The Last Ship to End After Season 5

The Last Ship is being permanently docked. The TNT drama will conclude at the end of its upcoming fifth season, our sister site Deadline reports.

Rumors of The Last Ship‘s demise first began circulating back in Sept. 2017, when cast member Travis Van Winkle, who plays Danny Green, announced “a series wrap” in an Instagram post that was later deleted. In response, TNT released a statement, which read, “We shot two seasons simultaneously; the fourth is currently on the air and the fifth will return next summer. We greenlit the fifth with the idea that it could be the final season, however it’s far too early to make that determination.” But now it’s official.

A premiere date for Season 5 has not yet been announced.

Code Black Cancelled at CBS

Code Black has officially flatlined: CBS has cancelled the medical drama (and its last remaining bubble series) after three seasons. Showrunner Michael Seitzman broke the news early Thursday on Twitter.

Dear #CodeBlack fans, the sad news came today that we were cancelled. It's been a true joy to make this show and watch your response every week. Thank you for all of your passion. Truly, our best episodes have yet to air. We hope you'll watch and enjoy them. We made them for you.

The series — which explored what happens when Angels Memorial Hospital hits “code black,” a situation in which the influx of patients is so great that there aren’t enough resources to treat them — underwent a slew of cast changes since its 2015 debut. Original stars Bonnie Somerville (Dr. Christa Lorenson) and Raza Jaffrey (Dr. Neal Hudson) were let go after the freshman run, with Rob Lowe coming on as the male lead opposite Marcia Gay Harden in Season 2. The current third season saw the exit of Melanie Chandra’s resident Dr. Malaya Pineda and the addition of Falling Skies vet Moon Bloodgood as a series regular.

Season 3, which premiered in late April, is currently airing Wednesdays at 10/9c.

The Expanse Rescued by Amazon, Renewed for Season 4

The Expanse is getting a second chance at life at Amazon.

The streaming service has picked up a fourth season of the recently cancelled Syfy drama, our sister site Variety reports. The announcement was made by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos at the National Space Society’s International Space Development Conference in Los Angeles on Friday night.

Syfy’s decision to end The Expanse was primarily ratings-driven (early data for Season 3 shows its numbers trending downward vs. Season 2). The network only had first-run linear rights to air the show in the United States, meaning it didn’t get to cash in on digital/streaming rights. At the time of its cancellation, production company Alcon Television Group announced it would try to find the series a new home. Amazon was always seen as the most likely destination, which currently retains the streaming rights for Seasons 1 and 2.

“We couldn’t be more excited that The Expanse is going to continue on Amazon Prime,” Alcon Entertainment CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson said in a statement. “We are deeply grateful that Jeff Bezos, Jen Salke, and their team at Amazon have shown such faith in our show. We also want to thank Laura Lancaster, head of Alcon Television for her tireless efforts. We are fully aware that this wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the staggering outpouring of support from the most creative, hardest working sci-fi fans around the world. The Expanse is currently midway through its third season, and will conclude its run on Syfy in early July.

People of Earth Cancelled at TBS, Reversing Season 3 Renewal

TBS won’t be returning to Beacon, New York after all.

The basic cabler is reversing its Season 3 renewal of People of Earth, cancelling the alien abduction comedy after two seasons, TVLine has confirmed. The announcement was first made by creator David Jenkins on Friday:

Just got word last night: TBS has cancelled People of Earth. Thank you to everyone who was a fan of the show and enjoyed its gentle, amiable sci-fi weirdness. It was an honor sharing this show with you. Let's do it again soon. Love you all.

Season three, which is already written, will not be shot. Season two is the last season.

People of Earth — one of TVLine’s Peak TV Treasures — starred Daily Show alum Wyatt Cenac as Ozzie Graham, a journalist investigating a support group for alien abductees. The cast also included Ana Gasteyer (Suburgatory), Oscar Nuñez (The Office), Michael Cassidy (Men at Work), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Selfie), Brian Huskey (Veep) and Tracee Chimo (Orange Is the New Black). Greg Daniels (The Office) and Conan O’Brien served as executive producers.

A network opting to cancel a series months after renewing it is not unprecedented. HBO infamously renewed rock-and-roll drama Vinyl for a second season just days after its low-rated Feb. 2016 launch, only to reverse course just three months later. And last year, Amazon cancelled the Zelda Fitzgerald drama Z: The Beginning of Everything, after having already spent $7 million on preproduction for Season 2.

Big Bang Theory to End With Season 12, Producers Promise 'Epic' Series Finale

It all ended with a big bang, too: The Big Bang Theory will conclude its decade-plus run following the completion of its forthcoming 12th season, CBS announced Wednesday.

In a joint statement, Warner Bros. Television, CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions said, “We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.”

Pondering the hitcom’s fate back in January, Johnny Galecki said, “The only manner in which the cast has discussed wrapping [The Big Bang Theory] has been that we’re all going to be very sad when that day comes. But I think at this point everyone’s very comfortable with 12 seasons being a good time to go home and see our families.”

The final season of The Big Bang Theory will bow Monday, September 24 (8/7c) before moving to its regular time period on Thursday, September 27 (8/7c).

The series, which debuted in 2007, has received 52 Emmy nominations and 10 wins to date. When it airs its final episode in May 2019, Big Bang will end as the longest-running multi-camera series in television history, with a record-breaking 279 episodes.
