Ik ben het er mee eens dat we nu eindelijk eens over de brug moeten komen met 2 procent van het BNP naar defensie conform NAVO-afspraken.
Dat gezegd hebbende, Trump staat weer eens onzin uit te kramen dat Europa de NAVO geld schuldig is. Landen worden aangemoedigd om 2 tot 3 procent bij te dragen, maar het is geen verplichting. Je kan simpelweg geen schuld hebben bij de NAVO, omdat de organisatie niet zo werkt.

Trump denkt nog steeds dat internationale politiek hetzelfde werkt als het New Yorkse vastgoedwereldje. Je kunt andere internationale leiders niet pesten om van ze gedaan te krijgen wat je wilt. Trump heeft tijdens zijn speech zijn collega's weggezet als klaplopers. Alsof ze hem iets verschuldigd zijn. Dezelfde mensen die hij al eerder zeer publiekelijk heeft afgevallen, zoals Merkel en Macron. Op die manier boek je geen resultaten.
