Mostly because Russia is famous for making a huge deal over their latest weapons. But when it comes to actually deploying them, there are always issues.
So, where are Russia’s new wonder weapons?
Su-57 “stealth aircraft” - Not ready.
K-14 Armata tank - Not ready.
Let’s start with the Su-57
Only 14 have been made, 10 prototypes, 4 production models. But even the production models are still undergoing testing. For the most part, the Su-57 is so expensive to build, Russia cannot afford to make it in significant numbers. They are looking for foreign buyers to help with the costs of development. India has already backed out, and Russian hasn’t found anyone else to fill the void.
Then there’s the K-14 Armata.
Supposedly a revolution in tanks design, we haven’t seen much of it except in parades. In one instance, the transmission broke during the parade, and it had to be towed away.
Russia planned to buy 2,300 between 2015 and 2020. But money was tight in Russia (as usual) and the whole production run cancelled. Later, this changed and 100 were expected to be delivered for state trials in…wait for it…2022. So, not even deployed in 2022, just ready for trials.

Al kan je de anwoorden op Quora niet altijd betrouwen, zag deze week nog een compleet fout antwoord (over het verschil tussen zand in woestijnen en op stranden, volgens een geoloog op quora waren zandkorrels in de woestijn ruwer, onregelmatig. Ze zijn net "smoother", waardoor ze ongeschikt zijn voor beton (omdat cement er minder goed aan hecht))

I fear that Russia has already won the war in Ukraine.
The bitter truth is that Putin has achieved almost all of his political objectives in Ukraine and then some. And may I remind you once again of that Clausewitzian edict that holds to this day, that all war is but a means to political ends.
So let’s stack up what political ends Russia has either already achieved or is about to achieve. Here is a map of how things stood at the end of yesterday.
• Crimea is irretrievably lost to Russia by Ukraine.
The Donetsk and Luhansk provinces stand on the verge of being captured (not just the separatist regions which were already occupied but the entire provinces)
• Both provinces will be irretrievably lost to two new puppet regimes installed by Moscow much like Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the case of Russia’s invasion of Georgia in 2008.
Worst of all, the Russian Army with the aid of its navy have systematically captured territory in south, creating a land bridge between Donbas and Crimea. That land bridge will ironically enable Russia to continually fuel a violent insurgency in those two provinces against Kyiv, if the latter doesn’t cede them outright. And then Russia achieved some more territory in the South. Only Mariupol holds out on the southeast but is completely surrounded and is being starved and shelled, and once the key port of Odessa in the southwest falls?
• Ukraine will be landlocked. She is doomed after that, given that her navy was already destroyed completely in the invasion of 2014, after many of her naval officers and commanders defected to Russia. Now I hope I don’t need to explain the economic and geopolitical plight of a nation that both has no access to the sea and is also surrounded in the North, East and South by a very hostile and large military power. Russia can pretty much choke and kill any Ukrainian economic or political aspirations whenever she pleases by simply blockading the Black Sea.
• There is zero prospect of whatever rump state of West Ukraine remains of ever joining NATO.
• Ukraine is well on its way to being bombed back to the Stone Age and will take decades to recover, it will not pose a threat anymore as a model of a prosperous democracy in Putin’s lifetime and may not ever do so even in our own lifetimes. It is about as wicked of a crime as one can imagine, but it is what has largely happened.

Ukraine will take decades to recover? Als die bij de EU komen (en buiten Nato blijven) wordt er zoveel geld ingepompt dat het over 10-15 jaar een moderne welvarende staat is. Geen gedoe met vergunning voor het slopen van gebouwen, alles is al kapot, dus er kan snel gebouwd worden.quote:
