukraine, saying it would not only boost Kyiv as it fights Russia but discourage Chinese aggression.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Monday that the situation along the front of the country's war with Russia was the best it had been in three months, with Moscow's troops no longer advancing after their capture last month of the eastern city of Avdiivka.

Zelenskiy, in an interview with France's BFM television, said Ukraine had improved its strategic position despite shortages of weaponry, but suggested the situation could change again if new supplies were not forthcoming.

Russia's capture of Avdiivka gave the Kremlin's forces breathing room in defending the Russian-held regional centre of Donetsk, 20 kilometres (12 miles) to the east.

The international Red Cross movement is under pressure to take action against the Russian Red Cross (RRC) over close links between the group and the Kremlin’s war and propaganda machine.

The evidence includes the RRC president’s central role in a pro-Putin “patriotic” organisation, senior RRC staff who speak of the impossibility of peace with “Ukrainian Nazis”, and RRC participation in military training for children.

There are also allegations, revealed in leaked Kremlin documents obtained by the Estonian publication Delfi and shared with a consortium of outlets including the Guardian, that the Kremlin plans to replace the work of the international Red Cross on Russian-occupied territory in Ukraine by funding new, puppet Red Cross organisations.

In response to the previous publication of some of these allegations, the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) said it was “reviewing the claims closely”. It is now under pressure from donor governments to take action against the RRC.

De import van Russisch graan al dan niet via Wit-Rusland mag wel minimaal zijn. Maar elke vrachtwagen die dit de EU binnen brengt is er ��n te veel. En wanneer de import van Oekra�ens graan 100 procent stopt zullen de prijzen nog steeds niet weer naar de oude prijzen van zo'n 390/400 euro per ton schieten. Ik verwacht dat de stijging zelfs minimaal zal zijn.

Dus die zes zijn de Deense toestellen. En Nederland als aanjager van de F16 leveringen zegt alleen dat ze geleverd worden op het moment dat Oekra�ne klaar is om ze te ontvangen. Maar dat zegt helemaal niets. Het lijkt me ten eerste sterk dat Nederland Denemarken met de eer van de eerste toestellen leveren laat strijken. En ten tweede is "klaar om ze te ontvangen" een ontzettend rekbaar begrip. Misschien kunnen die toestellen nu beter worden gebruikt voor training van techneuten. Ik dacht dat juist het aantal piloten de bottleneck zou zijn. Maar 6 F-16s op 12 piloten is wel heel karig. Ze hebben de aankomende juli bijna een jaar gehad om alles gereed te krijgen. Zoals de training van het grondpersoneel/technici, het gereed maken van de juiste infrastructuur en ook het gereed maken van de F-16s zelf.

Laten we dus hopen dat het er meer zullen zijn.

Russian opposition activist Leonid Volkov, who is the former chief of staff of the late Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny, was attacked Tuesday outside his house in Vilnius, Lithuania, according to Navalny’s spokesperson Kira Yarmysh.

“Leonid Volkov has just been attacked outside his house. Someone broke a car window and sprayed tear gas in his eyes, after which the attacker started hitting Leonid with a hammer,” Yarmysh said in a social media post.

“Leonid is now at home, police and ambulance are on their way to him.”

Ivan Zhdanov, the director of Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation, also said on Tuesday that Volkov was attacked “near the house” and “they hit his legs with a hammer and hit his arms.”

The attack comes days before Russia’s presidential election, seen as a constitutional box-ticking exercise where President Vladimir Putin is all but certain to win a fifth term.

Volkov, who had served as chairman of Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation until 2023, dismissed the elections in February as a “circus,” saying on social media they were meant to signal Putin’s overwhelming mass support.

“You need to understand what the March ‘elections’ mean for Putin. They are a propaganda effort to spread hopelessness” among the electorate, Volkov said.

Navalny, who was the most prominent anti-Putin voice in Russia, died last month in a Russian prison, sparking condemnation from world leaders and accusations from his aides that he had been murdered. The Kremlin has denied any involvement in his death.

Details: "The pro-Kremlin Georgian authorities are putting forward some demands for the extradition of our citizens in order to 'normalise relations'," Arakhamiia said.

He added that for true "normalisation", Georgia must release Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili from prison and return him to Ukraine; stop direct flights with Russia; and stop helping Russia evade sanctions.

"Then the normalisation of relations will be simple," Arakhamiia concluded.

The Georgian government said on Monday that the Ukrainian authorities should extradite "criminals who currently hold high positions in their administration" to Georgia in order to "normalise relations".

Among them, the Georgians mentioned Zurab Adeishvili, the former Georgian justice minister who is now Ukraine's Deputy Prosecutor General, and Giorgi Lortkipanidze, whom Tbilisi accuses of involvement in Mikheil Saakashvili's illegal crossing of the state border.

The Georgian authorities have repeatedly tried to put Adeishvili on the international wanted list. Recently, they were outraged by his presence in the German Bundestag as part of a delegation from Ukraine.

Earlier, the speaker of the Georgian Parliament demanded an apology from Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his Moldovan counterpart Maia Sandu for "lying" about Saakashvili.
