Dit is niet zo zeer te wijten aan bananenrepubliekgedrag, maar eerder aan het tweepartij systeem in de VS. Als er normale dialogen mogelijk zou zijn tussen de twee partijen dan was dit niet gebeurd. De republikeinse partij is in zichzelf gekeerd, bokkig en wantrouwen alles buiten hun eigen cirkel gebeurt. Voor het zelfde had Biden full socialistisch samen met Bernie Sanders en AOC kunnen gaan. En op het moment zouden ze er niks aan kunnen doen. Maar Biden doet dit niet, en de munitie die ze nog steeds op hem afvuren wordt steeds zwakker. Dit heeft te maken met het gevoel dat ze een potentiele grote leider hebben verloren. Dat zie je hier ook met partijen die jarenlang kunnen teren op rancune nadat Fortuyn was vermoord terwijl diezelfde partijen niks hebben begrepen of gemeen hebben van diezelfde man. Trump weerspiegelt in niets waar de old school GOP voor staat, en dat weten ze, maar ze hebben al decennia geen volksmenner gehad die het volk zo kan opkloppen als deze flessentrekker. Ze nemen zijn fouten en megalomanie voor lief omdat ze alleen nog maar saaie ouwe grijze mannetjes en slaafse vrouwtjes beschikbaar hebben die de kar kunnen trekken. Stemmen voor een toekomstig keizerrijk met een heerscher die al tientallen jaren probeert om zich volledig onschendbaar uit te roepen als een hedendaagse Ceaușescu.quote:

Ik moest aan de Roemeense heerser denken toen ik destijds Trumps smoelwerk zag bij de lachsalvo's die hij genereerde bij de Verenigde Naties, nadat hij de verzamelde dames en heren aldaar verzekerde dat zijn regering de beste regering was die de wereld zo'n beetje gekend heeft. "It's true!" zei hij ook nog eens, toen er wat werd gegrinnikt. Nog meer gelach was het gevolg. "Well, I didn't expect that..." zei Trump, enigszins verbaasd grijnzend. Hoewel in een totaal andere setting, was het voor mij een beetje Ceaușescu-revisited.
